  1. Prayer here as we continue to prepare for son’s memorial service. It seems to be coming together as a clear Gospel outreach. May ears to the heart be open to hear the Truth. We expect many believers and unbelievers to be there, though I may not be as I do have a dad to care for. He may or may not care to attend. That remains to be seen.

  2. Ongoing prayer for my friend K who is overwhelmed with trying to take care of her husband who’s had a big downturn mentally in the past few weeks and is now falling frequently; he seems to be getting worse.

Dr. saw him Friday and I’m so surprised he didn’t admit him somewhere, he only set up an MRI for a week from now leaving it to his family to try to get him into the car (with much resistance) again. (Early MD thoughts involve a stroke and/or Parkinson’s.)

Friend put in a hard weekend and is frantically trying to find a care facility as this is beyond her physical abilities (and her brother’s who lives with them). “Home care isn’t working,” she told me.

  3. Prayers for them, Dj. Maybe talk to county senior services to find out options? If hospitalized they would have access to the hospital social services staff. That was where we first got a list of invested people who were offering sitter services, expensive for 24 hour care, but much less than professional nurse service. We had pretty good fortune in the people we hired for Art’s parents.

Prayers for them. Been there, done that. So difficult.

  4. mumsee, she and her brother cannot get him up off the floor other than with multiple tries between the two of them. It’s too much.

If nothing else, they need some breathing room — with him being taken care of by others somewhere even just temporarily — so they can figure this out.

I’m almost tempted to tell them to get him into ER where they’d at least provide some serious medical attention and treatment — and then likely admit him.

They can figure out the details from there. Telling the family to go home and then go somewhere on April 8 for an MRI when he’s in this bad a shape was not helpful.

  5. After he fell from sleeping on the couch over the weekend, they finally managed to get him back up onto the sofa and then had to move a coffee table and some other things up next to it to try to keep him from rolling off again.

He needs 24-hour watching right now; he keeps getting up repeatedly (and then falling to the floor). He has a walker now but he holds it way out in front of him, so then he falls again. 😦 He’s wandering around at night.

Thank you for your prayers, the family is really going through a lot — and so suddenly.

  6. (Meanwhile their young (30s) son-in-law goes in April 1 for an MRI, he also has been falling and has been tentatively diagnosed with some serious neuropathy in both legs, but the cause remains unclear.)

  7. So many challenges. Are they believers?

We thought bed rails would be helpful but were told they were not allowed. Too many patients falling to the floor from the top of the rails. Fortunately, we have not needed that as dad has not been falling but he he has for the most part stopped eating so not surprising if it starts soon. He just wanders around at night while we all sleep.

Praying for your friend, so much on her plate and so unexpectedly. Did the husband and son in law work on some project together, getting into chemicals or inhaling fumes that might have hit them both so close together?

  8. No projects they worked on — they don’t live close and son-in-law teaches full time, he and his wife (also a teacher & K’s youngest daughter) just had their first baby 6 months ago.

K’s husband does freelance/volunteer work helping design websites for groups like the Sierra Club and other outdoor preservation organizations, he’s tall & lanky and has been an avid hiker and camper.

Ideally they could keep him at home, but right now it appears they at least would need some in-home help with that (they are set up to have someone come give showers, it became too dangers for K and brother to try to get him out of a shower without his falling and hitting things; he did fall again in the bathroom in the past 24 hours but hit his shoulder, not his head).

  9. Family is Catholic, K is devout (and a believer), the others have drifted for the most part; husband would still attend Mass with her at times, they met in a Catholic youth group for older singles.
