another beautiful day here. Daughter is feeding and watering chickens and cats. Son is shoveling the deck so grandpa can walk while son is gone to GED.
It’s a beautiful day here, too, Mumsee. We are up to a sunny 29° and will go up a few more degrees before going down. The weather report predicted it will feel like 8° tonight with the wind chill effect.
You are raising some very thoughtful young people, Mumsee. What valuable life lessons they learn under your guidance.
Janice, grandpa and grandson have an interesting relationship. Few people can understand son when he speaks, but grandpa can, when he can hear him. Grandson helps grandpa by putting on his sweatshirt and coat and gloves and hat, then helps him out the door and they go for their rounds on the deck. Grandpa likes to go five laps. They chatter and laugh the whole time, and on warmer days, sit together on the bench and talk about the view or cats or whatever. Son is very attentive.
We, in our society, don’t typically foster relationships between the generations. There is definitely something lost when that happens.
Even at church, as our Sunday school class began to grow, they split off a group of the younger people to have their own group. It felt like a loss to me.
60 degrees here and supposed to get up to 63. So nice to see the sunshine. I just ordered a solar generator that will power my fridge. I have a gas stove and a propane wood heater so should be okay.
Waiting for my friend to call if she needs to pick up her car today. And then need to schedule the work for the woodpecker damage and to add things to keep them away. My house may be paid off but I’m learning about all of the things that need doing.
Although he can be annoying at times, I am very grateful for the close relationship I have with Boy, and that we are a part of each other’s daily lives.
I’m also grateful for the close relationship that my girls had with my parents, who did a lot of things with and for them.
My paternal grandparents had died before I was born, and my maternal grandmother died when I was four. My maternal grandfather lived until I was 14, but we had moved away from Connecticut when I was five, so I rarely saw him. It always made me sad that I did not have grandparents around while growing up.
That’s why I was so blessed to see the close relationship between my daughters and my parents, and now to have the blessing of this relationship with my grandson.
As for my mother-in-law, we would see her about once a month, and she and the girls loved each other, but there was not the same kind of closeness in the relationship, Part of that, of course, was due to living in separate states (until we had to move her here to take care of her) and only seeing her for one weekend a month (and sometimes having to skip a month). But part of it, too, was that Mary had a negative and critical streak that was difficult to deal with.

That is so heart-warming, Mumsee.
