Specifically, Elon tweeted his agreement with two big changes —a salary cap and a pay-to-play fee— and called the H1-B system “broken” and needing major reform:
He did not surrender, exactly, so much as prove his bona fides by cutting the heart out of all the good-faith complaints. After days of argument, the anti-visa grievances boiled down to two issues: H1-B overuse, by hiring unskilled H1-B workers like cashiers and dishwashers, and unfairly underpaying aliens, thereby displacing qualified Americans with cheaper foreign talent.
Many years ago a company with whom my husband was employed, decided to hire an Indian CEO. He decided to employ his fellow Indians bringing them over from India. His bright idea? I am pretty sure someone did mention it at one point, but it never hurts to bring it up again. He was certainly blessed with a long life, but no matter how old, we miss those we love when they pass even when we realize how much better off they are. Prayers that the good part of his legacy is carried on by others.
As far as teacher tests and certifications they don’t always make for good teachers. For example, someone going in to teach music does not need to know all the math or science etc. He or she does need to be knowledgeable in the field. Schools do need to be held accountable if teachers are put into teaching classes for which they are not educated to teach. That happened even when I was in high school, and I am in my seventieth decade of life.
Schools also need to be on top of what is going on in the classroom and get rid of teachers who are inferior. There has to be checks and balances, but the unions can’t be allowed to force bad or inferior teachers be kept on staff.
Some states have allowed non-certified teachers for decades now. Some are experts on what they are teaching and have retired from the military etc. Even experts can be lousy teachers, though, as I can well attest to.
The biggest problem in my state is the poor and/or disgusting standards put into place by those who want to propagandize our children.

And see, Kathaleena, I was thinking for some reason that you were already past seventy! That’s not meant as an insult, as I don’t think aging is a bad thing. (And people may assume I’m past sixty, but I’m still in my sixth decade and won’t hit 60 for a few more years, but I had older parents and my oldest siblings are more than ten years older than me, so I’ve always been a bit “old” for my age.)
Oh, I am past seventy and no, I wouldn’t take it as an insult. I mostly hang around with people older than me. I see some amazing, competent, talented and serving people in their nineties and even into their 100’s. It boggles my mind when I think about possibly living that long, though.
We will be covered up with news about Carter in Atlanta. We visited the Carter center many times when son was younger. I loved the Japanese garden on the grounds.
I overheard someone at church this past year say they were going to Plains to visit Carter. He has had many ties with Atlanta folks. A lady in my former church was a tour guide at the Center, and a neighbor two doors from us years ago clipped articles about Carter for the library. His son used to be our representative.
Yes, Kathaleena, thanks for the Cal Thomas piece–he’s always worth reading.
FYI, if you’re past 70, you’re actually in your eighth decade (like this is the twenty-first century and not the twentieth, and an infant is in her first year of life before she turns one and not afterward).
I realized this morning that my mom would be turning 100 this year. (She didn’t even make it to 80.)
“Law enforcement sources have CONFIRMED Matt Livelsberger, 37, of Colorado Springs, was the Trump Las Vegas Cybertruck Bomber, per NewsNation
Livelsberger, who kiIIed himself in the blast, was still an ACTIVE DUTY Green Beret operations sergeant who was on leave from Germany, where he was serving with 10th SFG, per multiple US officials.
Authorities are continuing to investigate a link between Livelsberger and the New Orleans attacker, as they both served at the SAME base, Fort Bragg, and both rented EVs from Turo.
“The suspects in yesterday’s attacks on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and Trump Tower in Las Vegas both served at Fort Bragg, the same military base Ryan Routh visited over 100 times before attempting to take Donald Trump’s life.”
“Like you, I’m thrilled that instead of going after ISIS cells roving freely in the United States, every single person in the DOJ was instead MANIACALLY OBSESSED with going after pro-lifers, Catholics, parents, Trump, and Trump supporters. Excellent decisions, leaders.”
This is Manhattan tonight, chanting “globalize the intifada!” – hours after we all got see what globalizing the intifada looks like in New Orleans and likely Las Vegas.
“Same as the Mar A Lago would be assassin, and he also went to Fort Bragg a lotSomeone in Fort Bragg was both these guys handler and they have a vested interest in not ending the Ukraine war”
Well, folks, it finally happened. Liz Cheney, the self-proclaimed savior of democracy and queen of political backstabbing, just received the Presidential Citizens Medal. Yes, you read that right. The woman who lost her primary by a mile and is now more popular with MSNBC producers than her own constituents is being hailed as a national hero. And by who? None other than Joe Biden, the man who spends more time lost on stage than he does in reality.
Let’s be clear: This award is supposed to recognize actual service to the country. You know, the kind of service that involves putting your life on the line, not your ego. Cheney’s “service” apparently consisted of trashing Trump, cozying up to Democrats, and spearheading a partisan committee that pretended to be objective while hunting for ways to blame everything—including bad weather—on Trump. What a legacy.
What NJ said. She needs to be investigated and charged for her crimes, the rest of this farce committee as well. They tampered with witnesses, destroyed evidence, hid exculpatory evidence from defendants, suborned perjury, and made a mockery of justice.
“Joe Biden just awarded Liz Cheney America’s second highest civilian honor for criminally weaponizing a congressional committee to put innocent Trump supporters in jail and failing to stop him from becoming President again.”
“A group of conservatives and potential opposition votes against Speaker Mike Johnson are circulating a document laying out a “scorecard” that lists multiple failures of the 118th Congress.
While the author remains unnamed, it hits the talking points being shared by Johnson’s critics ahead of the Jan. 3 vote: How Rs have repeatedly added to the nation’s debt, passed aid to Ukraine without the support of the majority of the GOP majority, and reauthorized FISA. In particular, they took issue with how the latest government spending bill was handled ahead of the Christmas Holiday.”
In following this current Speaker’s vote, it’s clear that Congress hasn’t been following the mandate that the American people called for. Not a good sign for Speaker Johnson – how many ballots will it take?
Merchan…that judge whose daughter worked for Kamala. He says Trump can show up virtually and he won’t be sentenced to jail but he is bent on sentencing the “convicted” scallawag before he is sworn in. I hope he enjoys his 15 minutes of historical fame…not really!
Before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House he will return to the courthouse, a New York judge ruled Friday.
Justice Juan Merchan will sentence Trump for his crimes on Jan. 10 — just 10 days before his inauguration on Jan. 20 — in a court proceeding that will be unlike any in America’s 248 years. Trump’s conviction in New York stemmed from a $130,000 so-called “hush money” payment his then-attorney, Michael Cohen, made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the days before the 2016 election.
Biden, with about two weeks left, is trolling us. NBC ran a truly horrible story yesterday headlined, “Hillary Clinton, George Soros and others to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom.” Ugh, now I don’t want one. But the most common reaction to the news on the far-left platform BlueSky was “MAGA heads are going to explode.” In other words, even they can see how annoying and ugly it is.
Couple others would include Denzel Washington (I like him), Bill Nye, that “science guy”, Jane Goodall….
NYP writer can detect “rage” in the written words of Trump. And Trump didn’t even use exclamation marks!!!
President-elect Trump raged Saturday against the Manhattan judge who oversaw his criminal trial, calling the jurist “corrupt” in a Truth Social post.
“I never falsified business records. It is a fake, made up charge by a corrupt judge who is just doing the work of the Biden/Harris Injustice Department, an attack on their political opponent,” Trump began in a post first targeting Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan.
“A legal expense was called, on the books, a legal expense. There was nothing else it could have been called. This was the so-called falsifying of records. I was hiding nothing, everything was out in the open for all to see.”
lol. Apparently, not only can ‘rage’ be detected in Trump’s words, but a couple of weeks ago I heard a preacher on the radio proclaim what was “in Putin’s heart”. All this “discernment” is reassuring, no? Well we can hope and pray for better things.
Re the Speaker of the House, he does seem to give good speeches. We’ll have to see how he acts. It’s always possible we are expecting too much from Trump’s second term. Compromise does seem to be the word of the day. And as much as I don’t like to lose momentum on the MAGA agenda, I find that I really can’t blame Trump for trying his best not to be impeached again, and his enemies would likely find a way to do that if he doesn’t make some compromises. So I do look for serious compromise in the future.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom has become a joke, like the Pulitzers and the Nobel Prizes.
Here’s why. This is who he’s rewarding, the Dem money man who laundering cash thru 100s of non profits into the hands of corrupt democrats. He’s also behind the soft on crime policies which just rack up more victims as they release repeat criminals to prey on the public.
