  1. Good morning! The temp was 37° this morning and got into the 20s in the mountains north of us. Still thankful that the furnace works.

I finished the biography of Paul by N T Wright. I never found anything controversial in it. I think it was his other book that had people stirred up. Thankful I chose to listen to the book and review what I have been learning in various studies.

Kathaleena, the muffin recipe would be good for plain lemon muffins with the blueberries left out. Also would be good with a substitution of mini chocolate chips for blueberries.

  2. Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here, with rain, of course. Seems it nearly always rains or snows when my brother is here. But he leaves tomorrow so should clear up.

  3. Good clarification harkening back to our recent discussions about God’s sovereignty and the balance (His sovereignty, our responsibility) of that doctrine (via Challies):

    • The Bible teaches both God’s sovereignty and human responsibility. They are both true. We are told that God is the King of everything, and there are many commands that we are expected to follow as God’s children. I do understand that we would like to understand how both of these things can be true, but we can never fully do that. What we don’t want to do is only read the bits of the Bible on one side and ignore the other side. We don’t want to fail to do what God clearly calls us to – like prayer and evangelism – because we hold to something else the Bible also teaches.
    • Consider that God’s purposes in the world, one of the ways He expresses his control, is through the actions of His people. God doesn’t usually zap people to make them Christian, for example. He uses the gospel which is shared from a Christian to someone who is not yet Christian. So if we think that we should sit back and wait for God to save people, we are not doing what we are called to do.
    • God, the great King, is kind to use even people like us in His work. Let’s do it with enthusiasm and joy, trusting in His control and work even as we do this.

  4. We’re getting the cooler fall weather now, after having record/near record temps last week (~90!).

Mrs L and I tried to see the comet last night, but there were clouds on the horizon, We missed it earlier because we forgot about it. She was disappointed, but I reminded her that we’ll see God’s glory for eternity which is far more wonderful than any comet.

  5. I went for a walk, a little over a mile. It was chilly but not breezy so really perfect with a jacket/hoodie on. Funny thing is that I went in the opposite direction on my street and saw no Halloween decor and maybe two political signs, one national and the other for a local race. I think it is all people without children in that direction. The other direction is closer to the school so more Halloween decor.

My friend shared that today she saw the worst skeletons ever. One was painted red and was sitting between two white ones. They were life-size. It does sound pretty awful.

  6. I was able to catch the comet with my phone camera. I did not see it with my naked eye. I think if I had waited another 5 or 10 minutes I might have gotten a better picture.

My husband came out and we walked down the road a bit to catch the pictures with the comet in them. The moon was beautiful, and it was a breezy, but relatively warm out.

  7. Went out again, clouds had cleared. Brother’s camera caught it and I could see it through the monocular. After locating it, it was visible with naked eyes.
