  1. RK, I also buy when items, like butter, are on sale. Living in the country has always meant buying to have items available, too, since running into town for every little thing is a waste of time and money. We run much more now, though, than I did years ago. Neither of us are big shoppers anyway, though.

  2. Good morning! Isn’t it lovely to see the changes of the season? I am enjoying it much more with the heat on in the house!

Record numbers went to the polls for the first day of early voting in Georgia. People who are disabled or over age 75 get to go to the front of the line. I am thinking that means there will be two lines. Also thinking we need to carry chairs.

  3. I don’t like the idea of early voting as there is more chance of cheating. However, I think it’s time to change election day to a Saturday instead of Tuesday. I read that Tuesday was chosen for farmers to be able to vote, as it took all day to take the horse and wagon into town and back. For some it meant an overnight stay, so Saturday or Monday were out, since everyone when to Church on Sunday back then, and Saturday was market day. But now that everyone can get to the polling place by car, Tuesday makes less sense.

  4. Sabbath observant Jews and Christians could not vote on Saturday. I kind of like voting early as long as the location is a well secured voting place. But I don’t think mail in ballots are a good idea. Early voting starts today in TN and we’re planning to vote tomorrow or Friday.

  5. Military has had mail in voting a long time. Makes sense if you are off defending your country, you have some say in its running.

i don’t know if I ever knew if Greece had any mail in voting. The people all had to return to the town of their birth to vote and it was something like a three or four day event. Mandatory voting.

  6. We have long had absentee mail in voting. What is happening today is quite different. I do not like the long voting time. There has also been a law about getting time off to vote, if necessary, I think. Perhaps having a voting holiday would work for most people. Some jobs require people to work anyway. Maybe staggered time would work for them. I agree that a Sabbath day would not be a good answer.

We only voted absentee once and one of the candidates died suddenly before the election. Perhaps a very shortened early voting would help. Things happen and more so the longer the voting time.

We never have long lines, however, so we don’t need to deal with that. The wife of a candidate, who votes in our precinct, voted early and had a FB post to demonstrate for those who need to do so.

  7. Finally got a text from granddaughter last night after 10. She left with all her things the night before without a sound. I did not ask her to leave. I think she left rather than us having to communicate. Nice to have the house to myself.

In other news: I am sitting here listening to raindrops on the skylight!!! Thanking God for every raindrop. The next two days will be north wind events and very dangerous with our dry conditions.

  8. I’m sorry, Jo.

My intention was to stop by the courthouse to pay my taxes and then vote on my way home this morning. I managed to get out a littlearly this morning. Courthouse not open. I came on home. Maybe tomorrow.

~ Why your drug store is closing ~ –

    ~ New YorkCNN —

CVS is closing 900 stores. Rite-Aid is closing 500. Walgreens announced Tuesday it plans to close 1,200 stores, meaning 1 in 7 will disappear.

What is going on with America’s drug stores?

Walgreens and other chains overexpanded during the 1990s and 2000s to drive out competitors and draw more customers. They are now shutting down because of shifting consumer habits, competition and changes in the pharmacy industry.

Around 25% of Walgreens’ stores aren’t profitable, CEO Tim Wentworth said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal in June, and the chain will look to close stores that are right by one another or struggling to hold down theft. … ~

I have a feeling my Walgreens will close. One problem is if customers need something (basic) like aspirin or skin moisturizer or other simple things they often have to wait for someone with a key to unlock a theft-proof shelf.

The pharmacy in my Walgreen’s also now has limited hours (closing at 7, not 9 p.m. like they used to — tricky sometimes with my work schedule and dealing with rush-hour traffic); and all of the employees take a lunch break midday when the pharmacy is completely shut down for 30-60 minutes (resulting in a long line of those who have been waiting all that time).

I’m guessing many do what I do and just order regular items on Amazon. The pharmacy is harder to switch.

There’s another Walgreens only blocks away from mine that appears to be bigger and in a better location, so that one will probably absorb the smaller one I use.

  10. The pharmacy is only open 9-6 at our Walgreens, which makes it practically impossible for working people, much less parents, to get there.

I’m thinking of switching to mailorder meds. I’ve only stayed at the pharmacy because of our erratic travel schedule and the complication of possibly running out of meds if a trip suddenly crops up.

I also am shocked when I’m at Walgreens, when a frantic person rushes in straight from the ER with a pain prescription and is told, “Sorry. We don’t have that drug.”

Our world is now so efficient it apparently only serves scheduling computers. 😦

  11. Jo I am sorry it didn’t work out with granddaughter. Praying she did take away even a smidge of the peace that dwells in your home… knowing full well it is the peace of our Lord❣️

Butter! I always purchase a 4 pound pkg at Sam’s…it was a few cents shy of 15.00! Not that long ago it was about 7.00 for the same package. Those cows are living high on the hog now producing that rich butter cream… 🐄

  12. It’s sunny and chilly today. A good invitation for a walk.

Our Kroger pharmacy shuts down for lunch, too. It is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. We can use the pharmacy at Sam’s, too. Picking up meds at such convenient locations where you go anyways to get groceries seems to be the easiest solution for us.

  13. Rite-Aid exited Michigan entirely a couple months ago.

The CVS we went to for 20 years also closed. They said it was because the property owner wanted to do something different with the building and didn’t renew the lease, not a decision by CVS corporate.

We were sad about it because several wonderful long-time pharmacy staff always greeted us by name, treatment I don’t think we get at any other store. We considered moving to a CVS that a couple of them transferred to because we liked them so much, but it’s much further away. We went to a different CVS that’s closer instead.

So far I haven’t heard of any other CVS or Walgreens closures in the area.

  14. I went for a longish walk and wore three light layers. Very breezy!

A few doors away I came across a white yard sign the has in all caps, GODZILLA, then some white space and much smaller letters, Vance, and 2024.

Still scratching my head. I thought I had previously seen a Harris sign there? I suppose that makes good Halloween decor in some minds.
