Our forests are so very colorful right now, except for the places where the leaves are pretty much gone. The complexity of designing each type of tree, leaf, color, timing is so beyond our imagination. Utterly amazing.
It’s Monday. So here are the Friday funnies. I was away from Internet since Thursday so I couldn’t post. We were at a fellowship conference in the Ozarks with 300 people from all over the US. Great preaching and fellowship in a relaxed atmosphere.
Good morning all. A beautiful day here as well, with drops in temp and rain or snow expected starting Wednesday.
Interesting dream last night. A fellow by the name of Kapok or some such was here visiting, a drummer in some sort of band, maybe rap. Anyway, we got to talking and I commented that I noticed he was a believer and asked when he was coming back to the Truth. He started crying and asking if he could. We talked and he made some serious adjustments and started living for the Lord.
That followed an interesting talk with a grandson who wanted to introduce me to his friend who is a girl. She is very nice and quite willing to talk about the Truth.
And an interesting talk with son who came by for a visit. I told him I was expecting a phone call from grandson and after told him that surprisingly, the conversation turned to God. We agreed that is not really that unusual for conversations with me, so we talked about God. I keep telling him God is working.
I asked son about free will and predestination. He said the belief in both working together is called compatibilism, a new word for me. He said it is not uncommon for Reformed believers to take that stance.
I found an article that gives us many new ways all of us can label ourselves!
I also mentioned my thought about that perhaps God gave us free will so He could feel the joy of us choosing to go with Him. Son said that thought goes along with Milton’s book Paradise Lost. Maybe I will read that book.
Janice, I love Paradise Lost and have read it a couple of times.
The idea that God is looking to receive something from us, in our choosing Him and making Him “feel joy,” strikes me as problematic, though. It makes God into a needy being, and it also opens the door to His feeling sad about those who don’t choose Him.
Maybe another way to look at it is that it increases God’s joy. Not that He needs it or would be sad otherwise, but our choosing Him nonetheless gives Him pleasure. (He did create us for His pleasure, right?)

He did. He also wants us to use our emotions–particularly in worshipping Him and in ministry.
