  1. While I’m waiting for the Daily Thread to open, I remembered this ditty from a 60’s variety show. I wonder if anyone else remembers this:

What’s the news across the nation?
    We have got the information
In a way we hope will amuse you.
We just love to give you our views. La-da-ti-da!
Ladies and gents, [name of show] looks at the news!

I have no idea why I remember that. Perhaps I watched every episode? If you remember the name, post the answer on the Daily Thread.

  2. This is who Kamala is. This is her base, a large source of her money, and disgusting as it gets.

“Sweet Jesus. I had watched all the previously released undercover footage of Planned Parenthood abortionists discussing selling body parts, which was truly horrifying. But this is a special kind of evil. And who got prosecuted by Kamala Harris out of all of this? The filmmaker @daviddaleiden not the abortionists.”

  7. Cowardly Kamala is backing out of the Fox debate. She has no platform or policy positions listed on her website. She tries to blame Trump for the state of the economy which she, not he, we’re in charge of the last nearly 4 years. She won’t do interviews, or press conferences either. Just hide in the basement like Joe. She’s a joke, and half of America are clueless, lever pulling rubes.

See for yourself. It’s begging for cash, but no policy or stands on anything.

While they were abroad, Walz reportedly told students to downplay their “American-ness.””

  12. “The rise in prices (inflation) is caused by government overspending, which increases the amount of money faster than the increase in goods & services output.

That is the vast majority of the problem.

Inflation was particularly bad during the Covid years, as there was massive government spending, despite productivity plunging, as people were forced to stay home.

This is further exacerbated by excess regulation, which prevents the market from solving an unmet need (eg housing in high-demand areas).

Occasionally, there is monopolistic behavior by companies, but this is relatively rare and usually only possible if those companies have gained control of their industry regulator. Again, a government, not private sector, problem.”

Key Components of Virginia’s New Voting Protocol

The executive order details several essential components of Virginia’s new voting security protocol aimed at safeguarding future elections:

    • Exclusive Use of Paper Ballots:
The cornerstone of this new protocol is the exclusive use of paper ballots. This tangible approach provides an auditable record of votes, significantly reducing risks like hacking or software malfunctions that could undermine election results.
    • Strict Chain of Custody:
To ensure accountability, there will be a stringent chain of custody protocol for handling ballots throughout the voting and counting processes. This measure aims to prevent tampering or unauthorized access.
    • Offline Counting Machines:
Virginia will utilize offline counting machines tested before each election instead of internet-connected systems. This strategy minimizes external interference and manipulation risks during vote tallies.
    • Voter Identity Verification:
Using DMV data, the state will verify voters’ identities to prevent ineligible individuals from casting ballots. This comprehensive verification process helps maintain accurate voter rolls and ensures only legitimate votes count

  15. Harris was raised with black culture even though her mother was Indian. Among other things, she attended a black church and a historically black college (whose name is escaping me at the moment).

A couple we once knew were a white wife and black husband. The husband was a professional and spoke (for lack of a better way to describe it) like a white person. However, the wife once said that when he talked to his family, the “black” characteristic would come back into his voice.

Of course, Harris is a politician, so of course, she is going to let that part of her come out with that particular audience.

  16. I know. Polls are polls but these pollsters aren’t fans don’t ya know

    Trump’s Resurgence in Polling Numbers

The latest CNBC poll reveals that Trump is ahead of Harris by 48% to 46%. In contrast, the Rasmussen survey shows him with an even stronger 5% lead. This marks a significant change from just a week ago when both candidates seemed evenly matched. Interestingly, Trump’s standing has not wavered much since CNBC’s July poll, where he also held a similar advantage over Joe Biden.

What’s driving this renewed confidence? The data indicates that Trump continues to resonate well with swing voters—a crucial group in any election. According to the CNBC poll, voters favor Trump’s economic management by more than two-to-one compared to Harris.

  17. This has some good points about the Josh Shapiro matter.

    ~ “Well, that’s true: Jewish representation isn’t a “political liability” for Republicans. It’s non-existent.

In addition to Schumer, all eight other Jewish senators are either Democrats or caucus with them. Of the 27 Jewish House members, 25 are Democrats. All four current Jewish governors are Democrats (Shapiro, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker). It’s easy for Republicans to say Democrats have a Jewish problem because, well, the GOP has hardly any Jews. Shapiro would have been the Democrats’ second Jewish vice presidential nominee (after Joe Lieberman in 2000); the next Republican one will be the party’s first. Meanwhile, the GOP’s most recent high-ranking Jewish House member—former Majority Leader Eric Cantor—lost in a primary 10 years ago.” ~

  20. Noonan:

~ (Walz) looks as if he likes Trump voters. But listening to him this week I thought: He doesn’t, not at all.

Democratic political professionals at this moment are excited by meanness, just as so many MAGA people are. It would be better if, instead, they leaned away from it, in contrast, and didn’t lean in. Hot is more alienating than they think. Ask Mr. Trump. … ~

  21. And from Kimberley Strassel:

Tim Walz is Kamala Harris’s Appeasement Pick — Her VP choice was a test of whether she’d stand up to her progressive left. She didn’t.

~ As with Donald Trump’s pick of J.D. Vance, the real error may be lost opportunity. Vice-presidential candidates don’t usually make-or-break a ticket, but with another potential razor-thin presidential race in November—one that may very well run straight through Pennsylvania—Harris’s decision to walk away from a popular Keystone governor (Shapiro) was risky. ~

  23. NJ – My comments have been in response to AJ’s many posts claiming that Shapiro was not chosen because Democrats are antisemitic, and that Harris supposedly didn’t identify as black before recently (but she did).

    Like

  24. The thought that Dems are “anti semitic” does have more than a modicum of truth however. You don’t really see Anti Israel pro Gaza Republicans out there burning flags, spray painting monuments and buildings and spitting on passersby. The hit piece posted is definitely targeting Republicans being “selective” in their party choosing other than Jewish candidates. Kind of sounds like affirmative action in a way…choose them whether they are qualified or not…as long as they are Jewish, or black, or gay or transgender yada yada yada

And Noonan continues to spin her words against Trump…no surprise there….

And it’s rumored that Don Jr uses cocaine?…verify verify verify…if it’s good for one it’s good for all….

    Kizzie,

First she was Indian, then black, then mixed, now black again. But it all changes based upon her audience. THAT is the point you keep ignoring. She’s an inconsistent liar.

Also, Shapiro wasn’t picked because of the anti-Semitic left wing of the Democrat party. That’s a fact. There are numerous examples of this bigotry. A quick Google search and the riots on college campuses earlier this year demonstrates it. Kamala has even gone so far as to threaten to cut military aid to Israel to placate these leftists. This is all well known info.

  28. And there are a good many MAGA types who are not mean. They just don’t post the mean things so aren’t recognized. They just want to live their lives with freedom and not fearing jail for thinking incorrect thoughts.

Just as I remind husband that there are a good many Democrats who are not on board with the far left agenda. They are busy farming or teaching or retired and just want to live their lives, knowing their government is helping those in need. Not realizing the abortions through birth, forced sterilizations, etc.

We are an uninformed people. The media sources are so often just attacking the other side rather than bringing information and letting us decide. Clearly lies are being put out as fact on both sides. So people have given up on it all together.

  29. Personally, I think all the focus on Kamala as a poor faker of accents is just a distraction from the more important issues. When she first did it, I thought she was being like Paul in the Bible in being all things to all people so as to win some (but not for the good of the people). She might have been taught that in law school in order to relate to clients. Just guessing. It is rather comical, but still a distraction.

  30. Shapiro wasn’t picked. That’s a verifiable fact.

There is an anti-Semitic left wing of the Democrat party. That’s a verifiable fact.

Shapiro wasn’t picked because of the anti-Semitic left wing of the Democrat party? That’s a plausible assumption, but there’s no way to verify it as a fact.

There are other plausible reasons for the choice. How much is because he was Jewish, we can’t know.

  31. Kamala isn’t the first to change her accent/verbiage to “relate “ to her audience. I can’t recall how many times Obama did just that. Like he was a punk from the hood while standing there in his Italian suit looking quite distinguished. 😊

  32. Mumsee, I didn’t mean to sweepingly imply maga supporters always spoke in mean ways, but the candidate himself seems to have veered in that direction more than once (and quite publicly) with the name calling, etc. And candidates can influence their followers.

Good conclusion by Kevin regarding the Shapiro pass (almost wrote pass-over then realized that would be confusing!)

I believe the accent changeups are not really ‘political’ but are part of the Black culture, can hear it in different settings, with speeches to different crowds; Black churches are familiar settings for that.

So yeah, there are enough issues to keep a discussion going at this point.

And on the issues, many of us don’t often disagree (though do sometimes, of course).

I do know about the caste system in India and wonder if that, too, plays into Kamala’s thinking. We have a lot of Indians in this area, too, among the many diverse cultures. When working in the preschool, I had quite a few Indian children to care for. It is quite an interesting culture. The boys were more highly regarded from my perspective as a teacher. Their names were definitely a challenge.

Re: your comment at 6:08 – Yes, indeed. All this sniping at things like that (on both sides) is distraction. In addition to that, the sniping seems to be an indication of the contempt (even hatred) that some on each side has for the other.
