  1. Nope. Due to the lax sleeping habits of our August leader, you will find my morning greeting on July 4’s thread, under July 5, 9:18. Well before the alleged first post at 9:49.

Join me in prayer for our August leader who is either suffering a setback or enjoying vacation. Either we, he appreciates being prayed for and God loves hearing from us.

  2. Fireworks are legal in our township and last night was pretty noisy. Our Teddy (whose legs are not short) has been very distressed by fireworks noise in the past but did quite well last night. His Thundershirt seems to help. He’s still a bit anxious and wants everyone to be together in the family room when it gets noisy. He follows anyone who leaves the family room until they rejoin the pack. Once he has everyone rounded up he parks himself between someone’s legs on the reclining sofa. But that’s a lot better than in the past when he was constantly pacing or hiding behind a chair.

Michigan state law about fireworks doesn’t limit when fireworks are allowed at all. Instead it limits when municipalities can prohibit fireworks. For example, municipalities cannot prohibit them between 11 am and 11:45 pm June 29 through July 4, and July 5 if it’s a Friday or Saturday.

Most municipalities, including ours, ban fireworks at any time except when the state says they must be allowed. So we’ve had them in increasing number every night for nearly a week, and will probably have some tonight.

  3. Morning! Pretty day here with cooler temps once again. It reached 67 degrees in the house yesterday and I was freezing!⛄️

Overnight the fawns decimated the petunias I had planted in my little red wagon. They left the marigolds. Stinkers! 🦌

  4. Kevin – Your Teddy sounds like a sweetheart. ❤

My Heidi used to tremble quite a bit during fireworks or thunderstorms, but now at 14 and 1/2, she is very hard of hearing, so she doesn’t even hear them. A bittersweet thing – glad they don’t bother her, but sad that she is so old.

As I type this, she is at the groomers getting her hair cut, her nails trimmed, and a good bath. She’s probably not happy, but will be thrilled when she gets home.

  5. We had a very loud night that went on for hours. This is the 2nd year I’ve had Abby (on the 4th of July) and while last year she showed little if no reaction, this year she clearly was showing signs of being unsettled (I was too, it was very loud and long!).

Today we’re relishing the quiet and the return to normalcy.

We didn’t have our usual beach (professional) fireworks show this year due to new requirements and restrictions (and costs) placed on fireworks over natural bodies of water. Some speculated that would cause an uptick in the illegal fireworks in town so I’m wondering if that is what happened.

We tend to have loud 4th of July nights here generally but last night was just really over the top. Long, loud, it just never let up.

I think we need to figure out a way to go back to the professional ones.

(We did find a vendor who could do a “drone show” at the beach, but not until July 6 — we’ll see how that works out; it will only be 10 minutes long and the displays, while pretty, don’t pack the punch that an old-fashioned, 30-minute-long — with the spectacular and loud finales — fireworks show can.)

  6. Just accidentally put this comment/question on yesterday’s thread:

Tychicus – When you say, “fight for independence,” how do you mean that? In what way?

  7. We did some legal fireworks last night, which was fun. Before doing them, we reviewed some safety tips that a cousin had shared on Facebook. Afterword, all the pieces were picked up and the area sprayed down. The fact that it had rained earlier in the day, and the grass was still wet, was an added safety feature.

  8. I would have been first today, since I got on at 7:30 CDT (8:30 Eastern/6:30 Mountain/5:30 Pacific) but our august (lower case ‘a’ makes it the adjective) leader hadn’t opened this thread. So I thought I’d wait to post the Friday Funnies on the Friday thread.

Did I forget last week? There seem to be more than usual.

And I wonder how Anonymous did not get his/her Wednesday. (It would be helpful if people signed their posts if they’re not logged on to WordPress.)

  9. Did NJ call marigolds a name, “Stinkers?”That is what saves their lives! They stink and Bambi won’t touch them.

I’ve had another busy morning. I got a referral for a specialist from my primary care doc because of a little foot issue. I did not want Pot Luck doctor so am doing diligent research. Also, still trying to decide about a new phone. Research takes twice as long wiyh vision issues but I had a good result.

My new reading device came with some books on cassettes based on my broad preferred category of Christian fiction. I am listening to my second book by Amy Clipston about the Amish. All the shunning! It has somehow reminded me of when I first went to Wed. night dinner at a Baptist church😃 All the cliques!

  12. Mumsee – I sometimes will end a text to Chickadee with “I love you many muches!” Needless to say, that is not grammatically correct at all. 🙂

My phone would let me do that, but then somehow the autocorrect got turned on, and it would not let me do that! I had to have Boy help me figure out how to turn off the autocorrect again. 😀

  13. It’s 20 degrees cooler than where Jo is, but I’m sweating and currently cooling off — after a couple hours clearing off the patio — with the ceiling fan.

Almost time to walk Abby, at least there are no fireworks — yet. But it’s not dark.

Anyone know about webworms? I’m getting webbing in the branches on Charlie Brown 2 (and I’ve read they’re definitely not good for young trees) — but also everywhere else, from the sideview mirrors on the car to around the night lights at the top of the garage, under the patio and house eves …

I take a pole or a rake handle and take care of it each day, but the next day it’s all back again.

Guess I’ve seen this before in late summer or fall, but this year it seems like more than usual.

  14. I don’t use a phone for this site, or any other for that matter. And this Chromebook has the autocorrect truned off. Spell check, on the other hand, is on. I’ll let you find the error I didn’t correct.
