  1. We are off to play music at an historic school a little over an hour away. We have passed this school many times, but not visited it, so I am looking forward to seeing it. The day should be cloudy and in the high sixties.

  2. Morning! Warmish day here today. When I took the dogs out at 5am it was like a scene from The Birds…only moths!! They were dive bombing me as I frantically tried to escape! Just glad I was the only one out there at that time of the morning…my dogs didn’t laugh at me…just stared in amazement!!

Husband is in Lake City running the San Juan Solstice 50. I am enjoying a quiet clean house for the weekend…kind of like a staycation! 🙂

  3. Today began around 73°, now is 84° at 11 a.m. and will be in the 90° range later.

We went to Kroger this morning. The lady employee at self checkout had to help me. I ended up leaving some bags behind. I think she was not used to taking care of it all, so did not put all the bags in the cart/buggy as I had assumed she had. I have to give her grace because she has to take care of all the registers by herself that early. I could tell she was a bit frustrated by my need for assitance.

  5. This was a busy, stressful week on my end, but thankfully we’re not hit with heat-wave-type temperatures (though it has been warm).

Took K out last night to try to find some NB shoes, but her feet are swollen and so she could get the size she needed at the local store we went to.

Afterward we had dinner, her treat and she insisted, at a small, family-owned Mexican restaurant in the shopping center where she often stayed while homeless. The family who run the Mexican restaurant, she said, were especially kind to her, provided food for her frequently (she said she’d bring them money afterward when she had some) and on one occasion medical care after she’d been hit in the eye by another homeless person.

It was so fun when they spotted her looking so much better last night, the husband and wife both were so thrilled when she told them she now has an apartment and is off the streets.

We stopped into the grocery store next door afterward and the checkout guy was equally surprised to see her looking so good. She’d often sit or sleep overnight on the one bench outside of the store.

It all made me so grateful for the kindness of God – and the kindness of other people.

And the Mexican dinner was wonderful, it’s a very small place with a mariachi singing, very homey. I was in there once, I think, some years ago, but it really is a regular spot for many in town.

  6. That is the nicest story, Dj. A real joy bringer!

We have some cloud cover and humidity still is not par for Atlanta so it feels rather nice out.

When my new friend came over this week, I told her my Bible reading for the day was in Hebrews 13. One part is about practicing hospitality for you may be entertaining angels unaware. I told her she is an angel.

  7. It’s hotter here than they predicted today, 86 outside according to my car temp readout.

Dropped off some returns and a bag of (gently) used shoes that no longer fit. Drove the car through the express carwash — not very thorough, but looks better. I am getting these small yellow bird droppings that are so stubborn to get off the windshield and the rest of the car, though.

But the car does look better, not covered in dust and webbing.

Started a new book, “The Kindness of God” by Nate Pickowicz. (Subtitle: “Beholding His Goodness in a Cruel World”)

“Kindness has fallen on hard times. And it begins to wear on a soul. Overall, we’re not doing so well. We need hope. We need truth. We need God.”

  8. As to reading, currently in Augustine on the Christian Life, Transformed by the Power of God. Very encouraging read and I am reading along with third son (he sent me the book for Mother’s Day). Recently finished another in the series: Lewis on the Christian Life: Becoming Truly Human in the Presence of God (also sent by son, still have Luther to go).

  9. 85 degrees here…but it is a dry heat. Not loving dry heat! I filled the doggy pool for Pip. She won’t lay down in it but she will dunk her head under the water as she stands in the middle of the pool. Such a goofy dog!

Husband headed home from his race and chaos will ensue once he hits the door. Savoring the moments of quiet for now…the dogs are now peacefully napping..they have missed their human. 😊

  10. It’s 95° here but still breezy and with a dry heat which I love. I don’t sweat when I go outside in our shady yard. Already we see signs of dehydration in the yard which is turning crispy.

My church is getting involved in foster care so we had the ministry leader from the group we are partnering with speak the message this morning. He was so good. He is also chaplain for a nearby county law enforcement group.

Thankful that my church is trying to make a good path for those children in need within our vicinity. Of course I think of M & M as I hear the stories . . .

  11. Says it’s only 80 outside here, but my house is up to 86 (and “feels” hotter).

Just opened one of the front windows and there’s a strong breeze coming in, though; so that should cool things down. I took a 2-hour nap this afternoon, dreading the work week. Weekends are way too short. 😦
