  1. The lady I would have voted for in the county CEO election won by 60%. Art got stuck in traffic so did not get home in time for us to vote.

For that prinary a while back, we had to vote on a Democrat ticket. The news talked about those Republicans who were party switchers in that primary election.

  2. Happy birthday to Joanne. Good morning to everyone.

We have lots of roads closed from washouts. I don’t think we need to drive on any today, however. We were blessed to have our sump pump keep up with the rain. Those in the bigger cities we live between had a lot of flooded basements, some with sewage. Some homes are without water.

I am sorry for those having natural disaster problems, including the fires out west.

  3. Our LA fire is getting under control (39% this morning), but ’tis the season so more western fires likely on the way. It’s almost July already?

Meanwhile, we have recurring landslide conditions on the peninsula, one road in particular has been rocking and rolling for many years now, underground utilities have had to be moved above ground alongside the road.

Photographer went out to get some updated photos yesterday and said you could see car tires spinning at some points trying to get over the top of what’s locally known as “the ski jump” in the road. They’re banning any 2-wheel vehicles out there for now but the road will probably have to be closed again to see if repairs can be made. The “fixes” never last long, though.

Other than that, I’m in search of a story today …

  4. My new friend came over today. It is fun getting to add an additional person to my life. My Bible reading this morning was in Hebrews 13 and included the verse about practicing hospitality for you may entertain angels unaware. I told new fiiend that she is an angel😃

Miss Bosley stole her sandwich when we stepped into the kitchen. I am not used to having company! Living and learning. Giving grace to that darned cat!

  5. Not necessarily related to Miss Bosley, of course 🙂 …

Gospel Hope for a Culture Fixated on Getting Even

A particular theme percolates through pop culture these days, so commonplace we’ve almost called it normal: the desire for revenge.

It’s the underlying plotline of popular shows like Yellowstone or The Terminal List. It’s the fact that after Taylor Swift suffered a bad breakup, fans claimed she wore a revenge dress that paid homage to Princess Diana’s. The Iowa women’s basketball team’s recent win against LSU was widely described as “revenge.”

Cancel culture is built on the notion that if someone’s convictions don’t line up with the prevailing narrative, his livelihood and reputation can be ruined as retribution. This form of “revenge” is widely accepted and practiced—especially on social media.

The media argues daily about just proportion in the deaths accrued in the Israel-Hamas war—as though “an eye for an eye” represents a sustainable path forward. And political power increasingly seems dominated less by collaboration to solve problems as by wrenching power from “the other side” and punishing dissenters or the disloyal.

It’s clear our contemporary culture is wrestling, individually and corporately, with how to right a wrong. Yet when we normalize or even make light of revenge, we sink to our basest human level and then celebrate it.

A snapshot of the human heart …

  6. in attempting to find something that might catch my dad’s interest, I remembered he might have watched Dr Phil. I saw him interviewing President Trump. Very interesting. Toward the end, Dr Phil asked him to address the report that Trump would seek revenge. Not really. DP continued to guide the conversation going toward, you could set the precedent by not going after them. Trump concurred with the caveat that some of them were so bad, had done such damage to the country, they needed to face justice. I thought it very good.

  7. Or the eye-for-an-eye more emotional desire to punish the ‘other side’ that the author speaks about?

I see justice as different from revenge.

And if a certain presidential candidate does not truly seek (emotional) revenge if elected, perhaps not talking about it so much would help clarify that? 🙂

We’ll just have to wait and see.

  8. Getting ready to go to the pool with a friend. She hasn’t been before but also has leg problems, so we are going together.

The trip to Tahoe was good except that much driving was hard on my hip. I did get one of the ladies to do some of the driving.

My Colorado daughter made a facebook post the other day saying she was ready to see clients as a counselor. She got lots of positive feedback, but I didn’t say anything and my good friends also read the post and told me that they couldn’t like it. Her program was based on the buddhist model and there are so many red flags. Sad to see where she has gone. She told me it was important to ask folks what their preferred pronouns are. Something that I would never do.
