  1. Thank you for the kind wishes. It is special to think about that many years piled up already. Of course we do nothing to celebrate because it’s tax time 24/7 here. I did save a serving of the strawberry short cake that has a nice big strawberry slice in the shape of a heart for Art’s dessert tonight. It had not been my plan, but the heart shape fell onto the pound cake and I thought it was perfect. Thanks, God! Not quite the same cake we had for his birthday celebration on Friday night😃

Miss Bosley continues to be repelled by grapefruits being peeled. So cute to see her expression of disgust. Another graefruit?

  2. Good morning, all.

    happy anniversary to the newlyweds.

Brother headed off to Boise this morning. Always sad to see him go. Another great visit. Dad really enjoyed the trip yesterday and seeing his last wife’s children (her son is seventy five and just retired from farming) and his first wife’s children (my brothers and me).

  3. So there was talk of discharge today. That did not happen.

However PT was in again and I’ve been up out of bed and walking with the walker on 2 occasions. 👍

PT will be back in the morning, and the medication continues to improve things. I’m now able to get in and out of bed on my own and move my leg up, down, and sideways.

    Progress I hope.

  4. Onward and upward and sideways too! Good to hear the improvement, AJ.

Attended a fellowship time at church today that include lunch & a lesson on calligraphy! Yep, it’s as hard as it looks.

Sat next to a woman, one of those not members of our church, she attends the Catholic Church across the street — a retired high school (Spanish) teacher who came to the US when she was 27 from Nicaragua, fun conversation. She now teaches English to some of their priests who come in from other countries.

Good turnout, maybe 30 is my guess.

  5. 😄 AJ is definitely making progress

😄 Our neighborhood has more blooms than ever (all the rain)

😄 All the rain cuts down opportunities to be out enjoying blooms

😄 The young woman student who used Grammerly and is not able to attend school this year is now working on a project with Grammerly

    😄 Church tomorrow

🙂 Slow walk due to high humidity zapping my energy

    😃 The weather is cooler

  7. This time change is hard for me, missed church. Without the sun coming up at 6:30 a.m. …

I did get all the clocks changed and maybe tonight-tomorrow morning will be easier. But it can take me a while to adjust to this one.

  8. I made it to church in time for the early fellowship/baby shower at 9 a.m. The ones who brought the food had been on a mission trip all week. They are a little younger so have more energy than I have. We had blueberry coffeecake, mushroom and spinach quiche, sausage balls, homemade cinnamon rolls, and more.

The sermon topic was Encouragement. I was a bit distracted by an awkward seating situation today since someone had left their purse where I like to sit so I sat further down the row with a seat between me and a black family of mom, pop, and several children. Then another daughter took the seat between me and the family. I did not mind sitting with their family group, but did not know if the daughter would want me to sit right next to her. But I did not move because then it might look like I did not want to sit next to her. Everything feels awkward again for me not having Art there. I keep telling myself to get a thicker skin.😃

  9. I usually sit in the second row of one of our ‘side’ sections, so funny how we have our seats staked out. But if I’m running a tad later than usual, those seats can be taken and then I wind up sitting in the front (which I don’t like so much) row or the back “bencher” line of chairs against the wall (which I like even less).

And getting ‘bumped’ also means you are then maybe taking up someone else’s preferred seat in a domino effect …

    The politics of seats.

  10. We sat in the very back row against the back wall today. We were a little late (due to migraine) and I didn’t want to climb over anyone to sit in an empty seat further up. We, too, have ‘our’ seats. We tried moving around so as to meet more people but the left side works best for my neck. Our church has suggested that we in our different areas, act as a sort of smaller church and check in with each other and get to know the others in our area.

  11. I have a compelling reason to sit where I do. The seat is under a video screen on which I can actually read the words to the songs we sing. If I sit elsewhere I can not read the words and I end up humming along which is not fun for me. I do not know if I should mention this need for accomodation and have one of only two not yet labeled “designated” seats for the visually impaired. Otherwise, I do not mind at all sitting in different areas.

  12. We have 3 video screens, two in front but one on the back wall. So sometimes I can’t see the one closest to me but I can see the one on the far wall, but my eyesight is important for that (I now have 20-20 with my glasses on).

But we also print out all the words, along with responsive readings (which appear on the screen) in our bulletins, so there are good options.

Last week or the week before I arrived late (which is unusual) and the woman who walked in right in front of me nabbed the last bulletin. Yikes. I like those to follow along in, including the prayer lists; and so I also didn’t have anything write on (sometimes I’ll just use the bulletin). I brought a small Bible that day so did jot down a couple things in pencil in one of those margins.

But it reminded me I need to start taking a stand-alone small notebook to church also again. I’ve been out of that habit so last week I picked up a couple if them at Office Depot.

  13. We went for several years without video screens due to more formal Presbyterian preferences 🙂

But when we remodeled the worship room it was decided that screens played a practical role for many so they came back but we try to use them sparingly. The room isn’t so big that we have to project a live camera of the pulpit area, they’re used for just the needed practical things — but since some still prefer reading words to songs from a hymnal or bulletin (both are available in the seating rows) those options were also kept. I go back and forth on singing from looking at the words in the bulletin and on the screen.

I wish the hymnals were more used (and even I have fallen out of that habit) but by the time you thumb to the right page, the first verse is usually over with so it’s just somewhat cumbersome. But I like looking at the notes as well and those aren’t projected onto the screen or in the bulletins.

  14. We don’t have a video screen but we do have hymnals and songbooks.

The Methodists are trying to sell us their church for one dollar. A very nice old building. Some of my children helped to put the new roof on it. But their congregation is down to three. We are around twenty five. We meet in the community center adjoining the library so centrally located.

  15. Too bad that church can’t be moved close to us, mumsee. We keep trying to buy something — and the most likely path for that would be a mainline church closing down.

  16. Happy Sunday…keep up the good work AJ…you’ll be racing some old geezer down the halls in no time flat!!

It is a lovely warmish Colorado day here.

We have donated hymnals and the words of songs on a screen. I choose to take the hymnal so that I know where the notes are going (I kind of like to follow the notes instead of going my own way!)

We have chairs set up in the atrium but we also have round lunch tables. We sit at the tables since I like to open my Bible and take notes during the service…it just makes it more comfortable for me. A couple of times others grabbed the tables and we had to sit in the uncomfortable plastic student seats!

But there was that time at a church we attended for a while. We sat in a pew a certain deacon and his family had claimed. We had no idea of course and nothing was in the pew. The wife came over to me and told me we were sitting in their seat…7 pews back from the front on the right was where they preferred. I told her we would move but she said they would sit in front of us…this one time!! Welcome to the church indeed!

We had a baptism after church today. Because we meet in a school atrium we got in our cars and headed over to a member’s farm just 5 minutes away. The young 12 year old being baptized was so dear and he explained why he wanted to be baptized. It truly was a precious witness.

Others stayed after to enjoy sandwiches and dessert but we headed out. But not before I could take some sweet photos of the sheep and horses. One of the horses came trotting over believing I may have treats (I did not)…I need to move to a sheep farm!

  17. I read “sweet photos” as sweet potatoes. No wonder the horse followed you. I might have, too.

I like having the musical notes, but since some of our songs are in the hymnal and others not, it is just too cumbersome with too much to juggle to try to grab the hymnal.

I remember once arriving late and sitting out in the foyer where there are tables (and a live video screen of the pulpit). I is handy to have a table for Bible and other things.

We recently had some padded big chairs added at the end of the rows in the sanctuary for folks who needed some extra support physically. My elder has been using one of them since he sprained an ankle and knee.

  18. Our screens are only used during the service for “stills” — posting the words to songs/hymns, responsive readings, Bible verses specifically cited in the sermon. But I guess they could be used for video also.

Background photos are by one of our members, all ocean/local beach scenes.

  19. Our screens are used for posting poster type info of church activities before the service begins. Occasionallu video will be shown of missions we support, VBS, or summerr r camps, personal testimonies, and at one point during the service as the worship team leaves the platform and the pastor prepares to preach thdre is a nice transition piece related to the subject of the sermon that plays for a few moments.
