  1. Happy Birthday, Kare! I hope it’s happy all day and night! I wish to see a photo of some beautiful dogs wearing birhday hats in your honor on Facebook.❤

    Have a good Monday, Wanderers!

I think our storm last night was condensed into one gigantic beyond imagining rolling tbunder blast. It went on for a long time. I wondered about where it originated and what it must have sounded like there. This morning it made me ponder if that’s what it will be like when Jesus returns. He will be at one spot on the earth but it will be known all around the earth through sound waves or by some other dimention.

  2. Happy Birthday, Kare!

Good morning, everyone! I’m off to work in half an hour. I work 2nd shift which starts at 2pm, but I usually go in early for overtime. God is good and always provides what we need just when we need it.

My computer is at least letting me comment now…sometimes. The phone is still sketchy. Eventually I’ll learn what makes this new update tick and be able to ‘like’ things as well. :–)

  3. morning all. I had a good time with my nephew and his family. His children were so sweet. Welcoming me. One gave me a gift of a tiny sea turtle that she made. The other wanted me to come in her room and see her doing gymnastics on the bar she had

  4. Ah, a wonderful day for you today, Kare.

I haven’t watched a decadent Super Bowl in forever. (Who was playing, again?)

I played Solitaire on my Ipad while my family, sitting around me, watched.

The surprise, though, was our niece produced one of the commercials.

This family never ceases to surprise me.

It was a commercial involving Judge Judy and I didn’t see anything worth mentioning–and Avtar’s name wasn’t mentioned, so why bother?

    Still, we’re happy for her.

Busy times, lots going on, and I’ve so much to be thankful for–so I’m choosing that for the day!

  5. Good morning, all. A beautiful snow dusted day here.

Husband and son are off to Spokane to take a trailer full of his stuff to son in law. Why? Because husband is nice and because it makes logistic sense.

  6. It was interesting to see the halftime show. It was too much motion for my brain to digest so I did not enjoy it except that it was a different group of starring people which may open things up for better entertainment in the future. I saw one very cute ad showing a field crop of couch potatoes.

  7. San Francisco & Kansas City.

I commented late yesterday on the game, but it was a good, well-matched contest that had some plot twists. Congrats to Kansas City who came from behind and won in a dramatic overtime game, 25-22.

Happy Birthday to Kare! Hope you have a wonderful day.

Jo, glad you had such a good time with the nephew & family. A sea turtle — what was it made of? I have several of those kinds of ‘little’ and unusual gifts I’ve gotten from friends through the years, more and of those friends no longer here so they are sweet mementos.

I moved the car down to the curb this morning, I know my neighbor will be antsy to get out of the house after being in most of last week due to our never-ending storm — another one is coming next weekend, we’re told — and they may also have some doctor appointments.

Today it’s sunny and the sky is blue. Abby is basking in the sunshine in the backyard this morning.

I didn’t think the commercials were as remarkable as they usually are for this year’s Super Bowl (the couch potatoes was cute though). Apparently the Kennedy clan is upset over the RFJ ad which I’ll admit I enjoyed just for the retro aspect of it.

  8. Just got back from the Dr. For a change, the news was good. I will not need surgery at this point. They switched up some of my new plumbing fixtures, gave me a bigger drain so I don’t need to empty as often. The leak is small and should eventually heal itself. In the mean time I will record output and report it to the Dr weekly.

Praising God for his mercy once again.

  9. Super Bowl: we watched. I played solitaire, mahjong, and sedecordle. We turned it off for half time. It was a good game and I was happy to have believers on both teams to pray for.

the commercials were mostly out of my Ken.

I understand the one team was disappointed and I almost felt sorry for them. But they make plenty of money, they played well, they were in the Super Bowl. Not everybody can say that.

  10. I meant to say earlier that the ads *weren’t* as clever as they have been, in my view.

Yeah, losing is never fun and I also sympathize with those guys as well. -dj

  11. so my nephew reminded me of another nephew from my husband’s side that lives near here. I sent him a Facebook message. Would love to see him

David also told me that he is a miracle. He had an mri and he doesn’t have the part of the brain that connects the two sides. When the doctor came with the results he went right back out thinking he must have the wrong room. There is no way he could be a functional adult

  12. Even printed out, I’m not fond of on-line maps. They don’t show enough detail for me unless you zoom in so close you don’t have any context.

Give me an old-fashioned fold-up paper map!

Glad to hear some good news, AJ.

    Happy birthday, Kare!

  13. I love “The Voice.”

I have to still use my phone & map-app for navigation in the somewhat still old-school Jeep but sometimes I will print out a copy of directions and a map from the computer just to have with me.

Speaking of maps, our pastor yesterday was reminding us (via Anna’s story in Luke) that we may have a certain “plan” for our lives and how we think it will or should play out and turn out – but … But God.

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9)

  15. I started watching the Super Bowl for the commercials. I wasn’t really interested in the game. By the end of the game I was bored by the commercials but excited by the game. Go figure.

Most of the commercials just left me bewildered. They tried to be funny, but you had to know context to get the joke, and most of the time I didn’t seem to be in the know. And some of them had such quick cuts from one shot to the next that I just couldn’t follow. I really felt like an old man living in a world he no longer understood. Which is perhaps what I am. :)

  16. Thomas Guides were okay, but I still favored the fold-up maps because if I was traveling across town I liked to see the birds-eye view of the whole trip. I always had an up-to-date set of all the AAA maps of the LA area plus the California highway map. And if I was traveling anywhere I went to AAA for the state maps, and the maps of any cities where I’d be staying.

There I go again, sounding like an old man!

  17. Kevin, I had the same feeling! Maybe I’m just too old to understand these commercials this year. lol I kept thinking, “Hmm, I don’t get it.”

  18. I guess that’s why a sort of perked up at the 1960’s-era re-hashed Kennedy spot (that was blasted by the family today and got an RFK Jr. apology). Oh, look, now there’s a commercial I (sorta) get. I think. Or not? -dj

  19. And I forgot about the “He Gets Us” ad that also was shown last night — I realize those have caused some discussion here, primarily regarding the sponsors. But this pastor on “X” reflects my view of just the ads themselves which are provocative and often well-done:

“I’m grateful for the #HeGetsUs ads during the SB. They’re conversation starters, pre-evangelism if you will. They’re not a presentation of the Gospel per se (and don’t seek to be) but surely they might open a door for you to do that work. They do show Gospel outcomes, like reconciliation, and Gospel concerns, like loving one’s neighbor. That disarming quality is both engaging and challenging. I pray it bears fruit in many lives and opens doors for deeper conversations.”

  20. Happy birthday, Kare.

We watched bits and pieces of the game and tuned in the last time just before the tie. We watched the best part. :)

I couldn’t take the whole half time. Yes, I am old. I thought Reba did a good rendition of the National Anthem.

I saw the Judge Judy ad. The couch potato ad was cute. Some ads are funny or cute and yet I forget what they are advertising or wonder why it would make me buy the product.

The couch potato commercial reminded me of when a woman I know put together a float with her own husband on a couch. I think there was a sign about coach potatoes and a television or something like that. At any rate there was quite the criticism about how mean she was. Her husband thought it was hilarious.

I stopped at the library after not going since well before the holidays. Between dealing with my eyes and busy holiday activities, I haven’t been there. I found more books than I need, since I could never read what is already on my Kindle. Isn’t it funny that even when we are retired, we just don’t have enough time? The librarian mentioned that she takes pictures of books she wants to read one day. She keeps those in an album, so that when she is at the library to take out books, she can remember what they are. I think that is a better idea than all my torn-out magazine pages and sticky notes. :)

  21. The Atlantic had this take on the SB ads, so maybe we weren’t alone:

What was that Super Bowl ad even selling?

Celebrities were all over last night’s Super Bowl ads. Did the stars overpower the brands they were supposed to be selling?

    From a few days ago:

Storms dump heavy snowfall in northern Arizona after leaving California a muddy messHeavy snow has shut down parts of major interstates in northern Arizona while low-lying clouds delayed more than 100 flights farther south in Phoenix

Our local mountains are covered in snow, beautiful site all around us. And we don’t have to shovel it from the coastal flatland.

    But it sure is pretty!

And you’re welcome to the leftovers of our snow…we have definitely had a winter…not a Kare type winter but winter none the less!

https://x.com/AbbyJohnson/status/1757086413089120651?s=20 this link is a response from Abby Johnson concerning the “He gets us” commercial foot washing. I don’t watch NFL for a plethora of reasons thus I didn’t see the commercial first hand. I did watch it after reading a pastor friend’s take on it. I agreed with him and I agree with Abby.

There have been many different takes on this “campaign” amongst believers and non.
