Good morning! Roads like the one in the header scare me! It’s a nice photo but suggesting one might drive there? I am impressed with all y’all who drive in those conditions.
Driving roads like that is fairly easy, the challenge comes when other people aren’t making the adjustments. So I tend to stay off the roads then. But, of course, I tend to stay off roads as a rule, and in partial agreement with Jo on night driving. I prefer not to drive at night due to deer and such and drunks like my children.
I opened a Kleenex box and wondered about the inventor. It’s so helpful how it was designed so tissues are released one by one like that. I alwaus took it for granted. Why did I get curious and thankful today?
Morning! Our roads look like that this morning although unplowed!
Drivers are finding it downright scary on the roads in the forest…ice rink!
We are fine driving on them when we must…but those unaware drivers are dangerous! Slowing down for conditions isn’t on their radar…🧊 💥
Well, I am nearly back. Son in law looks quite ill but he has cleaning to do so he and the youngsters headed out to work. Driving in those very conditions!
You would learn and do fine, Janice. The thought of driving in Atlantic or other big cities scares me to death. We do what we must do, however. It gets more difficult the older we get.
How strange that on this foggy day in Dec. that a flying demon wasp is inside flying around the window behind my head trying to get outside. I womdered, where in tarnation did that come from? Then I thought about that I had taken the cross draped with a red silk scarf off the front door and put the wreath there. I put the scarf in the basket to wash and cleaned off the cross. The wasp must have been hiding in that scarf for warmth outside. Praising God I did not get stungi Now where’s that swatter?
Last nights driving was extremely difficult. Praising God for His protection. I like the widow that I took but she lives three miles south of town on a two lane highway with lots of traffic. Cars coming at me around curves looked like they were in my lane. I’m analyzing the roads around here and realized that is the worst. My normal route is more of a divided highway.
Jo
Our roads look like that 6 months of the year. Snow tires and practice and you get quite comfortable. All wheel drive also helps a lot.
We went tree hunting today and bagged a pretty blue spruce. It’s currently defrosting with its trunk in a bucket of water. I love being able to go out in the snow and cut down the tree.
We’re going to have the twins make easy Christmas crafts and then we’ll go out to our tree nursery along our driveway and cut down a little tree (to thin them out) and bring it in and let them decorate it – we’ll see how that goes!
Oh, I want a tree this year so badly, but need to prep things first.
Sun with clouds today. Easy driving, but I suspect stores and traffic may be busy today as folks dive into some serious Christmas shopping and preparations. -dj
Kare – My mom always used to have a small tree for the granddaughters (my two and Brother’s one) to decorate. She also turned her dining room into a bit of a Christmas wonderland for them. She had a large Disney-themed (IIRC) train-and-town set, too, which they loved.
For this evening, Nightingale and Boy are going to watch a Christmas movie (“A Christmas Story” 🙂 ) and have some Chinese food. I will have some, too, and watch my own movie down here, but not a Christmas movie yet.
Leaves are falling so gently that it looks like it’s snowing
Got my new email account put into my phone. I’ve needed to do this since January first when I got blocked. Now I can get news from World and Daybreak Insiders. Funny I couldn’t remember that name but found it in my email archive.
Jo
My whole house is a Christmas wonderland for the boys this year. It’s a little over the top because I just keep thinking that “oh, the boys would love this!”. The boys’ tree will make 9 larger trees in my house.
😄
Encountered the longest-ever checkout line today at the mall, just to buy some fake-greenery sprigs. Then drove across town to another store for some plastic storage boxes (after dropping the cheap and easily breakable ones off at the UPS store to return to Amazon). Saw a corn hole tabletop set for sale.
Then a stop at Sprouts … Abby got her dinner late, I had no idea I’d be gone that long today. It was dark by the time I got home with everything.
I love “The Christmas Story,” haven’t seen it in quite a few years now so maybe I’ll check it out again — for a while they ran it repeatedly for years every year at Christmas so — like with “It’s a Wonderful Life” — one tends to tire of it after a while. -dj
That road is gravel, and the temp was high enough to make it slushy. We cut a path in the snow driving to church earlier, but there was only 3″ or less. Easy to drive with the front wheel drive van.
We’ve been watching new Hallmark movies tonight. Interesting to see ads for a kitty box monitor to let cat owners know when their pet needs to be checked out by a vet.
So, does anyone want a kitty box monitor for Christmas? We are scratching our heads in wonder while Miss Bosley is scratching in her litter box.
Janice @11:06, yeah, what’s up with a “litter box monitor”?
Winter Wonderland isn’t how I’d describe my house right now 😦
Fall flurry perhaps? Too much to do, too little time.
Interesting sermon topic for us today (I don’t leave for church for another hour or so though) — “Church and State.” Following an elders decision about 2 years ago, we have ‘topical’ sermons on the first Sunday of every month now. -dj
Morning! Snowing like there’s no tomorrow and cold! But it is so beautiful and fitting for a December CO morning.
Staying home from church today.
I have been watching Christmas movies while I stitch presents. Holiday Inn is a good one! Any movie with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire…how could it not be enjoyable…unless one does not enjoy beautiful old tunes and flawless dancing! 😊
Holiday Inn, is that where they sing “Snow-Snow-Snow”?
Trivia:
______________
Holiday Inn was supposed to be located in Midville, Connecticut, but was mostly filmed on a sound stage; also filmed at the Village Inn, 20822 River Boulevard, Monte Rio, CA 95462.
A True Classic
This is truly one of the great musicals to ever grace the silver screen. Between the great song, the dance numbers and the chemistry between Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, this film really is one of the the all time classics. What really makes it great is that it pretty much plays like a great Broadway review that uses the different holidays as an excuse to display the individual talents of each of the film’s stars. However, the thing that this film will truly be remembered for is the fact that it introduced one of the all time classic song’s to the world, “White Christmas”.
Another thing that makes this film so beloved is that it came out during a time when America needed somewhat of a diversion, World War II. This film helped to give people something to put smiles on their faces as the whole world was going to hell. At least for two hours, this film helped America to forget its troubles and put a smile on everyone’s faces.

IIRC, “Holiday Inn” and “White Christmas” are pretty similar movies. Hubby especially loved “White Christmas” because of how they helped out the retired general. (Hubby was an Air Force veteran.)
Kare – My mom was like you in the decorating department. The girls had the special room I mentioned yesterday, but the rest of the house was decorated up very nicely, too.
The girls (my two and my niece) also had their own bedroom upstairs for sleepovers.
Mom knew that she had some serious made mistakes as a mother, and she threw herself into making up for it with her granddaughters. She was such a terrific grandmother for them and they all have such wonderful memories of her. (And my dad, too!)
Now you are making those wonderful memories for your grandsons. What a blessing to them and to you!
I love both movies. The original was Holiday Inn with White Christmas song debut in the 40’s. The country inns are so similar and quaint in the two movies…
White Christmas was suppose to be a reuniting of Astaire and Crosby but that didn’t happen. I do love the music in both and watching Vera Ellen dance in WC is a pure delight…great talent!
White Christmas is a movie that my son and I watch together every year. He likes the part about the army story. Everyone else is welcome to watch too, but we make a point to do that every year.
Movie confusion on my end. I have seen them but are not regulars that I’ve watched. I saw White Christmas most recently a few years ago (I know that was the one now as it had the “Snow” song).
“White Christmas” also has Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen singing that song, “Sisters” repeatedly, as their characters sing it at each stop along their tour. With the refrain of “Sisters. Sisters! There were never such devoted sisters!” I started singing, “Sisters. Sisters! There were never such annoying sisters!” 😀
You all are making me want to go watch movies,
I did some leaf blowing as I was taking out the trash. You know do some up by the garage and then drive the can down and do some at the bottom of the driveway

Wasps are natural predators for moths, I have read — but I guess bringing in wasps would not be a wise strategy. -dj

One year we attended the play of “A Christmas Story,” because 4 people in our daughter’s family was in it.
I see the movie, “Shift” is playing around here. Has anyone seen it?

Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here. About twenty eight and cloudy.
I am not planning for church today, my dad may be. The others will go to Lewiston to the musical “A Christmas Story” after church.
