  1. Hello Black Friday. An American tradition where we blow money on overpriced electronics and other desirable items whose prices were raised before the sale price was set, so we’re paying as much as we would have in July. And a lot of people aren’t buying gifts for others.
    [/end rant]

On a lighter note, here are the weekly comics.

  2. Pure genius on the part of the artists, AJ, to coordinate that sound and light show. Thanks for the traditional Wanderers posting.

    Thanks, Peter, for the funnies!

I went Black Friday shopping at Sprouts at 7:15. Not many bargains on vitamins. I got two bags full for $100.

The food at Cracker Barrel was not as good as before. The turkey was more like canned ham slices. I was surprised. At least I had some turkey thighs I cooked when we got home.

Things were fine with Bro. He put a thank you note in something we brought home and it had a large check for reimbursement of expenses (we had not asked for that but it sure was good to get). Thanks to those who prayed.

  3. I was thinking of heading out to pick up some large plastic container boxes w/lids for organization efforts today — but then I realized today is Black Friday. So maybe not.

I’m also still hoping the roofers will come by – and my luck, if I left to pick up the boxes, they’d come and I wouldn’t be here.

I’ve gone out for Thanksgiving meals in past years but it seems less and less impressive now than it once was when more effort seemed to be made (these were modest but *somewhat* above average — certainly not top of the scale — restaurants, though).

It was Mac and cheese for me for dinner last night. I still wasn’t feeling all that great yesterday, don’t know if I have some kind of minor bug or what. Feeling better, I think, this morning.

Meanwhile, looks like our fledgling union is planning to conduct a one-day walkout, more details to come. No one can really afford even that, of course, but … not to participate will get you certainly blackballed by the union, so … -dj

  4. Good snowy Colorado morning to you all!! 14 degrees and falling like a rock! Thankful for a warm home!

We had a lovely low key time at daughter’s home yesterday. I do believe the grandchildren would have preferred to be with their Dad’s side of family with all the cousins but they were gracious. After lunch they all went to the living room and took naps while we went to the fireplace room and chatted.

Janice I am so thankful to read the kind gesture shown by your brother. And yes, Cracker Barrel’s food has lacked in taste and quality. I refuse to meet there with friends when suggested…

I tried making a hair appointment and now to book an appt my gal’s booking service is requiring the client to give credit card information before booking. I always pay cash and I messaged my stylist that I won’t be allowing my CC info to be stored by her booking service. Looks like I will be on the hunt for a new hair person!

  5. Good morning, all. Family has gone off to Lewiston for some shopping. Son in law has been taking seventeen running lately and was surprised to learn that son has no shorts or sweats for exercise. Well, he does not exercise, duh.

  6. I’ve been unable to get in for a much-needed side-swept “bangs” trim with the irregular holiday schedule my stylist is keeping (to spend more time — soccer season — with her young family) combined with my work demands when she is in. We’ll give it another shot next week.

Cash-only there as otherwise payments go through the salon which is a neighborhood family-run biz and they prefer not to pay the charge-card fees.

  7. I am beginning to think cash only business could be a real draw for customers because it is now so rare. There is concern though aboug robbery for the owner because it would invite that.

I have been dealing with a slow draining kitchen sink today. Usually a pot or two of boiling Clorex water down the drain will clear it, but three pots have not worked yet.

Art and I watched the third in the first series of the Midwives. It was actually very good and had men stories in it so Art liked it. An old war vet with leg wounds was treated by the young lady nurse midwife. It was the perfect one for Art to watch. For me to watch it really means a lot to my homebound friend so I will continue for a while longer with it.

I am thinking of how Paul made connections with people by getting on their level. If it gets to the point of discussing how some of the difficult situations the ladies are in would mean abortion should be an option then I will try to point out that violence to a baby in the womb, a person God made in His image, is not the solution..Violence to innocents to correct the original violence is not right. I know that gets into the situation in the Middle East war against Hamas but that is a different type situation entirely.

  8. Janice, put a bucket under the pipe coming down from the drain.
Take a picture of the pipes and mark the pipes AA and BB with marker above and below the rings described in the next step.
If they are pvc, you can just turn the rings above the lowest pipe on both ends of it, by hand.
Let the water drain into your bucket.
Take out the section you released and clean it out with a rag or brush.
Return it to its place, using the picture if needed.
    Voila! You are a superhero!

  9. Or call someone.

Roofers just left, the problem (as I began wondering and mentioned to them) turned out to be a hole/roof damage from when the chimney cap flew off on the roof during the winds about 2 years ago — but it only became a problem when El Niño arrived last year and the rains came.

He also re-sealed all the vents, refused to take a check or money. They are the nicest family, father and son and a worker, they live in Yucaipa which is at least an hour’s drive inland from here — worked yesterday on a house nearby here that desperately needs a new roof before the rains come again this year.

  10. The drain problem is beyond the parts under the sink, unfortunately. It may be related to why the county has marked our yard for digging up.😒

I have actually replaced the pipes under the sink years ago after I had hired a young man from a friend’s church to do the job. He did not know what he was doing and did not fix it right. I did not ask for my money back as he was trying to support his wife. I went by instructions in a book and was surprised I could do it myself!

Thanks, Mumsee, for that information because some of it I did not know, like taking the photos. We did not have phone cameras when I worked on it before.
