Prayer Requests 11-1-23

It’s Wednesday, so please remember to pray for Joanne and The Gambia.

Anyone else have something to share?

Psalm 111

Praise the Lord.

   I will extol the Lord with all my heart
    in the council of the upright and in the assembly.

Great are the works of the Lord;
    they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are his deeds,
    and his righteousness endures forever.
He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
    the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He provides food for those who fear him;
    he remembers his covenant forever.

He has shown his people the power of his works,
    giving them the lands of other nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
    all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established for ever and ever,
    enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
He provided redemption for his people;
    he ordained his covenant forever—
    holy and awesome is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
    all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
    To him belongs eternal praise.

    I think this will be the last update now on the piano family saga I’ve been mentioning. It would appear that a solution has been found and that I will now be paid on time consistently with them.

    I am praising God that it appears the end result will be accomplished, based on the email I received today, but in all honesty, I am struggling with anger toward both households because I feel disrespected. The second household contacted me today (the first never did, though I asked them to), and it’s obvious they spoke to each other and came up with their own plan. Second household informed me what the deal was going to be, and it was not going to be one of the options I laid out for the first household to take care of.

    It will probably work to get me paid on time, but truly, if I knew how to do a mad-faced emoji, I’d insert it here. They’re charting their own course irrespective of the choices I gave them.

    There was also no apology from any of the three adults from the two households about the late payments; no paying of my late fee on any occasion. Letter from second household didn’t even address me by name, just told me how she was going to proceed and expected an answer to her one question.

    All three of these adults in the two households are professing Christians! Whatever happened to “The worker deserves his wages?” Am I adding to scripture if I say that I think it also means the worker deserves his wages at the contracted time, as well?

    And is it too much to ask for respect from Christians for whom I labor? I gave them choices, but no, it’s their way or the highway, apparently. They call the shots.

    I feel icky right now that I gave in to the second household’s individual’s terms so that I could be paid on time.

    I would really appreciate prayers for my attitude. I would hardly bat an eye at this kind of behavior from a non-Christian family, but I am having a hard time not being irked by the actions and non-actions of this family who claims Christ. I believe they should know better.

    Thank you.

  2. Mumsee, it’s more complicated because I’m teaching at a studio rather than at home. The studio co-owners have to agree to dismissing the students because the owners consider students to belong to the studio and not to the individual teachers.

    They are willing to advocate for me when there’s a conflict, but dismissing students is quite rare because they’re concerned it might spoil their good reputation in the area. They pride themselves on being the best-known, longest-standing, and the top studio in our region, so it has to be something pretty egregious that gets students booted.

    Thanks for your prayers for wisdom.

  3. Praying 6 that for the (hopefully) innocent student’s sake that God will help you rise above the fray and let Him take the insult and disrespect targeting you. It is truly Him they are ultimately insulting and disrespecting since they are tarnishing the name of Jesus with their bad behavior. God is the ultimate Giver of undeserved grace. Only He knows why these people are behaving so rudely, and only He can properly discipline and find just restitution. They sound very immature and act like totally self-centered control freaks and rule-breakers. It’s not you, but them. Don’t fall into the pit with them by letting them steal your joy. God will make a way for their bad behavior to boomerang in His time and way.

  4. Thanks, Janice. Especially the part about not letting them steal my joy. I love teaching, even with the downsides that come at times like now.

    I talked to one of the owner’s tonight, and she recommends I call Household 1. So I will ask for prayer covering that the steam I blew off today with you all and with her will help me be less grrrrr when I talk to them (or one of them).

    One thing got better today: Individual in Household 2 said sorry it was an inconvenience to me. It remains to be seen whether she’s sorry enough to actually pay my late fee, even if it’s only for the most recent infraction. My sarcastic side says I’m not holding my breath.

    The ugly truth about me.

    Thank you for your prayers for wisdom and patience and whatever else. I certainly need them.

    Good night, all.

  5. 6 – You’re not alone. If we are honest with ourselves, and with God, we all have ugly truths about ourselves that can make us feel ashamed. Thanks be to God for His forgiveness (and salvation) through Jesus!
