  1. Good morning. Thank you for the anniversary greetings earlier in the week. I don’t often get time to comment, but I do remember all of you in prayer. AJ, keep you head up. God is in control.

  2. Glad always to see you here and on Facebook, Rk! Thank you for praying for us.

It’s a darkish damp day here, but we should see the sun later today.

Any new suggestions for Bible studies for an older ladies’ group? We are almost through God’s Big Picture which has been really good. The theme of it is God’s kingdom (and Jesus, of course). Tony Evans has a new study about Kingdom Authority which would be a nice followup, but it is about $20 for a study workbook which seems like a steep price. We usually find something for about half that.

  3. Morning!! Such a sweet diminutive birdie in the tree…great capture Aj!!

Our first frost of the season and it is cold outside!

Husband should arrive in time for dinner and the dogs will be we busting for joy at the sight of him! A week is a looong time in dog years!

  4. We should get a 50% partial eclipse up here and we have the welding helmets out in the shop, but it is 100% cloudy, so I’m guessing we’ll just have a darker time in about ½ an hour.

  5. DJ – We have a couple of those “forehead lights” around here. Hubby used them while loading his bread truck in the dark early-early morning hours. (It may have been morning to him, but it was still nighttime to the rest of us.)

When we lost our power for about a week back during a freak October snowstorm in 2011, I used one of those to read in the evenings. 🙂

(The heaviness of the snow on the unfallen leaves bowed down the branches onto wires all over the place. It was a mess!)

~ PHARMAGEDDON Fears Walgreens pharmacists could stage nationwide walkout across US in days forcing patients to plan meds in advance

A WALKOUT is looking to be on the horizon for Walgreens pharmacists – and customers have been warned to plan accordingly.

In protest of worsening working conditions, a large-scale walkout of pharmacy staff at locations across the nation is planned, with whispers of other well-known pharmacy chain staff joining. ~

  7. How can anyone plan ahead with a pharmacy? They limit what they will dispense according to what insurance will pay. But I suppose it means patients will have to pay horrid prices to get what should be covered by insurance? Most people can’t do that. Hospitals need to get ready for many more admissions when people can’t get their meds.

  8. I need those headband magnifiers, Kathaleena. Do you have a link for them?

I cooked sweet potatoes in a large electric roaster pan today. A friend told me to wash them and rub coconut oil ( I used unfiltered) on them and wrap in foil. I cooked them around an hour at °400. They are delicious and smelled so good while cooking.

  9. Every time husband wears a headlamp I ask him if he shrunk the kids!!😊

He returned home around 5 and Lu was on the porch when he drove up the driveway. Have you ever heard a dog cry? It was the sweetest thing to witness. I gave her time alone with him and let Pip out a few minutes later. Happy puppies in this house tonight….

  10. My magnifier doesn’t have a light on it. That would probably be good. I think I probably picked it up at Joanns some years ago. I know I didn’t order it online. I also have one that can go around the neck and one on a light, but I like this one best.

  11. Good morning, all. A beautiful day here, or it will be when it becomes day!

Looks like I will be the one staying home this morning. Husband is taking the children to a play in Lewiston afterwards. Usually I just stay home on potluck Sunday as the children can then both go.

  12. I have thought of getting some sort of magnifier for reading. Somehow, the print in my copies of The Hobbit and the ring trilogy has shrunk over the years.

  13. I am looking forward to my 2nd eye surgery and then getting new glasses, hoping that should bringing my vision back to much better than it’s been, including for reading.

I love the book lights that clip onto books for reading at night in bed (or just in lower light in the evenings in the rest of the house). But I mainly use the iPad for reading in bed now, it’s easy to increase the font if needed and the backlight makes for easy readying in my case, though it may not be “great” for eyes.

The hardest is the teen-tiny print on some of the deli food products for cooking/microwave instructions. I’ve had to use flashlights for that for a couple years now. Hoping some of that gets a lot better once I am done with the surgeries and have new prescription glasses.

Good discussions this morning on the media review program (Howard Kurtz) on Fox with some back-and-forth differing perspectives on the ongoing war, the history leading up to this horrible moment as well as some of our politicians’ responses.

I had to laugh at my older cousin in Missouri and his comments on our phone conversation yesterday (he was on the road heading for the local casino). He’s a Trump guy, *very* politically conservative, has a deep southern drawl after having lived in Texas also for many years, but has little time for what’s going on with the congressional speaker disruption and mess caused by a tiny minority of members.

“I’d take those eight,” he drawled slowly, “out to a back wall, offer them a blindfold if they wanted one … ”

  14. Last evening, Boy asked Nightingale to stay with him until he fell asleep. And then she nodded off as well. She woke up at one point, but realized that she was too sleepy to drive home, so she stayed there the rest of the night.

Before bedtime, though, she had been playing games with Boy and the three other boys in the room. 🙂

Boy likes the food there, as it is kid-friendly – burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc. Nightingale told him to at least order a salad for lunch instead of French fries. 🙂

  15. Blessed Lord’s Day here and I hope where you are, too!

I think it is suppose to feel like the thirties if not actually be in the thirties tomorrow morning. Brrr . . .

I found new Gloria Vanderbilt jeans for $12 at Amazon. My friend said since they are tapered (old style) and not the new wide-legged that is why they were at the good price. But it all depends on size and color. The same styIe can be more than double in price if color is not black or dark blue. I like the straight leg instead of all that extra wide fabric to lose my leg in😀 They dry more quickly, too. Is anyone here in a rush to switch to the wide leg style? Ladies question, of course! But husbands can answer for wives😀

  16. We had to ask the hospital to stop offering kid friendly. Daughter had tv, pop, candy, cakes, etc, along with other special treatment. Every time she wanted a luxury few days, she would attempt suicide. They finally listened to me and her last stay was a mattress on the floor in an empty room. Suddenly, she was able to access her coping skills. Now she has experienced adult mental health, we will see how long it takes her to forget.

  17. Hmm . . . Mumsee, you are so wise. So glad you were listened to since you knew the game and player.

I just hit the breaking point with Bro. I had a major meltdown and am putting myself in timeout for sanity’s sake. Rehab center here is winding down. I am so tired and done. If you have a moment please pray for me.

  18. oh, Janice. I will be praying, that is so hard.

My sister sent out an email to the siblings asking us to share memories since my brother was so sweet and never said an unkind word. Very difficult as I keep remembering all of the ways he put me down.
So finally I prayed because I could not think of anything I could share. and God gave me a couple of good memories.

  19. as I told
chas a few years back. My dad had a light that attached to his chair of bookcase. It was circular with the magnifier in the middle. He was able to adjust it and hold his book and look through to see the print. I think that Joanne’s carried those.

  20. Janice – I’ve been praying for you in that very difficult situation. I have been in a similar situation of trying to take care of someone, and being insulted for my efforts.

(That was when we took care of my MIL here in our home for a little over four years.)

  21. Sorry, Janice. It is difficult. Take a break and put up some boundaries on what you will do for him including what you will tolerate in speech.

We are praying: peace and joy in service to our King through serving your brother.

  22. Yes, Janice, that is the pair I have. I was shocked at the price, though. Joann’s often has good coupons, however.

My husband received a set of lights to put on a music stand. He hasn’t been using them yet, so I use them for book lights when I am reading in bed. I usually also do Kindle for ease there, too. I have bought cheap booklights, but these are better. It has two LED lights you can focus wherever you want.

It will be nice when your final surgery is over, DJ. I am at the point of looking forward to getting mine done but haven’t yet made the appointment.

  23. Janice, that all sounds hard. Did you have to stand in a corner w/Miss Bosley? And I remember when Kizzie was caring for her m-i-law, I think I’d just joined the blog back around that time.

Good day at church, wonderful sermon and our reading today was from the Heidelberg Catechism which we frequently use along with our own Westminster Catechism. After that, a very special treat with a lunch out with a couple from church then I had to take a trip to the grocery store before going home.

  24. I read in bed when I can’t fall asleep. Usually using my kindle app on my phone.

Janice I think your brother needs a time out in his room. It is your house and he is an adult. Just send him to his room. You are helping him. Perhaps even say please go to your room, I need a break
