I would have been here sooner but the Internet was down. I should have called sooner since our modem needed a reboot. The AI operator answered. I hate talking to those things.
AI – “Do you want me to send a reboot signal?”
Me- “Sure.”
AI- “I’m sorry, but I do not understand that response. Please say…”
Me – “If you were a real person you’d understand. Yes!”
AI – “I’m sorry, but I do not understand that response. Please say…”
Me – “YES!”
Reboot started.

I go through that with my pharmacy and have learned to answer in one basic word, the one they suggest if that’s possible. Ugh.
Otherwise it’s “I’m sorry. … ” and the rest of what Peter said, essentially “Let’s try that again.”
Now they often also use the automated systems on “live chat” which used to be such a good — and more direct — way around the phone calls that presented you with a maze of numbers just to get to the place you needed (and then it often didn’t work).
I found the new Consumer Reports magazine in the mailbox.
FYI, Dj, Ben’s Tick and Insect Repellent Wilderness Formula Pump for $7 is top-rated. I was shocked to not even see Deet among the eleven products listed!
But didn’t I just see an article saying plant-based milk doesn’t provide the nutrition that regular milk does? But I know many have dairy allergies and need to rely on the alternatives.
* A new study found that plant-based milks do not compare to traditional dairy on a nutritional level.
* The study found that while 72% of plant-based milk mostly matched dairy’s percentages of calcium and vitamin D, very few plant-based options came close to dairy’s protein levels.
* Experts recommend consumers carefully consider which milk product is right for them, and supplement any nutrition gaps they may face by choosing a plant-based milk.

Interesting that one of the questions at my physical checkup yesterday asked if I was getting enough dairy / calcium every day. No problem there for me, I drink at least half a glass of milk a day and usually have at least 1 serving of yogurt. Grateful I seem to have no dairy allergies.
Dj, I did not mean to make light of your need for bug repellent. I used to get many bites but for some reason I haven’t for several years. Maybe people treat their yards here and it carries over to our yard? I do have the exzema itch as a consolation prize😒
Yes, I am lactose intolerant but thankfully can eat yogurt so I have cereal and yogurt. I switched to coconut milk as recommended for use with the plant protein shake by Dr. Grundy. He does not like soy or almond because of lectins. The skins of almonds have lectins which are bad for the gut; too many lectins can cause leaky gut.
Aj, did you change a setting so people can’t follow the blog? I no longer can get it on my Word Press Reader App. I am on my phone so don’t know if it would be different on a PC.
Oh, and I did order the Ben’s brand, Janice, thanks for the referral 🙂 I don’t even have to assemble it!
I also look for “scentless” varieties of repellants — how scent-free these things are varies, but they usually don’t have any kind of lingering smell if they say that on the label.
I have an appointment with the thumb doctor in a couple weeks. (Did I mention Abby’s yank on the leash a few weeks ago left my thumb joint now “clicking”?)
I’m sure his title is loftier than that. His office also is right down the street from me so it’s … handy.
I’m cracking myself up today. 🙂
Back to the story on the Taylor Swift concerts that folks are trying to cancel here due to the hotel workers’ strike.
The Consumer Reports article probably talked about DEET, but I just viewed the photos of the top products. That is about as much as I can ‘read’ in a magazine so I am limited in the details.
I got the magazine thinking tax clients would enjoy it in the waiting room. I doubt Art has refreshed his magazines since I worked there. One lady told me she was bringing in some magazines sometime last year.
Today I had a lovely lunch with eldest daughter then we shopped a bit at Scheels since it was next to the restaurant. How I enjoy walking around a big ol’ shop with a Ferris wheel right inside the door all the while listening to worship and praise music!
How can I possibly be first?

Spending extra time in Bible study and prayer this a.m. kept me away from here.

😦 mosquitoes 😦 August
Broke out the heavy artillery — DEET — yesterday.
I can count at least 8 bites on my arms, of various vintages, but all recent enough to still be itching.
Done with summer, thank you.

And in other mystifying questions of these times–why aren’t antibiotics ordered by a doctor available at the pharmacy?

It’s 84° and must be low humidity because it felt wonderful when I went to check for mail.

Ah, but “Ben’s” is 30% DEET.
I think there are 3 ingredients county vector control recommends, DEET and picaridin are two, can’t remember the third.

One of those ingredients should be in whatever you use for true effectiveness.
No, the pretty-smelling Avon version won’t cut it. 🙂

Sesame seed milk is the new plant-based milk according to CR. I currently drink coconut milk. Otiginally I drank soy, then almond, and now coconut.

Dairy is high in hormones and since my cancer feeds on estrogen that is another reason for some people to stay away from dairy.
