I dreamed about seeing Chas and Elvera last night. I don’t remember much about it except for telling him that things weren’t going so well here, pretty much confirming his occasional dire predictions of the future for the USA.
Morning all! I measured 6 inches of new fallen snow on the deck and I am sure we have 8 inches of this wet heavy snow….good moisture for the land! It is absolutely a winter wonderland around here ⛄️ ❄️ 🎄
We have left summer and come back to spring today, although it will still be warmer than usual for this time of year, getting into the mid-70s. Tomorrow should be down to mid-60s, and then back into the 50s for the first few days of next week. Sounds good to me.
I woke up to sun peeking through the wood blind slats on my bedroom window.
Sun?
We’ll get up to 65 today, supposed to be sunny all day — but clouds return after that until the middle of next week when it should be sunny again.
Reminds me of how frustrated we’d be when it wasn’t yet sunny enough to go to the beach on spring break in high school. But we’d go anyway, shivering in our bathing suits and the cold Pacific waters.
DJ – In a Facebook post about signals that dogs give out, there was one called the “whale eye”, which is a side eye look like the one in that video. The warning was that that look indicates that the dog is uncomfortable or nervous, and for the person not to continue doing what they’re doing or get too close.
It was mostly about how children can be with dogs, with the adults misreading the distress signals the dogs are giving, which can result in bites for which the dog will be punished.
TurboTax keeps sending me emails telling me that I am 93% finished, and need to log back in to finish up. But not only did I finish on the day I did my taxes, but I have received my refund, too. They are confused, I guess. 🙂
(It really is TurboTax, not a spam email. Somehow there was a glitch on their end, but all is fine on mine, which is the important thing.)
That Facebook post I mentioned (there’ve been a couple similar ones) showed photos of children and dogs that people think are so cute, but the dogs are giving signals that they don’t think it’s so cute.
Years ago a news anchor in Denver was bitten by a pit bull live on air during an interview. I happened to be watching the noon news that day and gasped when I saw the anchor stoop down close to the dog’s face. That poor door was in an unfamiliar environment surrounded by strangers and bright lights. He had that wary look in his eyes and the owner should have read his dog better to tell that anchor to not approach his dog in that manner. They cut away quickly as the dog bit her and she was taken to the hospital. She had to have reconstructive plastic surgery over the next year and you could still see she had an injury to her mouth area. 🙁
OK, got the DNA samples done, they’re drying now; got the kit registered with the company online, I’ll drop the box in the mail today and we’ll see what comes out of it. These kids aren’t 100% percent perfect, however, and different kit brands have turned up varying results, though if there’s a dominant breed that typically is caught definitively enough; just have to take it generally with a little grain of salt.
I’d done Tess & Cowboy with the same company, Tess came back purebred BC, Cowboy BC/Aussie/and terrier(?). But he did have an oddly wiry coat in places, more terrier-like than Aussie. But the primary breeds were also what the rescue had him down as (BC/Aussie) and Tess was always thought to be purebred, she was a beauty!
NJ, yes, I cringe, too at folks (and especially when children are involved) get close to a dog’s face. All kinds of things can go wrong.
Neighbors saw the neighborhood coyote again this morning, there’s a canyon between their house and next house and he/she has been going up into the back yard of the next house over. Woman was in that yard this morning and she let out a yelp when she saw it so close, she ran up the back steps (the owner recently died, in his 90s, so these are family members taking care of the house and clearing some things out).
Kizzie, on Turbo Tax, does it have some added features to help with setup for the next tax year? Wondering if that might be the leftover portion to which they refer as uncompleted? Art’s professional system through Drake has so many additional things that can be done. We use to have quite a few forms that would generate that were not filled out and we had to go through and pull those out before staplng the return to put in the tax client’s package. Just a thought of one reason the message might be generating.
One thing that I thought was odd was that for marital status, since I was widowed prior to 2000, I am now considered “single”. That sounds and feels so strange!
I have less than three hours left in Luther😒
Moving on through his hymn writing, spiritual warfare which he thought was brought on from not being a martyr, and through the plagues, I and II.
Yuck. The temperature may not be as hot as it was yesterday, but humidity has come in this evening as we are expecting some rain. It’s too early in the year for me to have to deal with humidity!
Lots of fields around here look like lakes. Our road has a sign on each end and just down a bit from us warning there is no thru traffic allowed. It rained all day today. Tomorrow we will have snow again.
Turbo Tax kept telling BG that her file couldn’t be processed and they wanted her to pay $130 for using it.
We went Old School. I printed off the form from IRS.gov and she and Mr P sat at the kitchen table while he showed her how to do it.
I learned that she learned nothing useful for life skills so far. School never taught her how to address an envelope or put a stamp on it. I taught her Friday.
She also holds her pen incorrectly and all of her letters are the same size.
Today we tackle the Alabama forms and mail this off.
I look at the forms and my eyes cross.
Good morning, all. A beautiful day int the neighborhood. I don’t see any frost this morning and lots of clouds, we are expecting snow and rain and wait to see what happens.
Church in Springfield, Virginia again this morning. What a blessing!
Good morning!
Instead of warming up today we will be cooling down. It is suppose to go back to the 40s in the evening! And I had only yesterday made the executive decision to put away my thicker jackets😳
I’m math-challenged so I have never even been tempted to do my own taxes. The mere thought makes me shiver.
Debating whether to live-stream or attend “live” for church today, I’ve had a sore throat all weekend and some general stomach/intestinal upset, so I may be staying in. But I am feeling better after a shower, and I have some time to decide, but throat still hurts.
Remember when most of our long-distance communications were done by letter? (And long-distance phone calls were expensive so were considered only in either emergencies or for very special occasions.)
I remember being in Iowa a few times as a teen — my mom was taking care of some business for her father, so these were long stays that felt like being “stuck” to me — and letters to and from my much-missed California girlfriends were such a treat to send and receive.
The pastor’s sermon was on the portion in Acts about Dorcas. He spoke a lot about ways to serve. I liked how he brought out how Dorcas served the widows, not a flashy role in ministry but one that meant the world to those receiving her help. He also spoke about the many times church ministry serves people but not in Jesus’ name. That has long been an issue to me. Some seem to think it not right to tell those being served about Jesus. I always felt that to be a disservice, to only meet physical needs and not offer to address spiritual needs at the same time.
Peter – I did my state taxes at the same time I did my federal taxes. TurboTax took me straight to the state return as soon as the federal return was finished.
Just checked, and both returns – as I already knew, but was double-checking – have been filed and accepted. The refund has already been deposited in my bank. So I am thinking that their reminders to finish are merely due to a glitch.
Because my returns are simple, I can use TurboTax for free. 🙂
This morning in church, I felt as if the songs we sang were picked just for me. 🙂
After a while without anything available, a new women’s Bible study/book study is starting up on Monday evenings. It will start a week from tomorrow. I am looking forward to it. Cindy was excited when she saw me signing up for it. 🙂
I admitted to her and to Jody, the lady leading the study, that knowing myself, I am afraid that when a Monday evening rolls around, I will not feel like going out, and asked them to pray that I will not give in to that. Cindy said that she will come to pick me up whether I want her to or not. 😀
Message this morning at church from Psalm 139…
Our snow is melting and one must be careful out there if under a tree.. you just might get clunked on the head from a huge chunk of snow falling from the pines!
I am out on the porch taking a rest after walking. The breeze is picking up as predicted to bring in the cold front.
What book study will you be doing, Kizzie? I do both of my studies by Zoom call so do not have to go out. One of the studies meets in-person once a month but the call is always an option.
Janice – According to Jody, the book we are starting off with – Holy Roar: 7 Words That Will Change The Way You Worship – is not too heavy, but encouraging. She doesn’t want us to get into anything heavy right off the bat, but is planning to have us study the book of James after this first book.
packing, packing for my trip. Also took 8 boxes of books to church to give away. and lots of cardboard to the dumpster.
My leg was not doing well at all this morning. We will see.
Kizzie, I listened on Audible to the intro to your study and it sounds really good! Seven words in Hebrew that are all expressed in the one word “praise” but are seven different facets of praise. You need to share what you learn here, please. I think Tomlin is at a church not too far from us, Passion City, unless he has moved on.
I actually called a friend this evening to catch up. Something I have not done in a long time. It was good to share.
Had to call a friend to take my recyclables to the bottom of the driveway as it was too heavy for me. He even remarked on how heavy it was. But then I got to give him a set of hiking poles that someone had given me.
Mostly packed, but now just to check on odds and ends.
Happy Saturday morning! We had more rain overnight so the green world outside looks super fresh with sunlight upon it. We should get up to 80° today.
This has been a lovely extended spring for us with the zig zag weather pattern.

I need to send in her DNA kit today (it’s a bit of a hassle doing those, but I have the kit, just have to register it and do the swabs).
For now, I mostly just call her a “collie mix.”

Ok, DNA samples mailed at the Post Office (the big, art deco one built in the ’30s, brass railings and tile, gorgeous).
Now we’ll finally see if she’s part pony or not.

Odd. It’s not like the never mailed thank you’s as children.
But their grandmothers were dead, so maybe they didn’t send as many as their older brothers. 😦
