Prayer Requests 3-23-22

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 55

Listen to my prayer, O God,
    do not ignore my plea;
hear me and answer me.
   My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught
because of what my enemy is saying,
    because of the threats of the wicked;
   for they bring down suffering on me
    and assail me in their anger.

My heart is in anguish within me;
    the terrors of death have fallen on me.
Fear and trembling have beset me;
    horror has overwhelmed me.
I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
    I would fly away and be at rest.
I would flee far away
    and stay in the desert;
I would hurry to my place of shelter,
    far from the tempest and storm.”

Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words,
    for I see violence and strife in the city.
10 Day and night they prowl about on its walls;
    malice and abuse are within it.
11 Destructive forces are at work in the city;
    threats and lies never leave its streets.

12 If an enemy were insulting me,
    I could endure it;
   if a foe were rising against me,
    I could hide.
13 But it is you, a man like myself,
    my companion, my close friend,
14 with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
    at the house of God,
   as we walked about
    among the worshipers.

15 Let death take my enemies by surprise;
    let them go down alive to the realm of the dead,
    for evil finds lodging among them.

16 As for me, I call to God,
    and the Lord saves me.
17 Evening, morning and noon
    I cry out in distress,
    and he hears my voice.
18 He rescues me unharmed
    from the battle waged against me,
    even though many oppose me.
19 God, who is enthroned from of old,
    who does not change—
   he will hear them and humble them,
    because they have no fear of God.

20 My companion attacks his friends;
    he violates his covenant.
21 His talk is smooth as butter,
    yet war is in his heart;
   his words are more soothing than oil,
    yet they are drawn swords.

22 Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
   he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.
23 But you, God, will bring down the wicked
    into the pit of decay;
   the bloodthirsty and deceitful
    will not live out half their days.

   But as for me, I trust in you.

  1. Mumsee–so true about God holding us fast no matter what condition we are in. That is such a blessing for us to know and especially those who suffer from mental illness. He holds us fast.

  2. I try to remind daughter of that fact, He knows her however she is feeling that day.

    Prayer for daughter as she signs in today. Willingness to try a new approach and to cooperate. And for husband as he relinquishes to them.

  3. She is cooperating and unpacking the car, moving into the facility. Prayer for her to settle in, begin finding good friends who will point her to God.

  4. Good.

    Kathleena, I typed out a post to you and it disappeared before I could post it. I had said something in front of one of the priests at my church about demon possession in the Bible perhaps being misdiagnosed mental illness. He stopped me and said they are two vastly different things. He stated he has witnessed true demon possession on the mission field and it is nothing like mental illness.
    You had said something about perhaps a well meaning minister had told him with enough faith he could get off of his medications. I’m not sure, but wanted to share that story with you.

  5. Yes, daughter had suggested repeatedly that she thought she might be demon possessed, so I brought it up with a local pastor who had served as a missionary in the Phillipines. He said the same, totally different things and he had seen no indication of it in his talks with daughter. But did suggest I notice if she would ratchet up if I mentioned Christ. As we know, she did at times, or left the room (Casting Crowns). But we think it was more rebellion against parental authority.

  6. Mumsee, as of late I had wondered if it was a demon possession of sorts because it seemed that there was a quick response to our prayers when you asked for them. It seemed quite noticeable, like spiritual warfare in the heavenlies, with the demon cowering upon hearing the name Jesus sent in from various locales. I really don’t know much about such things, but I wondered and felt awe in seeing the power in His name in action.
