In Canada 0.008% of all vaccinations resulted in serious adverse affects and most were over 80. The vaccine is incredibly safe for the average person. My parents, 94 and 85, had no side effects (although my dad laughed when I asked if he had any sore muscles the next day; I’m 94 of course I have sore muscles).
Norway has a 68% vaccination rate so relaxing restrictions would naturally follow. They have a 3% infection rate compared to the US at 13% and only 19 in serious condition. Most countries impose restrictions when hospitals are overwhelmed.

I’m not too shocked at the content of the high school novels. In an attempt to be relevant and current, many novels have some content — LGBQT, abuse, etc — that some may find objectionable. I have a set in my classroom which has some explicit scenes and its central theme is date rape. I haven’t used it in my current school because it wouldn’t go over well but did use it in a previous school. It was extremely well written. There’s some Victorian novels with worse content, this is nothing new

Democracy thrives under public education. In immigrant societies it is especially necessary as it provides a common social framework despite the diversity of the student body. Privatizing education will have similar results to privatizing health care — unequal and mostly poorer results, which is harmful to a democracy. As for parents — they are already incredibly influential in elementary schools. I’ve had principals bend over backwards to please parents simply bc they feared a call to the superintendent. Parental influence however demands time and energy and most parents don’t have it. The last two years have demonstrated to me how important the physical classroom and teacher is to most students. Very few parents were involved during online schooling when they had the chance, most kids learned far less and even more importantly were happy to be back in school.

In fact, I’m sure she would be happy with a more active gov’t.

The ads were created by a private agency for a legal business offering a legal service. The gov’t agencies have no choice but to accept them — they can’t refuse ads on the basis of morality. Once we go down that road, gov’t agencies can be arbitrary referees of morality, good taste, and legitimacy. If one gov’t bureaucrat judges OK Cupid ads to be offensive than another bureaucrat can judge a pro life ad as too graphic…. and on and on it goes. I could barely see the ads but it doesn’t appear any worse than the beer and cologne ads I saw as a kid watching hockey not too mention whiskey ads in magazines.

Yes, they can, and do often, for numerous reasons, like politics, sexual material, inappropriate content, both of which they clearly have in their ad, things that are controversial, all sorts of reasons.

Law § 235.21, which prohibits the dissemination of indecent material to minors, as such

14. Contains sexually explicit material that appeals to the prurient interest in sex or is
so violent, frightening, or otherwise disturbing as to reasonably be deemed harmful to minors.

In the policy only numbers 7 and 9 are close to applying here and as I said; I’ve seen far more explicit ads advertising beer and whiskey. Personally I think that list gives bureaucrats far too much control over speech. I may be a leftist but I don’t want the gov’t judging what is moral.
Democracy thrives under public education. In immigrant societies it is especially necessary as it provides a common social framework despite the diversity of the student body. Privatizing education will have similar results to privatizing health care — unequal and mostly poorer results, which is harmful to a democracy. As for parents — they are already incredibly influential in elementary schools. I’ve had principals bend over backwards to please parents simply bc they feared a call to the superintendent. Parental influence however demands time and energy and most parents don’t have it. The last two years have demonstrated to me how important the physical classroom and teacher is to most students. Very few parents were involved during online schooling when they had the chance, most kids learned far less and even more importantly were happy to be back in school.
