Friday school gets out at noon, another adjustment to help everyone make it through this school year. I was working in my classroom and then stayed to eat lunch before going to the store. Had a great discussion with the principal and another teacher. I even had a creative idea for her.
Then I left the school to head for the store. On the way I saw a truck come up the hill. It was my friends arriving home in the cage in back of the truck after flying around the world. I pulled slightly below them so I wouldn’t be too close and got to welcome them home!!
Please be in prayer and don’t spread it around. I was out walking last night and saw a couple talking to a gal. I didn’t know her, so introduced my self. I just realized that that is the gal we have been praying for today. She was bitten on the face by a dog and had to be flown to a hospital. the surgery went well but it will be a long recovery.

Phos. I was just a young guy in the Air Force. Forgot what I was doing in Pakistan at the time. Our primary mission at the time was to collect air samples to determine the extent of Russian nuclear activity.
I didn’t realize it at the time. I thought we were weather reconnaissance, to determine if it had rained in the Pakistani desert.

Queen Elibath had just been established. I mentioned to some of the British troops who managed Pakistan at the time, how attractive she was.
Turns out. You do not look on the queen as you do other women. The British soldiers took offense. Though everything I said was complimentary.
Elizabeth was, in fact, an attractive young woman.
But don’t say that around British troops.
Chas, that made me chuckle. Yes, Queen Elizabeth was, and still is, a beautiful woman. But to the armed forces of her sovereign nations, she is the head of state and commander in chief.
Second saw Prince Philip in person when he came by himself to Canada 8 years ago to present a ceremonial flag to the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, of which he was ceremonial colonel in chief. We had a friend in the battalion, so Second went to show support. I was in West Africa at the time so missed that experience.
There have been discussions in Canada recently about whether the monarchy should be abolished. The First Nations are, surprisingly among those for the monarchy. The treaties Canada has with the First Nations are actually treaties with the Crown, and so if we became a republic, those treaties would become null and void.
The discussions about abolishing the monarchy were triggered, not by disgust over the monarch, as she is well loved and respected, but because a Governor General, who is the representative of the monarch in Canada, resigned in disgrace. The Governor Generals are appointed on recommendation of the government, so that this GG was a disgrace reflects much more on the current government than on the monarch herself, but because the resigned GG gets a hefty pension, despite being a disgrace, there wasuch whining about taxpayers paying for redundant officials. We aren’t actually paying the pension, as it comes from a pension fund, but facts never stand in the way of manufacturing outrage.
I would think a pension fun would come from tax payer’s money, so not sure how it would not be from the citizens, roscuro.
The puzzle my husband is working on now shows many tourist sites in a certain area. The interesting thing is that there are four more sites that are on the puzzle, but are not shown on the box cover photo.
I fear for the monarchy because it is not woke. Sad commentary of reality.
My friends are looking at a house for sale on my street. Life sure gets interesting.
I had the most difficult time trying to get something written for critique tomorrow. Finally I squeezed a poem out this a.m. We shall see. One in our group is a poet. She gets around to many poetry conferences. Her critique will be especially useful. Our group is growing. We have a wonderful hodge podge of writings each month. Fiction, nonfiction, children’s, poetry, blog posts, articles . . . never a dull writing to critique.
So, it is a closed fund in which no taxpayers money continues to go into it. My husband’s pension is from a fund like that. It seems strange that a government one is like that. Interesting.
K, I’m not sure if it is a closed fund, but what I meant is that with the fund already being there, and several other retired Governor Generals living already receiving the same pension, it wasn’t an added expense on taxpayers – if there is money going into it, it would be going into it anyway. There is apparently another perk that retired Governor General’s recieved, that of getting an expense account, that is more of a direct drain on taxpayers, and might be a good idea to get rid of, but that was not the discussion point I was hearing in the news. In general, such decisions are better not made in the heat of the moment – the opposition was making a fuss about this particular GG and talking about stripping pensions from government members who resign in disgrace, only to have an opposition party Senator resign to avoid being forced out by the other Senate members – if the Senator had been forced out, she would have lost her pension. Glass houses and throwing stones effect. NB: The GG’s disgrace was being an intolerable bully to staff.
Roscuro, what’s your take on how the Harry and Meghan drama will eventually play out? It sounds also like there’s quite a bit of tension between Harry and his more traditional brother, William, that has been ongoing but now is more pronounced.
Busy day for me today, I have to help out in the coverage of LA schools finally starting to reopen next week + do something on a protest caravan planned tomorrow in one of our port communities (in protest of using a vacant grocery store property for a permanent housing site for the homeless).

What is my honest opinion? I feel sorry for Harry, I think he is being manipulated by a controlling spouse into doubting family members he once had a good relationship with – I’ve seen it happen with individuals far out of the public eye and recognize the symptoms. But he is sixth in line to the throne, so his family drama is just more minor celebritism. Boring, and the Queen has already weathered family drama that hit much closer to the throne.
In a way though, I find it interesting that the reports of Meaghan bullying palace staff coincided quite closely with the reports of our former GG bullying staff – this GG was a woman by the way, and incidentally, was formerly an astronaut, with all the accompanying degrees and accomplishments of an astronaut. The former astronaut resigned in disgrace, and the former TV actress got an interview with a former talk-show host. Such are the vagaries of public life.
It has seemed like a somewhat surprising turn for Harry who had seemed to mature so much in the past few years (not that I follow it, but it was my general impression based on coverage here and there that I’ve seen).
So I tend to have the same sense, that it’s his spouse who is creating much of the unrest and taking him along with her. It’s sad — and I think it will be a period that Harry, at least, may come to regret in many ways.
But hey, the wedding was spectacular as only the Royals can do it.

Our family is agreed that we would never have realized Meaghan was mixed race if the media hadn’t made so much of it – to our eyes, she simply appeared to have southern Italian or Spanish ancestry. Not that it matters at all, but rather we see it as emblematic of how the significance of outward appearance is blown out of proportion. As I have indicated before, my British upper class great grandmother was convinced my maternal grandmother’s family had Gypsy in them, and she based that conviction on the fact that her grandchildren had thick curly dark hair, wide noses and wide mouths with thick lips. In other words, she regarded them as being of mixed race (British culture classified more than just those of African descent as ‘black’ – dark skinned people from India were also called black) based solely on the genetic phenotypes she saw in her grandchildren. To this day, we do not know if we do have any Roma ancestry, because my maternal grandmothers family was British working class and had few records, but we wouldn’t care at all, in fact, we probably would be rather pleased to have it confirmed.
For the next 2 years, the one side is essentially in full power (almost, they still need to get the Supreme Court, which is “straying” more conservative, locked back inside the corral — and that’s now their next push).

Kim, How did you know? One of my wife’s niece, nephew and 2 children moved to North Carolina! He is a surveyor and she is a school teacher. I think their kids (people) are 5 and 7.
He was tired of political comments from the left. She was denied advancement because “she didn’t speak Spanish.” They both have brown/blonde hair. She has blue eyes; I think he does too.
I have heard from others that so and so is sure everyone is racist against her and I was very surprised, since I had no idea they were a different race either. I don’t live in her shoes, but I find it strange when they don’t look any different than most people I know who are Caucasian.
A number of folks from my church are moving or have already moved to Texas, it’s something of a full-on migration going on.
Another church family moved to GA a couple years ago, I’m guessing they’re somewhat mortified over what’s happening in a state they thought would be such a good fit for their more conservative politics. They were “moving to America” our pastor quipped at the time. I’m sorry I lost touch with the “matriarch,” a youthful and recently retired public school teacher who was a delight and very outgoing. I may have to try to find her email again.
It is sad when people are so well trained in the victim mentality even as they have more going for themselves than the average person. It’s opportunistic, playing the current times race card, and basically like double dipping. They claim to be a victim and get those perks while at the same time getting the perks of an upper class lifestyle. It is a very selfish way of life, benefitting themselves while keeping trouble stirred up. Helping themselves when they could be helping others.
Okay, this may seem like TMI, but it leads to a funny little thing. Today, Gabby is experiencing her first real “time of the month” with the resulting discomfort and feeling yucky. (The ladies were discussing this while waiting for the afternoon school bus.)
So, Nightingale and Boy went to the store, and bought her a Period Survival Kit of a whole bunch of snacks and candy picked out by Boy according to what he knows of her likes, along with a little bouquet of flowers picked out by Nightingale. Boy is adamant that everyone know that the flowers are not from him. 😀
I had no idea there is a “Period Survival Kit.” If we ever had a semblance of such a thing it would have been a box of Midol. Is that even around anymore?
I wish that succession would be able to skip Charles and go straight to William.
Harry and Megan are not important, really, to the monarchy. Sadly.
Yes, our last GG was awful. In her first speech she added her own opinions and ridiculed people who believe in God. Sigh. She’s supposed to read the speech given her and not ad lib.

A rare week in piano lessons: EVERYBODY attended! In fact, those twin boys you know about came to lessons two days this week: Monday and Friday. (For a reschedule of the lessons they’ll miss next week, and for their regular lesson day, respectively.)
Tonight I met a new student. She is tall for 6 years old — her feet reach the floor while she’s seated properly on the piano bench. Most kids that age need a foot stool to be able to sit with feet flat on a surface.
She had a great first lesson — was shy at first, but opened up as we went along. At the end of the lesson, her mom told her, “I could see your smiling eyes as you came out of the lesson room. ” 🙂
Monday another new student begins — a 5-year-old boy. I might only have him for 5 months, as he’ll go to school in the fall and will not be able to have a 2:30pm lesson then. Only if someone with an after-school time drops would I be able to accommodate him longer. The family (me, too) is okay with the possibility that we might not be able to continue in the fall. They wanted him to start now anyway. Sounds like he’s excited about it. 🙂
Peter, I’m sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I can’t remember if I told you that. I read about it sometime after the fact, having been behind here for quite a while.
(And haven’t actually caught up, and never will. I couldn’t remember which day I’d last been here when I came back after an absence.)
What a day. Our flight from Tucson was delayed by mechanical problems, which put us in Dallas too late for a connection. The airline (I will not name, but it’s initials are AA) put us on a flight that was scheduled at 6:30. (originally we were to leave at 4:45). We boarded late due to the plane arriving late Then we asta there waiting. The flight crew didn’t show up so they had to get another one. They just arrived from Boston and had to do the preflight. Then there was a delay because of severe weather in the area. Later they had us deplane because the pilots had already been on the job longer than the FAA allowed, and thunder storms between here and St. Louis made it such that the FAA closed the airspace. So here I am in the Dallas airport waiting until tomorrow morning. Since the flight was not canceled ut delayed until then, we are not getting a hotel voucher.
The really bad part i the announcements about it being a federal law to wear a mask “at all times”. We’re being rebellious and taking them off. Hey, no one else is around this part of the waiting area.

So, Nightingale and Boy went to the store, and bought her a Period Survival Kit of a whole bunch of snacks and candy picked out by Boy according to what he knows of her likes, along with a little bouquet of flowers picked out by Nightingale. Boy is adamant that everyone know that the flowers are not from him. 😀

I had no idea there is a “Period Survival Kit.” If we ever had a semblance of such a thing it would have been a box of Midol. Is that even around anymore?

Yes, our last GG was awful. In her first speech she added her own opinions and ridiculed people who believe in God. Sigh. She’s supposed to read the speech given her and not ad lib.

I am probably one of the most clueless persons on the planet when it comes to knowing anything about the royal family. 🙂
A rare week in piano lessons: EVERYBODY attended! In fact, those twin boys you know about came to lessons two days this week: Monday and Friday. (For a reschedule of the lessons they’ll miss next week, and for their regular lesson day, respectively.)
Tonight I met a new student. She is tall for 6 years old — her feet reach the floor while she’s seated properly on the piano bench. Most kids that age need a foot stool to be able to sit with feet flat on a surface.
She had a great first lesson — was shy at first, but opened up as we went along. At the end of the lesson, her mom told her, “I could see your smiling eyes as you came out of the lesson room. ” 🙂
Monday another new student begins — a 5-year-old boy. I might only have him for 5 months, as he’ll go to school in the fall and will not be able to have a 2:30pm lesson then. Only if someone with an after-school time drops would I be able to accommodate him longer. The family (me, too) is okay with the possibility that we might not be able to continue in the fall. They wanted him to start now anyway. Sounds like he’s excited about it. 🙂

Peter, I’m sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I can’t remember if I told you that. I read about it sometime after the fact, having been behind here for quite a while.
(And haven’t actually caught up, and never will. I couldn’t remember which day I’d last been here when I came back after an absence.)
Anyway, my sincere condolences.

What a day. Our flight from Tucson was delayed by mechanical problems, which put us in Dallas too late for a connection. The airline (I will not name, but it’s initials are AA) put us on a flight that was scheduled at 6:30. (originally we were to leave at 4:45). We boarded late due to the plane arriving late Then we asta there waiting. The flight crew didn’t show up so they had to get another one. They just arrived from Boston and had to do the preflight. Then there was a delay because of severe weather in the area. Later they had us deplane because the pilots had already been on the job longer than the FAA allowed, and thunder storms between here and St. Louis made it such that the FAA closed the airspace. So here I am in the Dallas airport waiting until tomorrow morning. Since the flight was not canceled ut delayed until then, we are not getting a hotel voucher.
This is why I perfer to drive when I can.
