The Lord’s Prayer is not allowed in most U.S. Public schools any more.
A kid in Minnesota wrote the following NEW School Prayer:
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God’s name is prohibited by the State.
We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the ‘unwed daddy,’ our Senior King.
It’s ‘inappropriate’ to teach right from wrong.
We’re taught that such ‘judgments’ do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It’s scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
😦 NOT feeling as though I could safely gather with my family this week (I tried to see if they could make the reunion a month later, as I thought it might be clearer by then whether it’s safe, but family had already gotten plane tickets and approved time off and such months ago, so it didn’t seem doable).
🙂 Being able to put my husband first in that decision.
🙂 Having it confirmed in a couple of different ways.
🙂 Our beautiful weather, and the abundance of wildflowers, the beginning of the butterfly season, etc.
🙂 Finally finishing a project that was nearly a month late since it always took the authors a long time to answer any questions I had.
🙂 My husband has had a good amount of energy this week, and he is putting together storage solutions for the part of the condo we hadn’t finished yet.
Cheryl – Knowing that you had decided not to attend your family reunion, and feeling sad for you about that, I was relieved for you by that confirmation.

I don’t feel I worded the last part of that correctly. It doesn’t “sound right” in my ears. But you know what I mean. 🙂

I may get to go on a vacation.
Assuming I survive packing the car. 🙂
