Prayer Requests 1-14-20

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 135

Praise the Lord.

   Praise the name of the Lord;
    praise him, you servants of the Lord,
you who minister in the house of the Lord,
    in the courts of the house of our God.

Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
    sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.
For the Lord has chosen Jacob to be his own,
    Israel to be his treasured possession.

I know that the Lord is great,
    that our Lord is greater than all gods.
The Lord does whatever pleases him,
    in the heavens and on the earth,
    in the seas and all their depths.
He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
    he sends lightning with the rain
    and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
    the firstborn of people and animals.
He sent his signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt,
    against Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 He struck down many nations
    and killed mighty kings—
11 Sihon king of the Amorites,
    Og king of Bashan,
    and all the kings of Canaan—
12 and he gave their land as an inheritance,
    an inheritance to his people Israel.

13 Your name, Lord, endures forever,
    your renown, Lord, through all generations.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people
    and have compassion on his servants.

15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
    made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
    eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,
    nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
    and so will all who trust in them.

19 All you Israelites, praise the Lord;
    house of Aaron, praise the Lord;
20 house of Levi, praise the Lord;
    you who fear him, praise the Lord.
21 Praise be to the Lord from Zion,
    to him who dwells in Jerusalem.

   Praise the Lord.

  1. My prayer today is that as we enjoy each other’s company throughout this day, my girls will see Jesus in me. Along with that, that their relationship with each other will be deepened.

    (Also that Chickadee will feel more comfortable and “at home” when she is here with us. Sometimes there is an awkwardness between her and me that hurts my heart, as we used to be very comfortable and at ease with each other.)

    (Should that be “her and I” in that last sentence? “Me” seems to fit the rule, but doesn’t “sound” right.)

  2. Kizzie, “her and me” is correct. When in doubt, remove the first one in the sentence and see if it works (you wouldn’t say “between I” so you leave the “me”).

    May it be a sweet day. By the way, sometimes people just are awkward for a while, even if they know each other well. Neither of you has much people contact, and my hunch is that both of you are a little socially awkward. If you’re sometimes awkward with each other, that’s natural and says nothing about your love for each other.

  3. (I myself can be socially awkward–less so as I get older and accept more that everyone is different and that occasional awkwardness is normal–but I wasn’t using the term as an insult.)

  4. Yes, that is the rule I was referring to. I guess so many people say things incorrectly so often that we begin to “hear” them as correct. I see a lot of people using “I” when “me” is the correct word.

    Believe it or not, I am not usually socially awkward, as I have become more comfortable with myself and can be kind of outgoing (while still being an introvert) as I have grown older. But my independent daughter, Nightingale, feels that she is socially awkward. I don’t think it is obvious to others, though, just something she feels inside.

  5. My husband has had trouble getting over his cold / sinus infection, so he went to the doctor, thinking he probably has bronchitis. The doctor sent him for a chest X-ray, and he has pneumonia. He has been sick since Christmas day and is already quite tired of being sick. He has also lost some weight during this time, and of course doesn’t have much of an appetite. So I need to be a good nurse and his meds need to work, and ideally fairly quickly!
