Prayer Requests 1-11-20

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 133

A song of ascents. Of David.

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,
    running down on the beard,
   running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
    were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
    even life forevermore.

  1. I’m home from church — got hit with a doozy of a sore throat suddenly last evening, accompanied soon after by cough, headache, and a gravelly voice. No body aches, though, fortunately, other than the headache (feels like sinus involvement). Prayers that whatever this is goes away as fast as it came on? Thanks.

  2. Feel better 6 arrows, so many people are sick right now.

I talked with my neighbor yesterday, the son’s melanoma surgery (back) went well — and the good news is doctors said there is no direct connection to the melanoma (forehead) that was taken out a year ago — so that means these are separate spots and not something, thankfully, that traveled through the body (which would pose a much, much bigger and scarier scenario going on). Doctors said he is, however, clearly “prone” to getting melanomas, so he’ll have to go in for a full body check/scan every 3-6 months.

His mom is pretty wiped out, and she may be looking at a knee replacement surgery in the year to come, her mobility is really declining. Their two 90-pound Lab dogs (only 3 years old) also are having health issues. It’s hard after having been so active all her life, raising 2 boys, being a handy do-it-yourself helper to her husband for projects around the house, a compulsive house cleaner. I sense she’s dealing with some struggles there as they both age and find they’re not able to do the things they once did so easily (but her husband, 10 years older than I am, is still working as an electrician at the hospital down the street from us).

They’re not believers, she was raised nominal Catholic (I sense the exposure to the church was pretty minimal, not sure about him, he’s originally from Oklahoma) and told me it just made her feel like she could never be “good enough,” didn’t like what she felt was too much emphasis on sin; I talked a bit then about God’s grace, but not sure it hit any kind of a mark.

So pray I can find ways to minister and share the gospel more effectively than I have with them — and that God would use this unsettling time in their lives to bring them to faith.

  4. 6 Arrows – It’s the opposite with me. I have kind of a “low-grade cold” that has been coming on slowly, with an on-again-off-again sore and scratchy throat since Monday, and cold symptoms finally starting in the last couple days, along with a some headaches. This morning I was quite dizzy, but that passed after a while. It was kinda funny when I was trying to walk in one direction, and my dizziness caused me to veer in another direction. Looked like I was drunk. 😀

  5. I have a sister-in-law of my heart (she and my brother were divorced after 32 years of marriage) who needs prayer. She fill and was out from New Years Eve to New Years Day before being discovered by her children. She was dizzy, disoriented, not making sense. She did have a sinus infection. She was hospitalized for 6 days and then sent to a place for rehab for her balance or whatever. She seemed to be making progress, but went backwards. She will have an MRI to try to determine what is going on. Her name is Kathy.

  6. DJ, thanks for the update on your neighbor’s son with melanoma. And for the update on Josh, Kizzie.

Do be careful with the dizziness, Kizzie.

Kathaleena, am I understanding correctly that Kathy fell while outside, and remained there from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1 before being found? If so, did she suffer hypothermia? Or perhaps she lives in a warmer climate than MN or thereabouts?

Or maybe by “out” you’re saying the fall knocked her out, not necessarily that she was outside? Either way, that doesn’t sound good. Prayers for her.

  7. Praise: Friend at church was back today following a long and scary bout with the flu in which his temp soared to 105. He’s probably in his later 70s or maybe 80-something, but is a former actor, travel writer from Britain (he also writes a monthly column for one of our weeklies) so he is still handsome with a full head of gray hair (his wife is younger by a bit, but she was an airline stewardess from Germany so they’re a really attractive couple, they seem ageless). Anyway, he told me his doctor said people his age were dying this year with the kind of flu symptoms he had. So very scary. We’d emailed a couple times during his absence, I guess this hit in mid-December.

  8. The dizziness went away by mid-morning.

I have always been prone to dizziness – or even getting close to passing out, which I have learned to control by sitting down and putting my head down – and it is assumed that it is due to the Moebius Syndrome, as the vagus nerve may be involved as well. Many of us have balance problems, and tend towards dizziness at times, especially when ill. (I have passed out at least a couple times throughout the years, but usually feel it coming on, with my vision dimming, and quickly sit and bend over with my head down for a bit.)
