Hello, and welcome to another addition of the Pickled Pigskin Picks. My name is Peter L and I’m here to provide you with an opportunity for fame and glory. Okay, so boasting rights on a small blog is what you can gain by guessing the outcome of more college football games than a half-dozen other contenders, besides getting to choose which game is the tie breaker.Mumsee from Idaho was the latest winner, and she picked a doozie of a game, featuring two contenders for the PAC 12 title.
Pick your favorites by NOON EDT Saturday, the 19th of October, 2019, and you’ll be entered into the registry. Buena suerte, as they say south of the border.
1. #9 Florida @ South Carolina
2. Purdue @ #23 Iowa
3. #14 Boise State @ BYU
4. South Florida @ Navy
5. Florida State @ Wake Forest
6. #17 Arizona State @ #13 Utah
7. #16 Michigan @ #7 Penn State
8. Air Force @ Hawai’i
9. Pillow Fight: Rice (0-6) @ UTSA (2-4)
10. Tie Breaker:pick winner and final score: #12 Oregon @ #25 Washington
Here goes:
Gamecocks – after their showing in Georgia, they are pumped for more.
Hawkeyes – Sorry, Boilermakers, Iowa has something to prove after a few humiliations at home.
Broncos – Normally BYU is good, but not this year.
Middies – GO NAVY!
Demon Deacons – Funny how a religious school would have demons as mascots.
Utes – I root for Arizona and whomever is playing the Sun Imps.
Nittany Lions – Just what is a Nittany Lion anyway?
Falcons – I grew up in an Air Force town.
Roadrunners – an all bird contest, but I like ‘runners more than owls.
Ducks 45 to 35 – I don’t care for either team, but after Washington embarrassed Arizona in Tucson, it’s their turn to take it on the chin.
From Wikipedia: “The Nittany Lion is the mascot of the Penn State Nittany Lions—the athletic teams of the Pennsylvania State University, located in University Park, Pennsylvania, USA. It is an eastern mountain lion, the “Nittany” forename referring to the local Mount Nittany, which overlooks the university.”
Gamecocks and Boilers played at the same time. On different channels. I watched both.’ What is amazing to me is that when one is in commercial, the other is too. Not just programmed time-out, like end of quarter, but in the game time out.
Both played good games, but lost.

Interesting, Mumsee’s and Janice’s picks are identical except for spelling and tiebreaker scores.
I don’t know what team names go with what schools so Chas’s and Peter’s picks are opaque to me. It’s a good thing Peter knows all this stuff.

Kevin, I did have to look up a couple of the mascots, like UTSA Roadrunners.
FYI- besides the tie breaker score, we only differ in the Florida/SC and Air Force/Hawai’i games.

Janice and Mumsee tied with 9 apiece. Janice was off by 18 on the tie breaker, while Mumsee was off by 24. So Janice wins.
Totals:
Janice and Mumsee 9
Kevin and I 8
AJ 7
Chas 5
Congrats, Janice. What’s going to be the next tie breaker game?
