Prayer Requests 9-23-19

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
   He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

  1. For the people of Hong Kong.

    I have been praying that God would do a miracle, and free them from the clutches of China. (I also pray for a “great awakening” to flow through the Chinese communist party.)

  2. Prayer for former co-worker and friend who’s in a tough situation — her mom (who lives & has a business in Ariz.) fell and daughter agreed to take a leave from her work and come out to help take care of her. But the family has Christian Science roots so, while I’m not sure, it sounds from our texting conversations that no doctor has been seen and the mom isn’t doing real well, lots of mobility issues so she can’t really be on her own very well. But it’s already been a few months. Friend is a very caring, faithful daughter but is not seeing a good way out right now. There are other complications in clearing out 2 homes (in different states) from recent death of the grandmother. On the plus side, finances seem not to be a problem.

    But prayer is needed for their salvation, first of all, but also for peace and strength and some resolution to the situation.

    And yes, prayer for China, especially brothers and sisters in the faith. Our pastor and some elders have made a few trips there over the years to meet with underground churches and have made connections they still maintain. They said virtually every pastor had already served time in a labor camp for their faith when they first visited some years ago and many of them were incarcerated again now. My retired school teacher friend also is now involved in an online tutoring program for children in China, she gets up before dawn every morning for 4 a.m. online classes. I don’t think she’s followed much of what’s been going on there politically or with the crackdowns on churches and other religions, so I’ve sent her a couple articles. Some people here have the misconception that since there are “state-sanctioned” Catholic & Protestant churches now, all is well. But they are all tightly under the rule of the government which insists on being the ultimate authority over people’s lives, under no other.

  3. DJ, good reminder. My church has a lot of connections to China–I won’t give more details than that, but we do–including one of our members recently starting doing the online tutoring, too. I sat behind two Chinese ladies in church last night, no idea if they were Christians or not, but the sense I get from so many is that China is a hard place to live.

    I also heard of a situation over the weekend (from a Chinese lady) who has a friend who’s in China, and pregnant with an illegal third baby. It’s likely to cost either her or her husband their job. To complicate matters, her husband has some chronic health concerns, her mother is fighting cancer . . . and the doctor says the baby (fetus) may have Down syndrome. A lady in our group who has a Down syndrome child said she’ll be willing to talk with the woman if she can help, but there is some real suffering here.

  4. We, too have connections. And a friend, not from here, just returned from a trip there. She says it well may be her last but more due to health concerns and age concerns of herself. Lots of connections. Lots of believers. God knows each by name. May He be glorified.
