It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Psalm 119:169-176
ת Taw
169 May my cry come before you, Lord;
give me understanding according to your word.
170 May my supplication come before you;
deliver me according to your promise.
171 May my lips overflow with praise,
for you teach me your decrees.
172 May my tongue sing of your word,
for all your commands are righteous.
173 May your hand be ready to help me,
for I have chosen your precepts.
174 I long for your salvation, Lord,
and your law gives me delight.
175 Let me live that I may praise you,
and may your laws sustain me.
176 I have strayed like a lost sheep.
Seek your servant,
for I have not forgotten your commands.
“The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.” Tertulian
Tertulian was a Berber born in Tunisia in 155 AD. Most known for being one of the ‘Fathers of the Church’, he lived through a period of epic growth of the Church in the North African region. His famous quote above was borne out of great persecution, as thousands of believers and followers of The Way were put to death for their commitment to Christ under the ruling Roman army. Later, the invading Arab armies wiped out the remaining struggling church.
Today, Tunisia is 99 percent Islamic. Having been under French control and influence for decades, the country has been deeply influenced by the wealth and prosperity of Europe. This has led to materialism and economic gain being the primary driving goal of the majority of young people. Even before the Arab Spring started in Tunisia, jobs were hard to find, but unemployment and economic hardship has only increased since the Arab Spring. Most Tunisians would say they are Sunni Muslim, but folk Islam (a mix of Islam, magic and animistic beliefs) is part of many of their practices. Due to lack of employment, many young Tunisians have been lured into involvement with ISIS, and fundamental Islam is on the rise.
Today, the small local church is again growing and gaining ground. Growth has been slow, but there is great prayer (hope) for a movement much like that of the early centuries, where thousands and thousands came to know Christ and their lives were transformed. We long to see the depth of commitment of believers as was present in the ancient Church, where “they did not love their lives even unto death” (Rev 12:11).
Please pray…
Pray for powerful encounters with Jesus, and God’s love to be known (as opposed to the strict rules and coldness of Islam). Pray for people to have spiritual deliverance, freedom and both inner and physical healing.
Pray for the local church. God has been moving and drawing Tunisians to Himself but, overall, the church in Tunisia needs unity in order to grow. Pray the believers will be filled with the Holy Spirit to live transformed lives and have powerful testimonies.
Tunisia’s rich Christian heritage lies in ruins of great churches from centuries long ago. Pray these rocks cry out in praise to God and the greatness of his kingdom! Ask God for a return of the strong, great Church for His praise, and that the blood of the martyrs will be a seed for the Tunisian church today.

I will have an afternoon/evening of visiting with my mom and two siblings (separately) who are not speaking to one another. My mom is visiting from out of state with the one sibling. I will have dinner with the other one and my mom. We used to all come to dinner together around my mom, but it seems that is not going to happen anytime soon, if ever. Pray for me to speak words of truth, reconciliation and life to people who desperately need it and that I do not let my own hard feelings rule my mind and/or mouth. The older I get the more thankful for Jesus.

Prayers for Kim and her upcoming surgery.
Continued prayers for my neighbors who are dealing with the insurance company & some substantial needed repairs on their water-damaged desert home that they’ve been working so hard to restore. They spent yesterday taking the pantry apart, trying to see how extensive the damage is and how much flooring needs to be replaced.
