Prayer Requests 6-19-19

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget Ajissun and the folks in The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 119:113-120

ס Samekh

113 I hate double-minded people,
    but I love your law.
114 You are my refuge and my shield;
    I have put my hope in your word.
115 Away from me, you evildoers,
    that I may keep the commands of my God!
116 Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live;
    do not let my hopes be dashed.
117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered;
    I will always have regard for your decrees.
118 You reject all who stray from your decrees,
    for their delusions come to nothing.
119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross;
    therefore I love your statutes.
120 My flesh trembles in fear of you;
    I stand in awe of your laws.

  1. Please pray for my church–for wisdom for the board and congregation and for our pastor and his family. I am not sure the church will survive. I have been waiting to see what God is doing here for quite awhile. It is distressing, to say the least.

  2. I disagree that “God has a plan.” If He did, it would be perfect and the church wouldn’t be in deep doo-doo. He knows what will happen and He loves and cares for His people. The Church will survive, but the church may not.

  3. God, who is sovereign over all, works and fulfills his will in all things that come to pass.

    He is not ‘surprised’ by what happens in our world. I all unfolds under his sovereign will.

    There is a purpose in even the “bad” things we see, do and go through.

  4. I believe He has a plan. He is constantly winnowing His Church, working in the hearts of His people to bring us closer to Him. He allows false teaching, etc, but He also equips us to be aware and to study His Word, and He cautions us to not allow our ears to be tickled. He tells us there will be people who claim to be wise but their wisdom is of this world. He is working out a huge plan, that we only get tiny glimpses of.

  5. Linda, if God isn’t sovereign, we are all in deep trouble, because He’s in over His head as His world spins out of control. Believing that God is sovereign, has a plan, and is working His plan brings great comfort. The book of Job is a good example of that: awful suffering, but all under God’s control, even when He allowed Satan some leeway!

  6. Praying, Kathaleena. I don’t know the situation with your pastor and church, but I understand the need for wisdom in similar church business matters. My childhood church, some years after I left, dealt with a troublesome situation with the pastor by voting to have him removed. Their sister congregation, however, where the pastor also served, kept him on. The two congregations have never shared a pastor since. A messy situation that resulted in some hard feelings at the time, and which may perhaps be lingering.

  7. God’s plan is, in fact, perfect — though we cannot see it on this side of heaven.

    But all of it — within His secret will — works out for our good and His glory.

    Somehow, some way … but, yes, who can fathom?
