  1. Threaten someone, and then pretend you’re the victim.

    THIS is CNN.

“Speech is violence, and vice versa……”

    https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/04/speech-is-violence-and-vice-versa.php

“The apotheosis of the Left’s 21st-Century lunacy is its insistence that disagreeing with leftist dogma–declining to accept the “trans” farce, for example–is “violence” that demands suppression, while actual violence by leftists like Antifa–bashing people in the head with a baseball bat, for instance–is merely free speech exercised by “protesters.” No one in the world, with the possible exception of a handful of mis-educated college professors and students, is dumb enough to be fooled by that inversion. But liberals soldier heedlessly on.

Here is a today’s instance of the phenomenon. April Ryan, a CNN personality, suggested that Sarah Sanders’ head should be “lopped off.” Sanders’ father, Mike Huckabee, protested–whereupon Ryan accused Huckabee of inciting violence against her. You can’t make this stuff up:

  2. Trump is fighting back against the latest fishing expedition.

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2019/04/trump-sues-to-protect-personal-financial-records-from-democrat-house-subpoenas/#more-280768

“The weaponization of the House subpoena power to wage a personal war on a president may not be completely unprecedented, but it does raise important legal issues. To the extent a particular House committee is seeking information, documents and testimony regarding conduct a president engaged in as president or some other political office, that could be considered fair oversight. To the extent a House committee is waging political war on a president’s non-political personal and business finances, particularly for events prior to taking office, that raises substantial privacy concerns.

Trump and various Trump entities have just filed suit in federal court in D.C. seeking to prevent prying into his personal finances. The Complaint (pdf.) is embedded in full at the bottom of this post.”

“5. Chairman Cummings has ignored the constitutional limits on Congress’ power to investigate. Article I of the Constitution does not contain an “Investigations Clause” or an “Oversight Case Clause.” It gives Congress the power to enact certain legislation. Accordingly, investigations are legitimate only insofar as they further some legitimate legislative purpose. No investigation can be an end in itself. And Congress cannot use investigations to exercise powers that the Constitution assigns to the executive or judicial branch.

    6. Chairman Cummings’ subpoena of Mazars lacks a legitimate legislative purpose. There is no possible legislation at the end of this tunnel; indeed, the Chairman does not claim otherwise. With this subpoena, the Oversight Committee is instead assuming the powers of the Department of Justice, investigating (dubious and partisan) allegations of illegal conduct by private individuals outside of government. Its goal is to expose Plaintiffs’ private financial information for the sake of exposure, with the hope that it will turn up something that Democrats can use as a political tool against the President now and in the 2020 election.

    7. Because Chairman Cummings’ subpoena to Mazars threatens to expose Plaintiffs’ confidential information and lacks “a legitimate legislative purpose,” this Court has the power to declare it invalid and to enjoin its enforcement.”

“This will present some interesting legal issues as to the ability of a House committee to seek records that are not directly related to a president’s actions as president. If a House committee can go after personal and business records, what is the limit?

Most presidents would not have the personal financial ability to fight to protect their personal privacy. Trump does, so this case may end up with an unintended consequence of the desire to get Trump — some judicial limitation placed on House committee subpoenas of future presidents.”

  3. Another leftist narrative gets destroyed by the facts of the matter.

The lie that illegals can’t and don’t get govt. benefits.

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/the-cost-of-illegal-immigration-migrants-cost-us-taxpayers-billions-a-year

“Most illegal immigrants in US receive government benefits, costing taxpayers billions: experts”

“This week, the U.S. Supreme Court considers whether to count self-identified illegal immigrants in the 2020 census. Cities worry adding the citizenship question could undercount 6.5 million people. Their argument, however, isn’t just about political power but billions of dollars in federal funds states expect.

The case underscores what experts say is a growing cost to taxpayers from the surge of Central American families and unaccompanied minors.

“We’re talking about billions of dollars in taxpayer benefits over the next few years,” said Dan Stein, director of the right-leaning think tank, Federation for American Immigration Reform. “The payout for the taxpayer is enormous and income to the Treasury is miniscule.”

A FAIR study in 2017 found illegal immigrants are a net consumer of taxpayer benefits worth more than $100 billion a year, not including the cost of enforcing the border.

While federal benefits are supposed to be off limits, in practice many are not. More than 25,000 undocumented workers receive subsidized housing, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Children receive free education and most qualify for English lessons and free school breakfast and lunch.

Illegal immigrants do not qualify for Obamacare but under federal law, hospitals and clinics are required to provide urgent medical care without regard to legal status. Pregnant women are entitled to prenatal and postpartum care under the Women, Infants and Children program. Infant delivery costs are paid for by Medicaid. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found a federal-state immigrant insurance program cost $2 billion a year in emergency treatment, not including the $1.24 billion in infant delivery expenses.

Illegal immigrants are not entitled to food stamps, but families with U.S.-born children are. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 31% of such families use the SNAP program and more than 50% of Central American families in the U.S. use at least one welfare program.

This is especially true of asylum seekers said Art Arthur, a former immigration judge now with the Center for Immigration Studies, an immigration think tank. Arthur said because there is a three to five year lag time between apprehension and court appearance, young asylum seekers put down roots, allowing many to access programs they are initially unaware or afraid to use.”

  4. Overstayed your visa?

    Start packing, avoid the rush.

    https://freebeacon.com/issues/trump-issues-order-to-crack-down-on-visa-overstays/

“Trump Issues Order to Crack Down on Visa Overstays

More than 400,000 thought to have illegally overstayed in 2018 alone”

“President Donald Trump is ordering the Departments of State and Homeland Security to take all steps in their power to reduce the currently hundreds of thousands of people who overstay temporary visas every year.

A presidential memorandum, issued Monday afternoon, instructs the secretaries of State and Homeland Security to outline within 120 days recommendations for how to reduce visa overstays, especially from the 28 countries from which more than 10 percent of arrivals overstay their visas. The memorandum also instructs the secretaries to take all steps currently in their power to cut visa overstays, and orders a review of the visa waiver program.

“What we’re doing here is shutting a backdoor for illegal immigration,” an administration official told the Washington Free Beacon. “This is part of the administration’s comprehensive approach to combating illegal immigration.”

The memorandum instructs DHS and State to take all available actions, but also makes some recommendations of possible courses. These include implementing a bond system, whereby arrivals from high-overstay countries are obliged to put up collateral upon entry. They also include a consideration of the president’s powers under the Immigration and Nationality Act, including sections 215 and 212(f).

Although the administration is focused on high-overstay countries, it will also pursue a review of all temporary visas, including student visas and visas for countries which benefit from the Visa Waiver Program.

Every year, millions of people enter the United States on temporary visas: 54 million in 2018, for example. Each year, some fraction of those people choose to remain in the country past the period of their visa expiry, either leaving after they are expected to or remaining in the country indefinitely. Last year, the Department of Homeland Security estimates, 96,000 people left late (which can incur a ten-year bar from reentry), and 569,000 are thought to have remained in the country.

For comparison, 521,000 people were apprehended illegally crossing the border in 2018, up from 415,000 in the preceding year. In other words, visa overstays outpace illegal border crossing as the leading cause of illegal immigration to the United States.”

  5. Woodward gets it. It’s necessary.

    https://dailycaller.com/2019/04/22/bob-woodward-investigate-dossier/

“Legendary reporter Bob Woodward said Sunday that the FBI and CIA’s reliance on the Steele dossier “needs to be investigated” now that the Mueller report has undercut many of the salacious document’s claims.

Woodward reiterated in an interview with Fox News’s Chris Wallace his past statements that the dossier “has got a lot of garbage in it.”

Woodward said that he recently learned that the CIA included outtakes from the dossier in a draft of the January 2017 intelligence community assessment that laid out Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

“What I found out recently, which was really quite surprising, the dossier, which really has got a lot of garbage in it and Mueller found that to be the case, early in building the intelligence community assessment on Russian interference, in an early draft, they actually put the dossier on page two in kind of a breakout box.”

“I think it was the CIA pushing this. Real intelligence experts looked at this and said no, this is not intelligence, this is garbage and they took it out,” said Woodward.

“But in this process, the idea that they would include something like that in one of the great stellar intelligence assessments, as Mueller also found out, is highly questionable.”

“Obama’s Campaign Paid $972,000 To Law Firm That Secretly Paid Fusion GPS In 2016

Since April of 2016, Obama’s campaign organization has paid nearly a million dollars to the law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS to compile a dossier of unverified allegations against Donald Trump.”

“Former president Barack Obama’s official campaign organization has directed nearly a million dollars to the same law firm that funneled money to Fusion GPS, the firm behind the infamous Steele dossier. Since April of 2016, Obama For America (OFA) has paid over $972,000 to Perkins Coie, records filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show.

The Washington Post reported last week that Perkins Coie, an international law firm, was directed by both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s campaign to retain Fusion GPS in April of 2016 to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to compile a dossier of allegations that Trump and his campaign actively colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Though many of the claims in the dossier have been directly refuted, none of the dossier’s allegations of collusion have been independently verified. Lawyers for Steele admitted in court filings last April that his work was not verified and was never meant to be made public.”

    https://thefederalist.com/2019/04/23/fought-battle-mogadishu-heres-ilhan-omar-gets-wrong-black-hawk/

“Earlier this week, a 2017 tweet from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) surfaced in which she attacked the men who helped defend from starvation and civil war the country she abandoned in the early 1990s. In her tweet, Omar blasted “American forces” for killing “thousands of Somalis” during the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993. “#NotTodaySatan,” Omar wrote.”

    ————————

“Task Force Ranger was the 1993 military effort ordered by President Bill Clinton to capture Aidid and his lieutenants so the U.N. could deliver food and medical aid without fear of being attacked or killed by Aidid’s forces. The American soldiers Omar attacked in her tweet — the men of Task Force Ranger –weren’t sent to Somalia for fame or fortune. They weren’t there because of a deep desire to visit the God-forsaken nation of Somalia. They were deployed to support peacekeepers who were desperate to rescue the country from starvation and the ravages of civil war. To do that, they had to capture the men responsible for it.

By the time Task Force Ranger had been launched, Aidid’s network of drug-addled, Khat-dealing gun runners had taken over Mogadishu and were doing everything they could to oppress any and rival clans, including that of Omar, the Majeerteen. In other words, we were sent halfway across the world to help protect people just like Omar and her family. Nineteen incredible men gave their lives defending her country while serving ours. They deserve to be lauded for their service, not attacked for it.

I am thankful Omar and her family and countless others were able to escape to neighboring Kenya while we fought to protect those left behind, but I simply cannot comprehend her attitude towards those of us who fought to protect her country and countrymen from warlords who plunged Somalia only further into violence and starvation. I am glad that Omar can now enjoy the very freedoms we fought to protect, like the freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion affirmed in the U.S. Constitution, but I don’t understand why she uses those freedoms to slur the men and women of the U.S. military who made her security and liberty a reality.

The simple truth is that Omar enjoys the fruits of American combat deaths, yet she can’t even bring herself to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice that was made on her behalf, either as a Somali or an American. Her clan didn’t stand a chance against Aidid and Habar Gidirs, so I don’t blame her for leaving. But I do blame her for attacking those of us who had zero personal interest or investment in her nation for doing our jobs on behalf of our country. And I blame her for smearing American servicemen because we answered the call of our nation to address the violent barbarism of hers.

Unlike Omar, I’m not a politician. I don’t have power or influence. I don’t have a vote in Congress or the ability to direct America’s foreign policy. I’m just one of the men who strapped it on as a member of Task Force Ranger and went into harm’s way to help bring peace and security to her and her people. And let me tell you, she missed a helluva fight.”

  8. They had it right.

Once again it was Dems and the media who got it wrong.

    https://nypost.com/2019/04/22/sri-lanka-terror-vindicates-pompeo-trump-warnings/

“t was only a few weeks ago that much of the mainstream media was criticizing the Trump administration for the “Christianization” of US foreign policy. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s evangelical faith was widely blamed for the increased focus of American diplomacy on combating the persecution of Christians at the hands of Muslim governments or Islamist terrorists, as well as for its support for Israel.

The administration’s interest in the subject — especially in contrast to the policies of the Obama administration — was denounced as a political payoff to Trump’s Christian conservative voters and an insult to the Muslim world. Such attention fueled, we were told, Islamophobia in the United States and elsewhere.

Some of the same sources were also quick to claim Trump’s focus on persecution of Christians and his so-called “Muslim ban” (which, in fact, only sought to restrict entry from five countries that were acknowledged terrorist hotbeds and did not ban all Muslims) was even somehow linked to last month’s horrifying terror attack at a New Zealand mosque by a lone extremist.

But the coordinated Easter Sunday attacks on hotels and churches across Sri Lanka that have been blamed on radical Islamist suicide bombers from the National Thowheeth Jama’ath group and that took the lives of 290 people and wounded 500 more is a reminder that most acts of international terrorism emanate from sources that can’t be blamed on Trump or isolated right-wingers.

The most pressing threat comes from an international movement that singles out Christians and other non-Muslims for persecution and terror.”

    ——–

“But far from being Islamophobic or a hindrance to America’s ability to combat terror, the willingness of Trump and in particular Pompeo to prioritize the need to aid Christians under attack is a necessary first step toward rolling back this Islamist tide.

Sri Lanka is a wake-up call that makes it clear that Pompeo’s critics are blind to the reality of radical Islamic intolerance and terror and to the need to recognize the plight of persecuted Christians.”

The Trump campaign promised to champion persecuted Christians, but the numbers tell a different story” . . .

“The number of Middle East Christians admitted into the United States in 2018 fell by a staggering 98 percent from 2016. Christians from countries Open Doors ranked highest for religious persecution saw a 76 percent decline from 2016 to 2018. The trend continues in 2019. By March 2019 the United States had welcomed only 30 Iranian Christians, 25 Iraqi Christians, and zero Syrian Christian refugees.”

And again, I have to question the accuracy of the World articles’ numbers.

    https://www.voanews.com/a/us-accepts-record-high-number-christian-refugees/4460670.html

“US Accepts Record-High Percentage of Christian Refugees”

“The United States is accepting an increasingly large share of Christian refugees, primarily from Africa, while the number of total arrivals remains on track for a historic low this fiscal year, federal data show.

With three-quarters of the fiscal year over, and amid massive cuts to the U.S. refugee program under the Trump administration, nearly 68 percent of arriving refugees this fiscal year are Christian — a 16-year high, according to State Department statistics reviewed by VOA. Prior to this year, the highest proportion was in fiscal 2007, at 60 percent.

Of the 16,229 refugees admitted from Oct. 1 to June 28, 10,949 were Christians – primarily from DRC, Ukraine, and Burma.

But researchers and advocates are quick to highlight that while Christian refugees hit a historic high proportionally, the number of Christians, Muslims and people of all other religions are low compared with previous years.”

    World Relief.

Who has a financial stake in this?

    Again, World Relief.

    https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2017/march/trump-revised-refugee-travel-ban-persecuted-christians.html

“Christians fleeing the Middle East will not take first priority under an updated version of President Donald Trump’s executive order on travel and refugees, which he signed Monday morning after weeks of debate and holdups in federal court.

The new order does away with explicit language about prioritizing religious minorities, as well as loosens Trump’s initial limits on who’s allowed to enter the United States.

Current visa holders, refugees already granted asylum, and travelers from Iraq no longer face restrictions, and the indefinite ban on refugees from Syria was reduced to 120 days—same as the overall refugee population. The executive order goes into place next Thursday.”

    ————–

““The issuance of a new executive order on refugees and immigrants acknowledges that there were significant problems with the first executive order that caught up green card holders and others as they tried to enter the United States,” said Tim Breene, CEO of World Relief, the evangelical refugee resettlement agency forced to close five offices and lay off 140 employees in the wake of Trump’s decision to halve America’s intake of refugees from 110,000 to 50,000.

“However, this new executive order does not solve the root problems with the initial order—the cutting of refugee admissions by 55 percent and the inability for some of the world’s most vulnerable refugees to come to the United States. It is more of the same.””

    —————

““The US has a right to control who enters our country and to keep out those who seek to do us harm,” tweeted Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, which regularly advocates for persecuted Christians.

During an hour-long radio response Monday afternoon, Sekulow described Trump’s revised order as a more legally sound means of securing the aims of the President’s original directive. “As far as admitting minority religious refugees that are not protected, you can do that under the law and under this exemption,” he said. “It has a case-by-case review, which is exactly what we said is the way this goes forward.”
