“Left To State Supreme Court Candidate: You Can’t Be A Good Judge Because You’re A Christian
Judge Brian Hagedorn is being publicly trashed for being on the board of a small Christian school, and for blog posts when he was in law school discussing court cases about abortion and gay sex.”
“With six weeks left until election day in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race, several far-left organizations are using media outlets to amplify a smear campaign against a judge based on his Christianity. Brian Hagedorn, a current Wisconsin Court of Appeals judge and former Scott Walker legal counsel, is being publicly trashed for being on the board of a small Christian school, and for blog posts when he was in law school discussing court cases about abortion and gay sex.
In considering a run for the state Supreme Court, the father of five children says, “I expected to be attacked here because that’s what’s happening all across the country–you know, ‘Are you now or have you ever been associated with the Knights of Columbus?’” he said, chuckling. “Interrogating people [nominated for office] if they went to a Bible study or the Knights of Columbus, that’s where we are as a country.””
“It’s too early to take away any clear lessons from the Trump era, except one: Whatever you do, never fire the FBI director.
Yes, as president, it is fully within your power to cashier inferior executive branch officers. But if the aftermath of the James Comey firing is any indication, it risks backlash from FBI and Justice Department officials who will take umbrage — and extraordinary steps in response.
This is the upshot of the “60 Minutes” interview with former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. The Comey firing was ham-fisted and unsettling, given the ongoing investigation of Russian interference into the 2016 election. But what ensued was an embarrassing freak-out by law enforcement officials entrusted with awesome powers.”
“According to McCabe, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein brought up invoking the 25th Amendment.
It is worth considering how this Rube Goldberg amendment is supposed to work: The vice president takes power if he and a majority of the cabinet declare in writing to the Senate and the House that the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
Then the president can contest the declaration, also in writing to the Senate and the House. If the veep and a majority of the cabinet still say he can’t serve, Congress has 21 days to vote on the question. If two-thirds of both chambers say he can’t, the vice president remains acting president.
Anyone who believes that this was a remotely plausible or appropriate means to depose Trump should have his own ability to discharge his duties examined.
First of all, Trump obviously was perfectly capable of discharging his duties; he just discharged them in a way alarming to McCabe and Rosenstein. His response to an effort by his cabinet to join such an exercise would have been to fire anyone involved, which he could have done because, again, he wasn’t incapacitated.
McCabe also says that Rosenstein twice discussed wearing a wire to record the president and wasn’t joking. (A source told The New York Times when it originally broke the story that Rosenstein meant it sarcastically; his own denials have been carefully worded.)
The FBI didn’t go this far, but it did open, per McCabe, two probes into the president to determine if he was a Russian agent or had obstructed justice.
Consider the lunacy of this: By providing Trump with a memo justifying Comey’s firing, Rosenstein participated in the scheme that the FBI considered a possible crime or the culmination of a Russian plot.
Then, Rosenstein turned around and appointed a special counsel, whom he oversaw, to investigate the possible crime to which he was a party.”
CNN joins the chorus of news outlets predicting that Bob Mueller will wind up his investigation imminently:
Attorney General Bill Barr is preparing to announce as early as next week the completion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, with plans for Barr to submit to Congress soon after a summary of Mueller’s confidential report, according to people familiar with the plans.
The preparations are the clearest indication yet that Mueller is nearly done with his almost two-year investigation.
I assume these reports are more or less accurate. CNN tries to save face by going on at length about the various investigations that will be continued by other federal prosecutors, but there is no disguising the real point: Mueller’s investigation has fizzled out.
Mueller’s central conclusion–the only one that most people care about–must be that there is no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to influence the 2016 presidential race, and much evidence to the contrary. Mueller may try to blur the obvious with harsh words about some of President Trump’s associates, but he can’t change the fact that he looked high and low for evidence of collusion, and couldn’t find any.”
William Weld has offered a glimmer of hope to NeverTrumpers. But many Republicans once opposed to the president are jumping on his 2020 bandwagon.”
Does the announcement by William Weld, the former Republican governor of Massachusetts, that he’s exploring a primary challenge against President Trump offer new hope for the NeverTrump cause? The motley collection of neoconservatives, libertarians, moderate Republicans and social conservatives who couldn’t stomach Mr. Trump’s personal behavior is back in the headlines, if not in reality.
But in most politically meaningful ways, the NeverTrump movement has disintegrated. It’s now the political equivalent of a doomed exotic species, attracting a lot of stares from bystanders, but no longer playing much of a role in the actual biosphere.
As a Republican strategist and NeverTrumper myself, I speak from inside the belly of the beast. Mr. Weld’s announcement offers a glimmer, but I see little chance that conservatives disillusioned with President Trump will revive NeverTrump as an actual movement.”
“The court’s 9-0 ruling was authored by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. “The Eighth Amendment’s Excessive Fines Clause is an incorporated protection applicable to the States under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause,” Ginsburg wrote, later adding that “Protection against excessive fines has been a constant shield throughout Anglo-American history for good reason: Such fines undermine other liberties […] The historical and logical case for concluding that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Excessive Fines Clause is indeed overwhelming.””

JUST IN: "'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career," Chicago PD Superintendent Eddie Johnson says. https://t.co/5AiMcfe6iHpic.twitter.com/nOOhk0e8YD
Something for the judge to keep in mind at sentencing.
Judge hearing #JessieSmollett evidence said “if the statement read to me is true it is utterly outrageous. The most despicable thing about this is the noose.” The judge called that a depiction of “evil”.
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.
To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention. https://t.co/EwXFxl5f2m
“Coast Guard Lt. Charged with Planning Terror Attack Targeting Dems, Journalists, Others
Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson allegedly intended ‘to Murder Innocent Civilians on a Scale Rarely Seen in’ America”
“Authorities arrested US Coast Guard Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson “last week on weapons and drugs charges.” The motion for pretrial detention revealed horrific details like how intended “to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.”
The federal prosecutors described him as a “domestic terrorist” and “white nationalist” who kept a hit list of journalists and Democratic lawmakers.
From Yahoo! News:
Per the court document, Hasson has been serving as an acquisitions officer at the Coast Guard’s D.C. headquarters since June of 2016. Though he has not received any tactical, weapons or explosives-related training in this position, the prosecutors note that Hasson served in the Marine Corps from 1988 to 1993, followed by approximately two years of active duty with the Army National Guard. When authorities raided his residence earlier this month, they found 15 firearms and over 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition, the document says. His detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Greenbelt, Md. According to a separate court filing signed Feb. 15, Hasson will be represented by a public defender.
—
Prosecutors stated that since 2017 Hasson has “routinely perused” the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, a far-right Norwegian terrorist who killed 77 people in two attacks in 2011. Hasson followed the instructions of the document, which tell “a prospective assailant to amass appropriate firearms, food, disguises, and survival supplies.”
Hasson listed his targets on January 17. He included “Sen blumen jew,” which probably meant Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and “poca warren,” which probably meant Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
Yahoo! News listed more:
There are also references to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a long list of additional Democratic senators, including Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Tim Kaine, D-Va. The list also includes likely references to a number of House members (Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.), television hosts (Joe Scarborough and Chris Hayes of MSNBC, Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo of CNN), former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas and the Democratic Socialists of America.
Hasson also googled “what if trump illegally impeached” and “civil war if trump impeached.” He looked up places to see lawmakers in DC and tried to find their addresses. He attempted to look up “pro-Russian, neo-fascist and neo-Nazi literature.”
Recovered emails offered a chilling picture of Hasson’s thinking. “
Good.
Let her rot where she is. Aiding and abetting terrorists should come with a steep penalty.
