Prayer Requests 12-10-18

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 19:33-48

ה He

33 Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,
that I may follow it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.
35 Direct me in the path of your commands,
    for there I find delight.
36 Turn my heart toward your statutes
    and not toward selfish gain.
37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
38 Fulfill your promise to your servant,
so that you may be feared.
39 Take away the disgrace I dread,
    for your laws are good.
40 How I long for your precepts!
In your righteousness preserve my life.

ו Waw

41 May your unfailing love come to me, Lord,
    your salvation, according to your promise;
42 then I can answer anyone who taunts me,
for I trust in your word.
43 Never take your word of truth from my mouth,
for I have put my hope in your laws.
44 I will always obey your law,
    for ever and ever.
45 I will walk about in freedom,
for I have sought out your precepts.
46 I will speak of your statutes before kings
and will not be put to shame,
47 for I delight in your commands
    because I love them.
48 I reach out for your commands, which I love,
that I may meditate on your decrees.

  1. I’d like to request prayer for my sister-in-law’s dad. He fell on the ice late last month and hit his head hard on the cement. He was hospitalized for eight days, then entered a care center in his area. My SIL is an only child, living about an hour away from her parents, and is helping her mom take care of finances and other household matters. She will also be meeting soon with her dad’s care team to find out more about his condition. She writes “He looks like he has aged 20 years since the fall. He is still having severe head pain and he is in a wheel chair. Really upsetting to see him so diminished…So many details to think about my head is swimming.”

They could all use prayers: SIL “T,”, her dad “B,” her mom “M.”

    Thanks.

  2. Feeling bummed today by some tension between Nightingale and me that happened yesterday. She misinterpreted a question of mine, thinking that I was hinting at something rather than it merely being an honest question (which it was). But what she said alerted me to how I need to change a certain way I sometimes talk to her or ask questions.

She seems to be overly sensitive to any comment or question that can seem like I am “questioning” her, doubting her wisdom to do something right. That is not my intention, nor my thoughts, but she misinterprets certain things that way, so I need to be extra-careful about how I word things.

This reminds me of some trouble I would get into with Hubby. He would be doing something, and out of curiosity, I would ask him why he was doing it that way. He would interpret my curiosity as “questioning” him, as if I was doubting that he was doing it right. But I wasn’t thinking that at all! I wanted to know how his method worked. We finally got that straightened out between us, but it probably took years for us to recognize what was going on in those exchanges.

Anyway, please pray that Nightingale will forgive me for any real or perceived verbal offenses, and for wisdom for me in my conversations with her. Also, that she will recognize that she is sometimes overly sensitive to certain things, and learn to let them go. Thank you.

  3. Last day of school today. I had trouble sleeping last night so woke up slightly late. I leave tomorrow morning with a 6am pickup. I will spend tomorrow night in Brisbane and then on Thursday I arrive in LA before I leave Brisbane. Confused yet??

  4. Trying really hard to be thankful . . . what is it they say about Satan tipping his hand?

I could use a little encouragement right now, it’s been a discouraging day with this back and one thing after another falling apart leading up to Poppy’s party tonight. Insurance calling to deny an eye exam on Monday feels pretty over the top!

Nothing seems to have gone right today–though I wrote the Christmas letter . . . 🙂

I’d just like this all to be over now . . . joy is fleeing away . . . but I have a dentist appointment at 8 tomorrow morning! LOL

  5. Lots to pray for.

I’ve been feeling out of whack with this knee bang-up, though grateful no serious injury seemed to have resulted. I did rest some today but went to pick up some ibuprofen at the drug store (thought I had some in the house but didn’t), then stopped in for groceries and really was up and around more than I should have been. And I hate the brace, how uncomfortable that is … I’m not a good patient.

And this holiday season seems off to me in general, part of it is missing the neighbor/friend I lost a couple months ago so quickly to cancer; we often connected around Christmas decorating ideas. I’m sad not seeing her ground floor ‘balcony’ rail all decked out with her string of Christmas lights this year. Seems like they are busy getting the apartment to rent out, of course. Looks like they replaced her old casement windows (like mine) with new windows already. At least they’re somewhat the same style.

Kizzie, speaking of my neighbor/friend (and what you said about the interaction with Nightingale), I had similar sensitive areas with her. I finally figured out a few years ago that she took any disagreeing opinions very personally (I don’t particularly — I’m talking about politics, theology, etc.). I wound up being very careful not to ever take issue with her opinions but to respond as neutrally as I could. It helped, but the relationship always had a bit of a strain to it for those reasons. 😦

So much of getting along requires figuring out other people and how they react to certain things, then adjusting our words or behavior to avoid or at least soften those potential collisions. It can be so tricky.

  6. My mom could be quite insensitive and sharp-tongued towards others, but was quite prickly herself. I loved her (of course) and we could have some very good times together, but I had to be careful, walking on eggshells around her.

  7. I am happy to report that, of the three snow ball fights I became engaged in today, only one brought a snowball into my face and with the new glasses, the lens did not pop out! The snowball fights? They were not my fault. Well, okay, I may have thrown the first one each time but they are the ones that kept it going. Well, I might have thrown a few more….But there was snow, you see, and it was just right for fluffy snowballs…And we had warm gloves and boots and well, it just happens, what can I say.
