Prayer Requests 7-5-18

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 120

I call on the Lord in my distress,
    and he answers me.
Save me, Lord,
    from lying lips
    and from deceitful tongues.

What will he do to you,
    and what more besides,
    you deceitful tongue?
He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,
with burning coals of the broom bush.

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar!
Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
I am for peace;
but when I speak, they are for war.

  1. Please say a prayer for my friend Walter and his wife, Eileen. He is to have surgery today. They have no children, and most of their family has passed. I know they are frightened, as the surgery is for cancer. Really, all they have is each other, and a host of friends that they elected not to tell. He told me and one other friend, swearing us to secrecy. Miguel and I plan to go to Albuquerque this morning after I get home from work to spend time with them in the hospital, and give some support.

They were so good to us when Miguel got hurt, that I hope we can return a fraction of the kindness shown to us.

  2. Just heard from X’s Mom that he is back in the hospital. I am assuming it is for the same problem as last time, trying to balance his meds correctly.

The Boy is disappointed, as he was supposed to finally have some time with his dad this afternoon.

  3. Sorry for the boy, Kizzie. Mental illness does effect so many people besides the one with it. I hope they find the right balance soon. I also hope he is not drinking or using other meds that interfere in anyway. I have seen that, too.

  4. Nightingale says it is very common for certain mentally ill people to stop taking their medication, or to mess around with other stuff.

This may sound melodramatic, but the thought that popped into my head the other night was that I could imagine X trying to make a statement by using a gun against Nightingale or me or both of us, and maybe even his own son. And then maybe turning it on himself, feeling like he is “going out in a blaze of glory”, so to speak.

It’s not that I think the mentally ill are more prone to that kind of violence than the average person (I don’t). But X is also a narcissist, and they tend to do things to get attention. Sadly, I think many of the mass shootings we hear about, and other shootings we don’t hear about, are at least partially caused by the shooter knowing he will get lots of attention.

It was an alarming thought when it popped into my mind, but I put my family and myself, and X, into God’s hands.
