Prayer Requests 2-13-18

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 7:1-9

1 Lord my God, I take refuge in you;
    save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
2 or they will tear me apart like a lion
    and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.

3 Lord my God, if I have done this
    and there is guilt on my hands—
4 if I have repaid my ally with evil
    or without cause have robbed my foe—
5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake me;
    let him trample my life to the ground
    and make me sleep in the dust.

6 Arise, Lord, in your anger;
    rise up against the rage of my enemies.
    Awake, my God; decree justice.
7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you,
    while you sit enthroned over them on high.
8     Let the Lord judge the peoples.
   Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness,
    according to my integrity, O Most High.
9 Bring to an end the violence of the wicked
    and make the righteous secure—
   you, the righteous God
    who probes minds and hearts.

  1. Praise as we have had several good days with daughter.
    Prayer for son who brought his D down to an F yesterday and is no longer eligible for baseball. He tends to beat himself up over that and I would like him to turn it over to God and respond accordingly.

  2. DJ–Just want you to know you are in my prayers. My husband went through many, many lay-offs. It is difficult in many ways. You are right that you learn much and can grow much in your faith. Empathy for others in this and similar situations grows, too.

  6. You know how God keeps bringing good out of evil? Isn’t it neat how God has provided for Kizzie, knowing the number of Lee’s days, and allowing Daughter to be in a situation to help?

  7. Potential family heartbreak here. Cannot go into details but if the Lord prompts please pray for Michelle’s family. He, of course, has planned all this from the beginning of time. It just will take a while for the rest of us to adjust.

  9. Mumsee – I have thought about that a lot (that Nightingale is here with me), and am so very grateful! There are also some crucial details that Hubby happened to take care of shortly before he died. One of those was putting together, within a couple months of dying, a folder with the life insurance info and his passwords to various accounts of his.

    Remember that whole thing about our home equity line of credit having run out of time, and the remainder needing to be rolled into a home loan? He/we finished all that just a couple months before his death. I don’t think they would have given the loan to me on my own, with no income, and we would have lost the house.

    Yes, God is taking care of me. May my daughters and grandson (for as much as he may understand) have eyes to see that, and not pass it all off as mere circumstances or coincidences.

  10. One thing that makes me sad for Nightingale is that she is no longer in a position to further her studies for her RN degree. But she is still determined to eventually pursue that degree, even if she has to wait a few (or several?) years.

  12. Thanks, Cheryl. Prayers for P &S, the daughter and son-in-law of one of my Bible study ladies. At 40, they were planning to adopt a baby girl due last week through a reputable adoption agency.

    They were pretty confident and had made plans to drive south this week to get her. Nursery beautifully done, car seat in car. Husband of the mother was in prison, it was unclear if the child was even his. It looked a strong possibility for a couple who had exhausted every other means.

    It turned out to be a scam. The mom passed all the money on to the husband (in prison?) and P is beyond heartbroken and very angry. My lovely Bible study lady (remember, we were studying anger today), said this is the hardest thing she’s ever gone through and really struggled with the lesson because of what just happened to her child.

    We were all so very sad and stopped the study specifically to pray for this couple.

  14. Cheryl – Nightingale had been enrolled to begin classes this past September, but in August, before we even knew what was going to happen with Hubby, she realized that she needed to put her time into working more hours. I can’t remember exactly what led to that.

    I know there have been, and are, single moms who work full-time and go to school, too. But for now, even more than being an RN, Nightingale wants to be involved in her son’s life, such as having him in sports he likes (currently wrestling) and Cub Scouts, for the male influence as well as the physical benefits.

    There is also the matter of her schedule. She takes shifts whenever she can get them, which means she doesn’t have any specific days or blocks of time when she can guarantee being free for classes.

    I pray and hope that either God will open an opportunity for her to continue her nursing education sometime in the future, or he will bless her in her current level, as an LPN. She does enjoy her job, and is good at it. The nursing supervisor recently retired and wrote Nightingale a note (in reply to a lovely note Nightingale had written to her) about what a good nurse she is, and what a delight she was to work with.

  15. We have our dental appointments tomorrow. Please pray that my tooth will come out cleanly and easily, without any problem. (Nightingale is only getting a filling, I think, but you can pray that’ll go well, too, if you like. 🙂 )

  16. Is it possible to take one online nursing class at a time until she needs to do clinicals?

    My daughter, BTW, took a 4-6 week EMT class and has been working ever since. No college degree needed. That might be a possibility with weekend classes?

  17. I’m not sure about the online option. I think I asked her that a while back, and there was a reason against it, but I could be mistaken. I’ll ask again.

    She is currently working as an LPN, having taken that two-year course a couple years ago. (Remember, an LPN can do almost everything an RN can do, but the things that only RNs can do is what earns them the bigger bucks.) But again, any weekend classes would be out because of her schedule. The only regularly scheduled shifts she has are on Sunday one weekend and Saturday night the next. But she fills in with other shifts that she arranges for before a month begins, and often picks up more as a month goes on. Somehow, she usually manages to get close to full-time work that way.

  19. Kizzie, wouldn’t it make more sense financially for her to devote enough of her schedule to at least one class at a time until she is finished and just work a little less than full-time? Does she have access to a job that pays for schooling? (Our daughter who is pursuing nursing has found access to such jobs in a couple of states, and she doesn’t have her LPN yet.) Or can she simply not afford to work less than 40 hours, even if it would pay for itself in the long run?
