  1. Good super blue moon morning from Atlanta. Maybe we will catch a glimpse of it en route. We got home around 9 p.m. and are getting ready to go back for more. Have a good day for rejoicing in the Lord and His many blessings. Tax time is a time to give thanks for lean or plenty.

  8. Good Morning. I came in to the office early today armed with cans of Lysol spray and Clorox wipes. I have an agent who was in the office Monday after leaving the doctor’s office. She had been home with the flu but now the doctor thinks she has pneumonia. Great!
    On my way in I skipped around on the radio and this song came on Willie’s Roadhouse (Old Country) and a little while later on 50’s on 5. I don’t look for signs and the voice of God but every now and then when coincidences happen I figure I might ought to pay attention, just like whenever Big John by Jimmy Dean comes on the radio, I think of my father and say out loud, “How ya doin’ Jim Bob”
    You might not like the voice but listen to the words

  9. I’ve been up a couple hours watching the moon turn red. Can’t seem to get a decent photo with my IPhone, however.

    Awe-inspiring . . . The heaven’s are telling the glory of God . . .

    But I always wonder what people thought/think who don’t know why the moon is disappearing and turning red.

  12. Our local radio station said we could see a rare moon in three phases this morning, red, blue and super, but it was cloudy so why tell us?

  13. I was surprised to get a glimpse of the eclipse early this morning. It was through a bunch of pines, so not a real good view. I used binoculars, but they couldn’t see through the trees anymore than I could. 😀

  16. Got up at three to check the skies but bright out. Woke up at four and noticed it was darker, so got up and it was a beautiful clear night sky, filled with stars and the full moon just getting shadowed. A couple of children joined me and we watched until the moon disappeared completely. I tried the phone thing but even with just a sliver, the phone kept recording the full moon. We also looked at a planet with a lot of moons, through the telescope.

    The heavens declare the Glory of the Lord, indeed!

    Then, when I went to feed the sheep, I found that little Luna had arrived during the eclipse. Nice topper to the show.

  17. No lunar eclipse for me. Exhausted is the word to describe me last night. Cold was another word to describe me. All the city buses seemed off schedule yesterday, meaning I had to walk or wait in the cold for the next bus, so I did see the moon as I walked across a darkened empty lot on my way to catch a bus to my evening class.

    Second sibling & family are moved in with my parents. I keep expecting a text or a call that the baby is born, as Second has been experiencing labour pains on and off since Sunday, but I think she is too are exhausted from the move, which, of course, took more time than expected (last load brought yesterday). It wasn’t the best idea to move and have a baby at the same time, but their landlord was going to raise the rent starting in February, so they wanted to get out before then.

  18. The most tired I ever felt was moving at 8 months pregnant with two other boys.

    I remember sitting on the floor at Bible study the next morning aching everywhere and wanting just to lie down and sleep. Prayers for your sister, for sure.

  19. I got up to check if my driveway had blown in (yes, it had) and got to see the moon in almost full eclipse. The dogs were pretty excited to have me outside with them in the cold – that doesn’t happen too often.

    I’m so thankful for our neighbours. The grader went by at 8:30 and the neighbour came with his tractor at 9 and cleared it all out.

  22. I remember that move! A DITY move, from Idaho to Maryland. My first experience being east of Idaho in my whole life. The humidity was painful. Two little boys with us and a girl arriving in mid July, we moved at the beginning of June. Drove across the country. I don’t miss it, but it was an adventure at the time!

  29. Mumsee! 😆 We aren’t even to the halfway mark of sixteen with the boys, never mind the girls!

    It will shortly become even more uneven, as Youngest is expecting another boy in March. Her family will then be evenly distributed with two girls and two boys, and Second is now equal with one girl and one boy, but Eldest would have to have three more children of the female sex in order to even out the unequal distribution of her one girl to four boys. As she is in her late 30s, I think that is unlikely.
    I just find it interesting because, of course, we were a family of four girls and no boys. All of my siblings’ eldest children have been girls, and Youngest’s second was also a girl, but they have collectively, though not individually, had more boys than girls.

  30. I spent the entire day doing nothing.
    I took Elvera to the Adult Center, as I always do on Wednesday. Signed her in and went out and started the car.
    A lady ran out and said Elvera fell.
    I went in and Elvera was sprawled out on the concrete floor.. I asked if she was ok. She said, “Yes, help me up”
    But the people who run the center would have none of that. ‘Stay there while we call 911.’
    They sent an ambulance. She has a knot on her head, but feels ok. “Help me get up”
    But the ambulance people would have none of that. They put her in the ambulance and took her to the hospital.
    The hospital did what hospitals do. We got there about 4 hours while they ran tests.
    But she is ok. She has a know on her head and a black eye. Otherwise fine.

    We are fortunate. Lots of old people suffer greatly from falls.

    @ 8:57. If you listen critically, you can see the Acuff is talking about other Christian denominations and Pentecostals, Likely the Church of God.
    I don’t remember the joke. But on the Opry years ago, Roy was telling a joke. It had to do with some woman responding to an altar call to trust Jesus for salvation.’
    Everyone at the Opry thought it was funny.
    Nowadays, many wouldn’t know what he was talking about. ,

  32. I found a way to make photo cards that I can buy at a reasonable enough price that I can sell them and make a profit. This isn’t something I plan to do tomorrow, but I have been looking for a way to do it, and I have found it. So here is a question for those of you who buy cards. Let’s say I was to sell a set of ten cards (perhaps two each of five different bird shots), and you were looking to buy them. Would you prefer a set of ten cards that were blank inside (other than possibly a simple design, but with no sentiment) or a set that had some with pre-written sentiments (for instance thank you, congratulations, thinking about you, and happy birthday) and some blank, or all with pre-designed sentiments? I personally lean toward either all blank or half with sentiments, simply because there is always the time you need to write the condolence card or something else, but some people won’t use many “sorry for your loss” cards and I would hate to put the same number of those as something else.

    So I guess to make it easier to vote, if you were buying a set of ten cards, would you prefer

    A. ten blank cards, leaving you to write your own sentiments
    B. a set of ten cards with five blank and two happy birthday, one thinking about you, one thank you, and one congratulations
    C. ten cards with the same sentiments as B but also with one “sorry about your loss” in place of a birthday one
    D. ten cards with two each happy birthday and thank you, one congratulations, one thinking about you, one “sorry about your loss,” and three blank cards?
    E. a set with sentiments on all of them
    F. something else

    If I were selling to a specifically Christian audience, I would include “Thinking about you and praying for you,” but I can’t make that assumption. I could do a set of Christmas cards if the idea goes anywhere, since I have quite a few photos that are decently Christmassy (such as cardinals in snow or holly), but for the moment I’m more inclined to put together sets that have some matted prints, some post cards, maybe a magnet or two, and some note cards, and also to sell matted prints and note cards separately (not in a big all-inclusive package). I will probably start with peacocks and then cardinals. . . .

  34. Thankful Elvera wasn’t seriously hurt, Chas. It is good that she was thoroughly checked out, as the worst head injuries are also some of the most invisible. My grandmother had a brain bleed after a fall that seemed to yield only bruises at first – thankfully, she recovered, and is still going strong.

  36. Why is it that the subjects I’m studying are reinforced by real life examples at the same time? I have to do a write-up about heart failure for class on Friday, and I just learned yesterday that a well loved member of the city church died suddenly of the condition. That happened last year when my grandmother had a brain bleed – the class was talking about hemorrhagic strokes and aneurysms of the brain the day after I learned about it.

    On behalf of the board of directors of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, I want to express my sadness, frustration and dismay at news of widespread layoffs of reporters, editors and photographers at newspapers under the Southern California News Group umbrella.

    These 11 intensely local newspapers cover communities stretching from the San Fernando Valley to San Bernardino and Orange County. Even before these layoffs, their coverage had been reduced significantly. After this latest round of cuts, we fear they will be forced to scale back even further, eliminating much-needed coverage of their elected representatives and local government agencies.

    Their role as watchdog is being stripped away.

    What is happening at the Southern California News Group should be a cause for alarm for anyone who values our civic culture. People often complain about unresponsive, unaccountable local government and vanishing local news is a large part of why this is able to occur.

    We urge the public to show their support for journalists by subscribing to their local newspaper, and push for the kind of newsgathering they want to see.

    The Society of Professional Journalists maintains that an informed public is the foundation of democracy. This is what is at stake when we no longer have a robust staff of journalists and photographers reporting on our communities and cities.

I just remembered something I was going to say in the post about the distribution of my nieces and nephews: My father has joked that he needs a few more grandchildren so that at least one is born in each month of the year. There are overlaps, so despite my parents having ten grandchildren, only seven months have a grandchild’s birthday. The latest edition just made the January slot, and there is one in February, one in May, two in June, two in July, two in August, and one in October. The one coming in March should fill that slot, so we just need one in April, September, November, and December 🙂

    No birthdays the first three and a half months of the year, but after that we missed only September (and barely missed it, since one brother was born October 1 and we already had an October slot filled). We each had our own birth month except that two months had someone on the first and another someone on the 14th.

    I cannot begin to keep track of all the birthdays of the next two generations; sometimes I don’t even know a niece or nephew has a baby on the way until I see a photo of the new little one. In one case I knew who the parents were only because only one of my nephews in that family was married. (In other words, my brother was expecting his first grandchild but none of the rest of us knew that until the baby had been born.) For all I know there might be babies born on the same day in different branches of the family. But in ours, we kept all our birthdays distinct.

  46. In my immediate family (parents, siblings, & I) there are three birthdays in September and one in November, so if my father counted us, those would be covered; but the object is to have the grandchildren’s birthdays distributed throughout the year 😉

    Speaking of repeats, my father’s second name has been given a second time as a second name to one of his grandsons. I like the name a lot, so I can understand why my siblings decide to use it (there are no repeats in first names), but if I ever have a son, I’ll have to use a linguistic variant of it just to change things up – I think I prefer the Middle Eastern variant, although the Scottish variant is quite nice too. All who know my father call him by a shortened version of his second name, while his first name is nearly unknown (it creates some confusion when people who know him by name see his official records for some reason); so we all associate the kind of man he is with his second name.

  49. Two of my nephews have the same first name, and my oldest brother and I have Dad’s and Mom’s (first) names as our middle names, respectively. But other than that, in a family chockful of boys, we have no repetition of names. (Well, we have James as both first name and middle name among the nephews, but no duplication of first names.)

    In our family, we have a niece, nephew, and granddaughter all born on August 9. I think we hit all the months with birthdays.
