Prayer Requests 11-28-17

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 112

Praise the Lord.

   Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
    who find great delight in his commands.

Their children will be mighty in the land;
    the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in their houses,
    and their righteousness endures forever.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
    for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
    who conduct their affairs with justice.

Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
    they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news;
    their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
    in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,
    their righteousness endures forever;
    their horn will be lifted high in honor.

10 The wicked will see and be vexed,
    they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
    the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

  1. I had a message last night that L was doing well.

    Kizzie, I read your message last night about Chickadee. I compare you situation in some ways to mine. What I had to do was let go. Hold on loosely. You’ve nicknamed her after a bird—let her go. I am not saying it is easy. You’ve heard my pleas here. I am giving you the benefit of the couple of thousand dollars I have spent on therapy (from Christian therapists I might add).
    Don’t ask for anything of her. Perhaps there is an after school program that Little Boy could attend to give you some relief. He would probably enjoy the extra play time that children so seldom get in school these days.
    There are ways to make it work.

    Not only did BG speak to Mr P 4 times over this past holiday but he told me yesterday she hugged him when she told him good bye Thursday night.
    There is hope.

  2. Kim – I have basically let go of any expectations of her, except perhaps for her to do what she is paid for. Whether she keeps childsitting with me or not (& it is her choice, which I reiterated to her not too long ago), she needs God to do a mighty work in her. She is on powerful meds (Nightingale says the dose of anti-depressant she is on is very high), but we don’t see much of an improvement. She can’t handle frustrations very well at all, & still has anxieties. She sometimes gets inordinately angry at The Boy, especially if she didn’t sleep well the night before.

    After an angry outburst, she will hide herself away for a while, & then she will be fine – even good – for a while, like last night. After getting very angry at The Boy, & yelling at him (he was giving us trouble about going to bed), she disappeared for a while. When she reappeared, she was ready to deal with him again, & she is the one who finally got him to settle down.

    So, I have to give her credit for that, but the part that comes before can be quite stressful for all of us. Thankfully, this is not an every-time-we-childsit thing, but it is often enough. I never know which Chickadee is gonna show up.

    (As for The Boy last night, I think it was partially my fault that he was having so much trouble. I had neglected to have a period of transition from play to bedtime, & he really needs that transition, as do many of us.)

  3. Kizzie, praying. And yes, the bedtime routine is very important. When our kids were about that age we started reading the Narnia Chronicles to them – a chapter every night and then devotions, prayer and tuck in. Very helpful for calming and prepping them to stay in bed and fall asleep quickly. I realize you probably can’t do the devotions and prayer thing, but maybe reading a continuing story each night might help in the routine.

  4. We too read to the kids before bedtime…then prayer. There were times one or two of the kiddos just could not focus upon listening to a book being read…those were the times we listened to Adventues in Odyssey…by the end of the program said kiddos were fast asleep 💤

  5. We do usually read to him before bed. I don’t know what happened last night. Maybe because he was supposed to go to bed early the time got away from us.

    I don’t think Nightingale would allow Adventures in Odyssey, but I might introduce him to the Narnia stories.

  6. Reading was always something we did before bedtime. When the children were older, they were allowed to read quietly for awhile before turning out the light. Some of my grandchildren listen to Adventures in Odyssey or other Christian dvds or radio dramas. Some listen to music. Children are all different and have such different needs. CBD has some wonderful dramas. Most are for a bit older.

  7. Kizzie–don’t forget it is always darkest before the dawn. Preachers have often seen the worst behavior in those who are shortly to see the Light. She has a lot of people praying for her.

  8. Thank you, Kathaleena. I appreciate those prayers so very much.

    The Boy has a touch of bronchitis. He says his tummy still doesn’t feel good, but he’s been able to eat, & hasn’t thrown up since this morning.

  9. We had some stories on tape, now would be CD, about musical composers that were really good and had nice classical music. Those might work for him and mom.
    Beethoven Lives Upstairs is the name of one of them.

  10. Just to reiterate: It’s not that we haven’t had a bedtime routine – we do. It’s that last night I let the time get away from me, & tried to get him to settle down for bed without the usual transition.
