  1. 😦 Colonoscopy (yuck)

    🙂 Good results

🙂 🙂 🙂 Son, 20, and Daughter, 25, both started college at Eastern Michigan University this week. They had been six years apart in school. Son took a gap year after high school. Daughter took a gap year that turned into seven while we tried to untangle her chronic illnesses. It is wonderful to see them moving forward now. They have a head start with college credit from their charter high school based at our community college. They should graduate within three years, she perhaps a little less.

    😦 Irma

    😦 Jose

  2. 🙂 Mary and Tom came over and brought Ellie.
and Charlie and Graham. Graham is the Big Brother. He is five.
Ellie is a “daddy’s girl”. She doesn’t want anyone else to hold her.

  3. 😦 Tumultuous week with hurricanes, both macro/real and micro/personal (thinking especially of Kizzie & family)

😦 One of our most talented, long-time photographers left yesterday, having taken the buyout. He and his wife are apparently “financially set” with inheritances and a house they bought years ago in a beach community where home values are now have all soared to well over $1 million, so he was one of the few who happily snatched up the buyout, meager though it was (the money, or lack thereof being offered, apparently didn’t matter). Very good for him, but a big loss for us. Still, he and his wife already had purchased a 2nd house in Oregon so retirement would have been imminent anyway. He was smiling through the tears as he said goodbye to everyone.

😦 And on it will go. We’ll be losing one person a week in the month ahead as others leave. The atmosphere is very sad and also stressful. Those of us who have been around a while have been “here” before. It’ll pass, just like the other crises did. But each time you go through it, it takes a toll. And the overall crisis isn’t going away, the industry as a profitable/sustainable business model (now largely digital, but that doesn’t provide the revenue print did) simply has been in a 20-year-long tailspin with no good end in sight.

  4. Have I ever mentioned how much I appreciate my husband’s care for us? Well, I do appreciate him. Especially today as we have been busy with Saturday cleanup and chores and dealing with sixteen year old on the edge and the horses got out. But what has my husband done to help (after all, he is driving back from Los Angeles and not exactly here). Well, as Kim can attest to, he provides food. And in this case, I was wanting something quick and easy so I simply pulled out one of the bags of precooked with onion (sorry Chas) hamburger that he fixes for me in large quantities and neatly bags for smaller meals while he is here. It is in the big pan with some water and some taco seasoning and that is it for my dinner prep. We will have it with tortilla chips or tortilla shells as preferred, sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa. And we are good. What a guy!
