Prayer Requests 9-8-17

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 28

To you, Lord, I call;
    you are my Rock,
    do not turn a deaf ear to me.
    For if you remain silent,
    I will be like those who go down to the pit.
Hear my cry for mercy
    as I call to you for help,
    as I lift up my hands
    toward your Most Holy Place.

Do not drag me away with the wicked,
    with those who do evil,
    who speak cordially with their neighbors
    but harbor malice in their hearts.
Repay them for their deeds
    and for their evil work;
    repay them for what their hands have done
    and bring back on them what they deserve.

Because they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord
    and what his hands have done,
    he will tear them down
    and never build them up again.

Praise be to the Lord,
    for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
    My heart leaps for joy,
    and with my song I praise him.

The Lord is the strength of his people,
    a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
Save your people and bless your inheritance;
    be their shepherd and carry them forever.

  1. I participate in prayer calls with Intercessors for America. If you would like to join today’s call concerning Irma and Harvey, a few minutes before 12:15 EST, call 712-432-0075 and enter the code 1412452. They also do Facebook Live for their calls.

  2. Thank you for continuing prayers for my Hubby. He is feeling so overwhelmed by all the doctors’ directives & such, & still feeling quite weak.

    Although I usually “wait” on him when he is sick (& quite frankly, at other times, too 🙂 ), I told him that I would be encouraging him to get up & get things for himself, to get him moving. He agrees with this, & knows I’m not being unsympathetic. And of course, if he gets too tired, I will help him out. He is planning on taking walks, too.

    One of the things foremost on his mind is finances. For the ten days he’s out, he will get paid personal time (which they have instead of sick days), but that is based on working eight-hour day, & he works 10 – 12 hour days, & our tight budget is based on that. There is a co-pay for the hospital which, although not as high as I’d expected, is still an added burden.

    But last night, as I was beginning to feel overwhelmed myself, I told the Lord that I just can’t think about it, it is too much, & I entrusted it all to Him, our Burden-Bearer & Provider. He knows our needs, & He will provide. All glory & praise to our loving Heavenly Father!

  3. Emily just called. She had taken Lee up to pick up his car at work, in Agawam, Mass. Then she was on her way home, after making sure the car would start. Some time after that, he called her, saying, “Help, help. Come back & help me.” She called 911 & went back. She said he sounds delirious, & they are taking him to a hospital up there.

    I am so scared. Please pray!

  4. It is affecting his speech & his right side. It is not a bleeding stroke, but one caused by a clot. They are treating him with blood thinners to try to dissolve the clot.

    Emily is with him. I asked Chrissy to come over, & to stay home for a while, while this is all going on. I’m scared & numb at the same time.

  5. Ischemic strokes can have a very good outcome if they get thrombolytics within the first 4 hours. Sounds like they caught it immediately. Praying with you and for you.

  6. Kizzie, Mrs. B. and I are praying for you and your whole family. I had a mild stroke 18 years ago affecting speech and I remember how frightening it was. I hope and pray your Hubby makes a full and speedy recovery.

  7. And that, my friends, is one of the big reasons we go through challenges. So eighteen or whatever years later, we can be a huge encouragement to others struggling with the same.

  8. Good comments, I feel better — that was one of my first reactions, was how quickly they caught it and got medical attention to him. Thankful for technology (including cell phones).

  9. The blood thinner they are using to dissolve the clot seems to be working. Emily says his movement & speech are improving. And his sense of humor is still intact.

    When Emily explained to him that the med works to break up the clot so the blood can flow to his brain like it’s supposed to, he replied, “That’ll be the first time in 62 years.”

    Another time, he accidentally said something weird, & he laughed at himself. So glad he can do that. It makes me feel better about the situation, too.

    Since Emily (yeah, I’ve dropped the pseudonyms for now) is with Lee, I went to the bus stop (end of our lane) to get Forrest from the bus. His bus went zooming by, not stopping. I waited for a couple minutes, thinking maybe she forgot to stop, but she didn’t come back.

    I texted Emily about that, & while I was waiting for a reply, it occurred to me that since she had the day off, she might have arranged to pick Forrest up from school. Yup, that’s what it was, & she’d forgotten to call the school to have him take the bus home.

    Fortunately (or more likely, by God’s providence), Forrest’s other grandmother had gotten back from work early, as one of her clients cancelled (she’s an occupational therapist who goes to clients’ homes), so she was able to pick him up. She took him back to her house for a little while.

    Thank you for your prayers. The stroke happened at a good time, as I think he was still in the bakery parking lot, not driving home yet. And his call to Emily prompted her to call 911, which got him to the hospital quickly. I am very thankful for that.

  10. Cheryl – I’m here at home for Forrest, who should be here soon. Emily will be taking me up either later or in the morning. Lee understands the situation.

  11. In addition to a speedy & full healing, please pray for financial provision. Since being in the hospital so long, he’s now used up his personal days. At this point, I have no idea when he’ll be able to go back to work. Or if? (Don’t wanna think about the possibility that he might not be able to go back to work.)

    Right now, he is in ICU. The bleeding is back in his urine, due to the blood thinner, so he is catheterized again. Since the medication can cause a hemorrhage in his brain, they will be monitoring him closely for 24 hours (beginning when they started him on the med).

    Meanwhile, looks like Forrest is getting a cold, which would not be good for Emily &/or me to get & pass on to Lee. I’m hoping it’s only allergies, because it came on seemingly all of a sudden, after getting home from his other grandmother’s house. She has kittens & bunnies. (Well, we have cats, too, but maybe hers have different dander?)

  12. A friend is sitting in Florida traffic near Orlando. Five hours ago she was moving 1/4 a mile an hour.

    She’s a Coast Guard widow my age, all her family are in Florida. Her house is 26 feet above sea level near Port Canaveral. Her son’s house is 6 feet above sea level. He’s camping out at her house with his family–everything is boarded up.

    Other family are safe except a nineteen year old granddaughter who refused to leave the Keys. The family is praying she goes to a shelter, but are bracing themselves she may be lost.

    I can’t imagine. Please pray.

  14. Emily is taking this really hard. She saw him in the worst of it, saw his hand dangling off the gurney, realizing it was a stroke, heard him not being able to articulate well in the beginning. She came home & cried on my shoulder.

    She almost never does that. She tends to not want my comfort, at least not the huggy comfort I want to give. Even that night last year when Mr X assaulted her, she did not want my arm around her or anything similar. But she was grateful for the cup of tea I brought her.

    Anyway, please pray that this current situation will draw her, & Chrissy, too (& let’s not forget Forrest) to Jesus. May God draw my beloveds unto Himself.

    (Speaking of that incident with Mr X, Emily is not happy that of the two felonies & two misdemeanors he was initially charged with, the plea deal threw out everything but the lesser misdemeanor, basically a slap on the wrist, although the protective order for Emily is permanent. But she still feels anxious if anyone touches her neck, or even if a piece of clothing is a little too snug around her neck. And we still sometimes see traces of the anger it left Forrest with.)

  15. 🙂 Pastor Billy & his wife Renee went up to see him. Pastor Billy just sent me a photo of Lee, with his big smile & giving a thumbs up.

    Emily told me a few incidences of his humor showing through in the midst of it all.

  16. Oh, & his strength on the right side seems to have come back already. I believe that is God’s touch, but Emily says it’s the medicine. Either one is from God as far as I’m concerned.

    We’ll all be going up to see him in the morning.

  17. Kizzie, I am here to testify that God is able to supply all your needs. Miguel has been off work for 4 weeks now, and I was off for 3. I have only worked 1 shift, labor day, since then. All of our needs have been met in abundance. Our bills for September are paid, and we have money in the checking accounts to pay Oct bills. My work will allow me to work only 1 night shift a week, thereby keeping my job, and keeping us afloat. He will take care of you!

  18. Forrest misses his Papa, but he doesn’t know how serious this is. Even so, he is not happy that Papa has to be in the hospital again.

    And now I must get off this laptop & go to bed. I am tired.
