Prayer Requests 7-21-17

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 136:1-9

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

  1. Woke up this morning in the wee hours with a nocturnal asthma attack. Despite all my problems, I hadn’t had one of the attacks that occurs during sleep yet. Still feeling the effects of it this morning.

  2. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your presence in the lives of believers so we know we are never alone in our sufferings. Please be a strong and mighty force in Roscuro’s life against the inflammation causing her asthma flare-up. Please settle down each area of affliction, each tiny passageway in her lungs. I pray that any buildup of mucous or fluid would quickly be dissolved and pass out of her body. Please let her feel an immediate loosening of the tightness of her chest where muscles have engaged in fighting for breaths. You see the stress her body has undergone. Please bring Your best help to her troubling times. And please help her to be healthy enough to study and continue her program. Please let her do well on her exams and presentations. Bolster her with confidence and be her strength in physical or any other forms of weakness. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen

  3. My dad suffered from asthma all his life. He used experimental drugs even as a child. It runs in the family. It was amazing all he did and accomplished in spite of the meds and breathing issues. Taking Prednisone is no fun. Prayers, roscuro.

  4. Husband is on a daily dose of prednisone for the rheumatoid arthritis issues. No obvious side effects. His dad has been on a daily dose for at least the past thirty years, with no obvious side effects.

  5. A couple requests:

1.) My friend Renee-in-Minnesota is in poor health. She has been ever since a supposedly simple procedure went wrong three years ago. She was without oxygen for a fairly long time, & her organs began to shut down, leading to her being hospitalized for six weeks . She also has some brain damage as a result, with poor short-term memory & difficulty thinking at times. What she has not lost is her faith & a somewhat sassy sense of humor.

She has battled fatigue since then, & lately it has been exceptionally bad, where she takes several naps a day & still feels exhausted. She had some lab tests done yesterday to see what could be behind it. Please pray for her physical health, & also for her emotional health. She is very frustrated at not being able to do anything. She can barely walk around her home.

2.) A lady posted on one of our town’s Facebook pages, asking about churches in the area. She said that her three year old daughter has been asking questions about God & church, so she wants to find a place for them to go. May God lead them to the right church, & save them both, as well as the rest of the family.

  6. Karen, your friend sounds like her health issues equal those of my local
friend, Karen. This heat and air has been especially difficult on her frail system this summer.

For those suffering from asthma, my son got relief from salmon. It has anti- inflammatory qualities. If you don’t care for the taste of salmon, you can get salmon oil capsules, Son would have flare-ups that were hard to settle down. I would feed him salmon and his wheeze would go away.

  7. Prayers for the employment status of everyone here, looks like more layoffs are in our future. We have a reporter who’s pregnant (expecting in October) and others in situations where issues such as insurance (not to mention income) would be very tough right now.

  8. Mumsee, the most obvious side effect of prednisone is sodium and water retention, creating that puffy weight gain and ‘moon’ face usually associated with the adrenal gland overproduction condition of Cushing’s syndrome. I knew three people growing up, two of them children around my age, who had that Cushing’s syndrome look – it turned out that all three of them had been taking prednisone for years, the children because they had had organ transplants. The most insidious side effect is the suppression of the immune system, which allows infections to develop silently and severely – it is the effect that is wanted, since suppressing the immune system stops inflammation and organ rejection, but too much suppression and the body has no defenses. Since the prednisone mimics the adrenal gland’s natural cortisol production, taking it for long periods of time will cause the adrenal glands to stop producing the natural hormone, so that going off prednisone suddenly will create adrenal insufficiency, known as Addison’s disease, a serious and fatal condition if untreated. It is a powerful drug, with powerful side effects.

Janice, I like salmon, but it is expensive.

  9. Another insidious side effect of prednisone is its effect on mood and mental health. Two of the three people I knew as a child on the medication intimidated me because they always seemed so cross; but it can create full blown psychiatric problems as well as mere irritability.

  10. Husband knows about the anger part and we remind each other that it is the drug talking, which reminds him to take control of his actions and words, not let the drug run his life. Of course, anger for my husband is laughable to those who have experienced real anger. He is a very gentle soul.

The puffiness has happened to him, but was easily remedied with change of diet. Well, maybe not so easily, but remedied. It comes and goes as does his eating. His dad never seems to have experienced it and the anger he used to exhibit, he had long before he started prednisone. Probably a response to feeling terrible all of the time. But, since marrying the beloved fifteen or so years ago, and a letter from me telling him what she meant by unequally yoked, his anger has pretty much gone away. Except during some card games. But I attribute that to growth in the Lord.
