Prayer Requests 1-23-17

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 116:1-7

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
    he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
    I will call on him as long as I live.

The cords of death entangled me,
    the anguish of the grave came over me;
    I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
    Lord, save me!”

The Lord is gracious and righteous;
    our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary;
    when I was brought low, he saved me.

Return to your rest, my soul,
    for the Lord has been good to you.

  1. My friend L’s husband invited 3 couples over yesterday to watch football and have dinner. It was one couple, half of another couple, and me who went. Mr P is quite serious about football and didn’t want to be distracted. We all had a good time and L was feeling somewhat better.
    She is resigned to what is going to happen. From the radiation of cancer in 2006 her internal organs are damaged. Her bladder will never function properly again. So far there is no such thing as a bladder transplant…perhaps she can be the first one day. They will eventually surgically insert a catheter and she will have an external bag attached to her body. She teared up somewhat when she told me that this will eventually get her, but she was the first patient her cancer doctor had had to survive her type of cancer so every day since 2006 has been a gift.
    She did sit her husband down before her last surgery and tell him what she wanted done for their daughter’s wedding when she eventually marries. She said Daughter wouldn’t do it the way she wanted. I told her to please tell me, I would make sure it was done right. I told her it might be my only chance because BG certainly wouldn’t want that type of wedding. Then I told her it was ALL ABOUT ME if she couldn’t be there to do it I would make sure it happened the way she would want. She laughed and told me she loved me.
    It hurts my heart. She is 10 months younger than I am.

  2. One of our elders is at UCSF’s hospital waiting for a bladder rebuild. None of the nurses in my Bible study last week had ever heard of that before. Perhaps it’s new out here?

    In his case, our elder has been a paraplegic for 50 years after a wild accident in Ecuador while serving with the Peace Corps. A tremendous story of God’s mercy in action.

    You can pray for Jim– who went on to get a PhD, marry a nurse, and teach men’s Bible study ever since. His kidneys are now failing and thus he is on dialysis and the surgery was postponed. He’s a good man who has been to death’s door and back too many times to count. It’s not looking good this time. His wife Carol could use prayers, too.

    Thank you.

  3. In Jenn’s case, they recently were told that one of her surgeons had also removed her urethra. She hadn’t been told that at the time.

    She now has heart problems, too, & a painful bladder stone, which would need surgery to remove. But surgery is too dangerous for her, so she is reluctant to do that.

    Recently, Jenn was rejoicing that she had gained weight, & was now “up to 88 lbs.”. She is in her mid-40s, but looks much older because of the toll these health issues have taken on her. Very sad. She so wants to hold on for her family, especially now that she has those twin grandbabies.
