Psalm 86:1-13
1 Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God;
3 have mercy on me, Lord,
for I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
for I put my trust in you.
5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
6 Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
7 When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.
8 Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
9 All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.

My daughter is back at work saving lives and will fly home again tomorrow.
The horrors surrounding so many other family and friends–as we’ve seen here–continue. Blessings to all.

My heart hurts after learning of the death of two children this week. A question keeps entering my mind. How will a parent ever find joy in the Christmas season again. I keep thinking of Michelle’s post on Facing Death at Christmas, but in a way we expect to lose out parents at some point. Some of us mourn longer than others, but a parent never expects to lose a child.
I also cannot get the woman across the street out of my mind. I wish I knew something I could do for her. Her ex-husband and his father were back at the house yesterday and her vehicle was gone. She says her mother is helping her. There is neighborly help and there is interfering and I am not sure where the line is in this case.

I have friends who have lost three of their children. They will never get over it, but they trust God and find joy where they can. They saturate themselves with God’s word and concentrate on helping others, as well as loving their children who are still living. Great grandchildren and grandchildren help them. Others will never have that blessing, but God will put those in their path who need love from them. They don’t want to let the devil win, but want to finish the race well.

I have a friend who lost a child at Easter, a toddler she ran over (obviously an accidental death). I can’t help but think that Easter is extraordinarily poignant and meaningful to her. She had a younger baby at the time, and later had one more.
She attended my wedding with the child who was a baby when her toddler was killed. She sat with my sister at my wedding reception and told her that she couldn’t have more children–it was simply too painful when each of the younger ones reached the age at which their sister died.
