Prayer Requests 10-17-16

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 19

¹The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

  1. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

I taught SS in Virginia for many years. I used to open each lesion with that prayer.
But I left and went to Hendersonville. A few months .after I arrived, my former SS class sent me a two pen mounted fountain pen holder with those words on the base.
    I still have it.

  2. Chas, actually they do still make fountain pens–my husband has several, and some really lovely inks. He was using one almost exclusively for a while, but they’re a lot of work to clean.

  3. Well, this talk about pens is a good lead-in & reminder for me to ask prayer for Hubby. I have hesitated to mention this, but it is something he prays about, so here goes. . .

Several years ago, Hubby stumbled across some information about adults with ADD, & it opened his eyes to his own struggles. He definitely fits the descriptions they gave. He can be organized for his work, with much planning & effort, but at home he has a lot more trouble. He has been saying lately, out of frustration with himself, that he needs a new brain. (It’s not only about “organization”, but also about clear thinking.)

(Some people say that ADD or ADHD are merely results of bad parenting, not enough discipline. But his parents were very strict, lovingly so, with him, he did not, & does not, lack discipline.)

Okay, so where do the pens come into this? Bear with me.

A friend recently explained to me that there is no such thing as only ADD, it is always ADHD, but the hyperactivity can come out in ways that don’t seem to fit that word, such as in obsessions or compulsions. That helps explain why Hubby is always buying new pens (he even bought an expensive Mont Blanc pen years ago) – & jackets – & hats, & one or two more items. He admitted he does have a compulsion to keep buying these certain items. (But for several months now, he has been making the effort – successfully – to not give in to those compulsions. Recognizing them as such has helped, too.)

Anyway, if you all could pray for God to help him in this area (not only with the compulsions, but the general need to have more “organized” & clear thinking), we would appreciate it.

(There was an episode of a TV show many years ago in which a man was killed for his pen. When the police entered the apartment of the perpetrator, there were pens everywhere. I turned & looked at Hubby, pretending to be suspicious of him. We both laughed, & we have mentioned that episode to each other several times through the years.)

  4. I know several adult and myself who have ADD. I find I am a lot better on medication. (Which I am currently not taking because the one that works best for me lost it’s patent and the pharmacies quick carrying it)

  5. Yesterday morning I said there was no change in my eye. Since then, it has been clearing, slowly. The yellow is gone, & the darkness is slowly fading, almost gone. The floaters are still there, but I’m getting used to seeing through them. (I did read that sometimes people get permanent floaters after cataract surgery.) Eyesight has not become clear yet, but it should get better with time.
