Good evening Jo.
I’m not awake enough to think of a question. I finished reading a book called “Breakpoint” by Richard Clark. An interesting book about future technical developments. But I don’t really recommend it. Too complicated in personnel to be enjoyable. If you could read it on one or two settings, it might be better.
I pasted this on yesterday’s thread, wondering if the missile site still existed:
“Rebel forces in Yemen are thought have been blamed after a missile was fired on a US Navy warship.
The USS Mason, a guided missile destroyer, was shot at with rockets but was undamaged.
The vessel was on a routine patrol in international waters, according to officials. ”
For all I know, the response was, “Yah, yah, you missed me.”
I didn’t make the point I meant to make when I did that.
We have to know that the next president will be tested. Probably severely.
Russia told Obama they didn’t want a defensive anti missile system in Poland.
Obama said, “If it offends you, we won’t build it.”
They, and the rest of the world have treated him with the contempt he disserves. This has been going on for eight years.
Most likely a cyber attack. Cyber warfare is next. Millions will freeze in the dark.
The next president shouldn’t reply by saying, “That isn’t the way we do things in the twenty first century.”
The cooler weather along with the daylight breaking through later has caused us to sleep longer than usual this morning. Art said he plans to go back to his regular work schedule next week.
Does anyone else have the airbag recall on their cars? All three of our cars have received notice of the defect, but the companies have not said the parts are in yet. My friend went to the dealership and threatened suit if anything happened to their daughter because of the problem and they got a rental car until the problem could be fixed. That is the old cliche at work where the squeaky wheel gets the attention. Since my friend may want me to take her to the hospital I told her she may have to ride in the backseat because of the airbag situation.
Good morning, Chas and Janice. I don’t drink coffee, but I’ll share a cup of tea with you all. 🙂
Unusual day ahead. I am home alone right now, and will be for probably most of the rest of the morning. Then hubby will bring 5th Arrow (younger son) back home and go to work, and it’ll be just the boy and me home together for the rest of the day.
The rest of the kids are going to visit 2nd Arrow today; she lives about 3 hours away. We figured with 5th Arrow being sick yesterday, it would be best for him not to go on that long a journey, though he is feeling better today, and only threw up that one time yesterday.
Hubby is taking him around to area car dealerships this morning, which they both love to do. I have a few projects in mind for what I’ll be doing during my alone time. Haven’t decided which yet, as I probably won’t have time for all of them. Then son will be my project for the afternoon and evening. 😉 I’m looking forward to the time we’ll spend together today by ourselves, just doing the mother-son thing, whatever that thing might happen to be. 😀
I love this cooler fall weather, and the change of clothing that goes with it. I guess it is partly because I could count on getting a few new clothes from the store for the start of the new school year. Most of what I had was made by my mom, and that meant not branded like many of the girls had. That was such a big deal back then. I was so thankful when I got old enough to babysit so I could earn money to buy clothes from a nice shop. My parents did not come from a background to understand the importance of having the “right labels” on Your clothes before people would consider you worthy of friendship.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a squirrel-proof feeder if all that come are house sparrows. Might as well feed squirrels, which at least are entertaining (although squirrels can empty half a feeding in one sitting). I put up a feeder in Nashville, and I got only squirrels and house sparrows. Never bought a second bag of feed. We had lots of other species of birds, but they didn’t come, and I had no interest in feeding either of those two species. (Squirrels would have been OK if they would have just had a small snack and left, but they ate so much that I didn’t want to feed them, either.)
I agree Chas but It’s a teen thing. The Kid wanted to go school shopping with a friend. This friend is notoriously vain. The Kid spent all the money I sent with him on one outfit. That was his choice as long as he is willing to wear last year’s stuff the other four days a week.
Sorry, I meant 13th inning. I think I read 13th one place and 11th another, but I think it was 13 innings. The first nine kept me up past my bedtime, and I wasn’t up for more . . .
It took months for Honda to get in the recalled airbag for my CRV. They kept mailing me notices telling me to make an appointment with my local Honda dealership– which I had the first time I got the notice.
I called back periodically, eventually I caught the cycle where they had one in stock, went in, they repaired it and that was that. Maybe a year ago?
I don’t travel with Adorables in the front seat, so I wasn’t concerned.
Hmm, though one Adorable is big enough, now. 5′ 1″ at nine years old!
I have no problem with feeding squirrels. They are cute and they give the dog someone to chase so she can strut back like she just saved us from a band of murderous mailmen.
I used to enjoy watching the squirrels at my bird feeder here, but then I got a dog who was a little too predatory. For everyone’s safety, I took it down. (And now we can’t have them because they’re a known coyote attractant — both the feeders and the critters they draw in, birds bring the cats & the feed brings other small coyote munchables right into your backyard, all so handy for coyote snacks).
Feeling a little better about the bathroom, I got busy yesterday and set up an appointment with one of the window companies for Saturday (2nd one is supposed to call back, hoping to get them set up for another time also on Saturday). That should give me a lot more answers on what can and can’t be done in the bathroom — and firm estimates to compare.
I also ordered the floor tile from Home Depot online & the light fixtures (kudos to Kim again for her advice, it’s going to be beautiful 🙂 )
Today I will (hopefully) figure out and order the beadboard.
That only leaves the tub/shower area tiles & grout, which I really feel I can’t order without more information from a tile person, so I’ll check in with the real estate guy (who’s the go-between with workers on this) and then go from there on that.
Otherwise, everything is either already here or is on its way.
I have mixed feelings about squirrels because my father hated them for taking over the pecan tree. He shot those creatures when he had the opportunity. But I do think they are cute, and they have never been an enemy to me personally. I put out bits of food for them and the birds. My father would not be pleased with my actions of generosity.
We’ve never had a problem with coyotes or burglary, because our backyard connects to the backyards of the next street over. The people across the street whose backs are to the woods have had problems with both.
I’m sure squirrels can be a nuisance, but I’ve never had problems with them either (although I kind of felt sorry for the birds when the squirrels took over the bird feeder).
Strange story I had to do yesterday on a local state assembly race where the Dem put up a bunch of signs linking his GOP opponent to Trump.
Except GOP candidate has long repudiated Trump, has announced he will not vote for either of the major party candidates.
So many instances this year of coyotes getting over 6-foot-tall fences into backyards to kill small dogs. The block walls that are so popular in some of our newer housing developments are especially easy for them to leap onto. One wildlife official said it’s essentially the way they can now “shop” for their food, they just walk along the wall tops, from one to the next, checking out what’s available for lunch.
I don’t think the squirrels at my new house will bother the bird feeder when I put it up, as there are lots of oak trees dropping acorns everywhere. We hear the squirrels on the roof above our bedroom a lot, as there are three big branches over the roof.
Donna, the coyotes walking along the walls reminds me of the book The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be by Farley Mowat. Mowat’s childhood dog would walk along the tops of backyard board fences and thus not only terrorized the neighbourhood cats but also drove the neighbourhood dogs crazy. Only, being a dog and not a coyote, he wasn’t a fatal menace – though by Mowat’s account, one dog gave himself permanent brain damage by ramming his head into the boards whenever he caught sight of Mowat’s dog on the fence. What a dog can figure out, a coyote probably can too.
Busy day here. I came into the office today just to show my face. It also made me get out of my PJ’s before noon. 🙂
I have had so much fun with DJ’s bathroom remodel. I can’t wait to see the after photos. It is going to be lovely.
Mr. P is going to the Alabama/Texas A&M game on the 22nd. I cannot wait. I have two girlfriends coming over to help me rearrange my kitchen and a few other things. Oh the little thrills I get these days.
I am going to be calm today. Yesterday I let myself get upset when I got emails from my property manager to pay a 1300 painting bill that I paid a month ago. Trouble is they did some other things without telling me and used some of the money. The gal doesn’t believe that I paid it. I may owe them some money for the other work, but not that much. I am determined to ignore it this morning and figure it out when I come home this evening. It was very hard when she kept telling me, no, that was the other work. If she won’t do the math, her job, I will do it and let her know how much I really owe. Of course I am hoping they get renters in and it will all be taken care of.
Good afternoon all. We have at it all day. One of my new botitle calves us sick. That was an hour coaxing it to drink all its milk. We had bid on some Playground equipment a month or so ago. We got the merry-go-round, and a big jungle gym thing with slides at both ends and 4 fireman poles. It was supposed to be removed from the city yard by today. The whole crew is home now. Everyone had a good day. Well, except hubby. He enjoyed this morning with 5th Arrow, then went to work, but came home sick about 5-6 hours later.
Kare, I joined WMB exactly 3 months before they shut down the blog (May 31, 2012 / August 31, 2012), and, as I recall, you joined just a little after I did, maybe a week or two later. AnnMS and Yapamom came on board around the same time we did, too.
When we moved over here to Wandering Views, some people, for whatever reason, couldn’t get registered or logged in or whatever you call it with their former screen names. I think that was when you added the 2012 to your name. 🙂
I lurked at WMB for about a year before joining. Maybe you were already a lurker when you moved north?
6 Arrows, they played the Giants. When I went to bed about 1:30 last night, they were tied in the ninth inning of what could have been the closing (third) game, but they went to 13 innings before the Giants won. (The part I did see–I didn’t watch all of the first nine innings–was a crazy game.)
Tonight with the Giants at a 5-2 lead, I figured it was going to game 5, and I really didn’t want to watch the last couple of innings, but I did. And then the ninth inning was exciting (for Cubs fans). The first batter was walked, which was a great start. They got two runs before they had any outs, leading one to hope they could indeed keep going. The play that got their third run also got their first out, so they tied the game before they got a single out. Giants used five pitchers in the inning, but Cubs got up 6-2 with only one out. Finally they got the last two outs, to the Giants’ vast relief, I’m sure. But Chapman came in to pitch. He did poorly last night–three runs came in with only one out, which is unheard of for him, but he was back in his form tonight. The third of the Giants three batters put up a valiant fight, but with no pitch slower than 100 m.p.h., Chapman struck out all three of the Giants batters, and the Cubs advanced.
Last time they won the World Series was 1908. Last time they even played in it was 1947, I think it was. They aren’t in the World Series yet, but I’m hoping this is the year they finally win it. Cubs fans have been loyal for more than a century, and it would be great to see them rewarded.
A former roommate of mine back in the 80’s was a big Cubs fan. This must be very exciting for her! (If she’s still around — we haven’t kept in touch.) Sounds like that was a great game to watch last night!
Good Tuesday morning everyone.

I had to look up who won the Cubs game last night, because I went to bed in the bottom of the ninth (about 1:30 in the morning) when the game was tied after some weird upsets. The Cubs ended up losing in the 11th inning, by one run. May they win their next game!
