  1. The tide seems to be turning. All of the media is piling on Trump, while Trump and his spokeswoman do the most damage to their own cause. Yesterday, Katrina Pierson (who also suggested 9/11 was an “inside job”) blamed Obama’s Rules of Engagement for Capt. Khan’s death. Mr. Kahn went on TV and looked sad and confirmed his son was killed during the Bush Administration. Meanwhile, Trump said the New York Times “doesn’t write good.”

I hope Republican leaders are thinking hard about how to get Trumpkins to support sane candidates in the future without caving on free trade, socialized medicine, etc.

Hopefully, Christian leaders such as Robert Jeffress and Little Jerry Falwell will recognize their own inability to distinguish between good conservatives and insane charlatans. They, and others like them, did great damage this year.

As Chas has noted, Hillary’s voice is the worst sound on the earth. We are going to be hearing a lot of that sound over the next four years.

  2. Clinton pulling away in the polls — a post-convention bounce? Or something more definitive that’s starting to coalesce?

… Based on the latest polls, Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight gives Clinton a 66 percent chance of winning the election. For what it’s worth, I see Clinton’s prospects as somewhat better than that.

It looks from the poll numbers like Clinton got a bigger bounce from the Democratic convention than Trump got from the Republican one. However, Clinton may also be benefiting from Trump’s comments over the weekend about the parents of Cpt. Humayun Khan, the Muslim soldier who died heroically fighting for the U.S. in Iraq (and perhaps also from Trump’s joke about Russia finding Clinton’s deleted emails).

Clinton may continue to benefit from Trump’s remarks about Khan’s parents. Polls taken during the weekend probably do not fully account for the negative effect of this error on Trump’s campaign.

I’d like to say Trump’s error was unforced. In reality, though, it was forced by Trump’s horrible personality, which was on full display during the primary season. Something like this was inevitable, and it won’t be his last such manifestation.

We all know that Hillary Clinton isn’t a good candidate; far from it. But in politics it’s often better to be lucky than good. With Donald Trump as her opponent, Clinton could hardly be luckier.

  3. It is the policy of the United States to not pay ransom for hostages.
unless it helps to promote Iran’s nuclear aspirations

Serious .question. What has Obama done to retard, not prevent just retard, Iran’s nuclear program

  4. This is some of that “change” Obama was always talking about. Now we DO negotiate with terrorist, and we DO pay ransoms. And in the case of Hillary and Barry’s Libya/Syria excursion, we DO arm them as well. ISIS included.

Change you can believe in. 😦

“JUAN GONZÁLEZ: Julian, I want to mention something else. In March, you launched a searchable archive for over 30,000 emails and email attachments sent to and from Hillary Clinton’s private email server while she was secretary of state. The 50,547 pages of documents span the time from June 2010 to August 2014; 7,500 of the documents were sent by Hillary Clinton herself. The emails were made available in the form of thousands of PDFs by the U.S. State Department as the result of a Freedom of Information Act request. Why did you do this, and what’s the importance, from your perspective, of being able to create a searchable base?

JULIAN ASSANGE: Well, WikiLeaks has become the rebel library of Alexandria. It is the single most significant collection of information that doesn’t exist elsewhere, in a searchable, accessible, citable form, about how modern institutions actually behave. And it’s gone on to set people free from prison, where documents have been used in their court cases; hold the CIA accountable for renditions programs; feed into election cycles, which have resulted in the termination of, in some case—or contributed to the termination of governments, in some cases, taken the heads of intelligence agencies, ministers of defense and so on. So, you know, our civilization can only be as good as our knowledge of what our civilization is. We can’t possibly hope to reform that which we do not understand.

So, those Hillary Clinton emails, they connect together with the cables that we have published of Hillary Clinton, creating a rich picture of how Hillary Clinton performs in office, but, more broadly, how the U.S. Department of State operates. So, for example, the disastrous, absolutely disastrous intervention in Libya, the destruction of the Gaddafi government, which led to the occupation of ISIS of large segments of that country, weapons flows going over to Syria, being pushed by Hillary Clinton, into jihadists within Syria, including ISIS, that’s there in those emails. There’s more than 1,700 emails in Hillary Clinton’s collection, that we have released, just about Libya alone.”

  5. My newsfeed tells me 1) Trump is thinking of dropping out while the RNC worries about his mental stability and 2) Trump will face RICO charges after the election due to Trump U.
Not sure of the validity of above.

The last time the US paid terrorists a ransom was the Reagan admin. Obama does admire Reagan…..but paying Iran isnt technically paying a terrorist. As an aside only Canada and the US explicitly say they will not negotiate with terrorists for hostage ( the UK and Australia may have similar positions)

From what i undstand, Iran’s nuclear weapons program has slowed down and become transparent.

America had always supplied weapons to terrorists except they call them freedom fighters…..see the Afghan mujhadden, Contras, etc. whereas other countries supplied terrorist which they mistakenly called freedom fighters.
