How frustrating, Chas! It will be such a relief when it is all over.
😦 We had a funeral for a favorite aunt of mine. 🙂 She is out of pain. She had a pace maker removed, so she could die asap. She was in much pain in her back for several years. I have such good memories of her and my uncle. He apologized for crying when we hugged yesterday at the funeral. I assured him, it was ok. He will have a big adjustment in his life. He had the adjustment Chas is dealing with, last year. It is difficult to move far from activities and friends and be alone now. His daughter and some grandchildren are close, though.
🙂 Graduation party today for a niece’s son. Best part is having my new granddaughter and siblings coming. 🙂 First time at grandma’s house. 🙂
🙂 Supposed to be terrible storms during the party. 😦 We may all be driving in the midst of them. My husband had to go around a tree and turn around and detour for one on a drive this morning. We had a storm go through. With the hail falling, my back deck looked like the inside of a popcorn machine. All is well now, but we have an awful lot of water standing in our yard again.
I don’t understand 0 it either Cheryl. I had Terminix men out a couple of years ago, they found nothing. And I don’t know what termites would eat in that house.
🙂 Chuck & Linda came over and we hanged lots of pictures.
And Bryan took a fan and lights out of the ceiling and we replaced it with lights I can read by.
I am tired, but we got a lot done.
😆 I did something today that I have never done in all my (almost) 86 years. I made an appointment to get a hair cut. I didn’t know men did such things.
Since the beginning of time, even before Samson, a man just went into a barber shop and sat down. When his time came, he sat in the barber chair and said, “medium trim, little off the top”.
That’s it.
Samson’s problem? He let a woman cut it.
Women don’t usually patronize barber shops.
Don’t you ever watch Hee Haw? No women in that shop.
Or the Andy Griffith Show. Men in the barber shop, women in the beauty shop.
In LA we were always on the cutting edge of things. The barber shop I went to had a woman. She was the wife of the owner and did cashier duty. But no other women there.
I seem to recall a trend, maybe in the 1970s (which would make sense with the women’s movement of that era), where women with long, straight hair had discovered that they could get their hair simply trimmed a lot cheaper at a barber shop — so they started going there instead of to the much more expensive salons. I suppose it was a whole movement away from the “traditional,” asking why should women pay more just for a simple hair cut.
I cut my own hair when it was very long (and simple, all one length), I only went into a real “salon” when I was probably in my late 20s or even 30-ish and wanted some layers added in (I wasn’t crazy enough to try that on my own). I used to see men in the “women’s” hair salons occasionally, too, but not as much anymore.
The place we go for haircuts, which I guess you could call a salon, has a clientele of mostly women, but some men, too. We have gone to Sue for our haircuts for over 25 years, from when she was new at a local place (Lee says it was a combination of barber shop & salon), & then followed her to where she works now. He likes that she does his hair just right, & is gentle. I like how she does my hair, too.
We had hoped to take Forrest to her for his first haircut, but Emily & R took care of that. But we did have the opportunity to take him to her for another haircut a while back.
Donna – That makes sense. Why pay more for a simple trim just because one is a woman?
Something that annoys Emily is that women’s t-shirts are made out of thinner material than men’s t-shirts (not referring to undershirts, but the kind one wears as a shirt), so they are not as durable.
I have attempted to trim my bangs a few times. I think a better term is that I butchered my bangs. Fortunately, my hair is not straight, & I brush my bangs off to the side anyway, whether butchered or trimmed.
Let’s see….twenty five years, two people (or four), every six weeks, ten dollars a pop (though I understand it is more than that, and a tip…..that is about eight or nine appts….about one hundred dollars a year….about 2,500 dollars…doubled…did I miss something?
Eighty six years…four dollars a cut….2,752….
That is a lot of money. I hope they served cookies and milk or something.
Mumsee – I don’t get my hair cut every six weeks. It’s usually more like every two or three months. The girls got their hair cut occasionally, but Lee usually did it. (And he did a good job, too, on simple cuts for them.)
I’m just grateful I don’t have to pay for coloring or those other procedures, not just yet anyway. I also whack away at my bangs in between appointments (every 2-3 months or so for me, too). Sometimes that turns out OK; sometimes not so much.
🙂 Getting to meet a long-distance friend in person.
🙂 Getting some great bird shots this week–I’ll send AJ some in the next few days.
😦 A monster of a project I’m working on but 🙂 a good amount of income from said project. (Sorry I haven’t been around much this week. One more crazy one and then life may calm down a bit for a month. Or may not.)
😦 Lots of sorrows and illnesses in the lives of people I care about.
I could rant all morning about selling the house in Hendersonville,
Radon
Foundation
Termites,
windows
etc.
But, I’ll leave it alone for now.

Did Elvera usually make the appointment for you, or did she cut your hair?

. . . or did he not need an appointment?

Kevin, most of the time with me it’s that everyone around me gets it, and I’m the one thinking, “What? I don’t get it.” 😉
