  1. Morning Aj. It is getting late here and tomorrow is the last day of school.
We will watch a Hairy Maclary video. The vocabulary in those stories is incredible. They are for children, but you should all read them. With my class sitting there watching, I got out my itouch to find out how to say caterwaul and cacophony. They say their teacher learning something new from a book that they love. We have ten of these books and I think I need to order the rest of Lynley Dodd’s books with these boisterous characters.

  2. Fifty nine years ago, the ninth of June was a Sunday. At noon on that day, at FBC Columbia, after the morning service, I walked down the aisle with Elvera Collins.
Dr. Archie Ellis said some magic words and created a family.

    🙂 🙂

  3. Happy Anniversary to our one and only Golden+ couple! Chas & Elvera win the cake with the most layers, one for each year.

If each layer is one and a quarter inch thick, including the frosting between layers, how tall is their anniversary cake?

  4. 6 feet 1.5 inches–or taller than me.

And today is my final day of my 50s. Kim and BG return tomorrow into a tight schedule for me to pick up and deliver. Our plans will be a disaster if they’re late and miss the airporter.

  5. Jo- Our granddaughter likes those books. We do too. And ironically, the realtor selling the house we bought is named Teree McClary.

Congratulations Chas and Elvera! I hope she is able to celebrate this milestone.

Michelle- does that mean that tomorrow is a birthday ending in a zero?

  6. Speaking of Michelle, she retweeted this quote today:

“Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he isn’t. A sense of humor was provided to console him for what he is.” — Horace Walpole

Some of us have a great sense of humor, so I wonder what we are?

  7. We had a fun discussion this morning and it was fun to see bright smiles light up saddened faces. On stepping out the front door, ten year old found the stomach and one leg of a baby rabbit the cat had killed and eaten. They were not there when I went out an hour earlier. He was obviously crushed that the cat, whom he loves, continues to eat the baby rabbits, whom he adores. We discussed God’s creation and how we messed it up and things got violent due to our sin. But the redeeming of Christ and the new heavens and the new earth will be made what it was intended to be and the lion will lie down with the lamb. Presumably, cats will stop eating rodents and lagomorphs and birds and go back to catnip. God is good and opportunities to talk about his gifts are everywhere.

  8. Happy 59th Anniversary, Chas & Elvera!

You have been such a blessing to me, Chas, & to everyone here. May God bless you both richly as you move into your new home.

  9. Happy Anniversary, happy (almost) birthday and happy (almost) homecoming — lots going on this week.

I’m still dragging from election night but at least I will be operating on a (mostly) full night’s sleep today. Still, I wish today was Saturday.

  10. Birdlovers, you have to go to “google” and see how they spell their name today–especially the cartoon action of the second “g.” It’s all cute.

  11. Happy Anniversary Chas and Elvera! May you have many more!

Nature gives us so many opportunities to see God every day. It is my opinion, that every child should have a garden and some critters, and a parent to help them see the Bible come to life.

  12. Well, Emily has her hands full these days. As I’ve previously mentioned, she recently got two part-time practical-nursing jobs. She had orientation for one a couple days this week, & next week she has one day of orientation for that job, one day of orientation for the other job, & one full day of working her other part-time job at Claire’s. (Not sure how long she’s going to keep her job at Claire’s.)

She also has been involved in helping with a friend’s “community garden” (it is on the friend’s property, involving some of the couple’s other friends, too). Forrest loves to go over there with her, playing with the couple’s little boys, & getting nice & dirty.

Emily was initially going to put Forrest in the town “rec” program, where he would be gone five days a week for six (or eight?) weeks of the summer, several hours each day. (There is bus service, with three stops located throughout the town). But she has realized that with her every-other-weekend job, & the per diem one maybe once or twice a week (if days are available), it would be better for him to be home with her. She has plans for fun stuff for them to do together, like camping & going to the beach.

When she was first only considering having him stay home, I encouraged her to do so. By next summer, she could be working full-time, & this may be the last summer she has to spend a lot of time with him. This will be good for both of them.

  13. Posted today in our area (I don’t see many funny coyote posts so this appealed to me):

“Walking the dogs. Coyote trotting along across the street on the sidewalk with two peahens following it and a couple of crows flying above. … Looks like if we hear peacocks sounding an alarm and crows flying above (kind of like vultures above a carcass 😝), you know a coyote is near.”

“Sounds like a parade!” someone replied.

I’ve actually read where coyotes are known to raid nests, including crows’ nests, so that may account for the bird commotion -? – a couple people also have seen crows dive bombing coyotes in bushes.

  14. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It has been a regular, busy day. Nothing special is happening, nor planned.
Elvera wants to take all her stuff to Greensboro.
We don’t have room for all her stuff in Greensboro. She spoils easily. But I knew that sixty years ago.
But the first thing I learned was that she doesn’t handle neglect well.

  15. Kim posted a video of herself flying through the air in California — without a plane. 🙂 Looks like she’s having a grand time, hoping BG was able to meet and bond with some Christian youth her age who might be a positive influence. 🙂

  16. That must have been on Facebook, I’m guessing. Hoping maybe that video could somehow get posted on here when Kim is back. (Or before? Is it on YouTube or somewhere I can get to?)

I’m looking forward to hearing the JH Ranch report when she returns, in any case.

  17. Hi everyone. We ate in Yreka today having Solo Time. It has been a good week although not all that I hoped. There is a video on Facebook of us on the screaming eagle. Perhaps AJ can get and share?
We are leaving the ranch early tomorrow. It is going to be a long day.
So much to tell. I have signed up to share with others when I get home. We have been in a great group. We are the Buttercup s and I am with a very competitive group. We win everything! We climbed the wall in less than 5 minutes. We rock

  18. Regarding coyotes (inspired by Guess Who’s 2:55), well, I haven’t seen any in a number of years (though I hear them at night fairly regularly), but the wildlife report on just our little dead-end road has increasingly become more and more interesting lately.

Three of us four families on our road have seen or heard signs of a bear, as I mentioned a few days ago. Now there are weasels that the family at the back of the road have seen. One of the weasels, unseen by my neighbor until it started running toward her, had just killed a rabbit. Neighbor and her daughter had gotten too close to the weasel’s kill, not knowing why the rabbit was lying where it was, and the weasel ran toward them and circled them three times before they were able to escape to their vehicle. Once there, they saw the animal go back to the dead rabbit and drag it into the weeds on the side of the road.

Then a few days later, when those neighbors were taking a walk, they reported they saw movement in the weeds along the side of the road, and soon discovered that a mama weasel and her three babies were mostly covertly following them and their new little dog, not much bigger than the rabbit that had been killed earlier.

Fast forward to last night after dark when I heard from inside the house some commotion on our open front porch. This morning I went out there and saw some animal scat on the porch that didn’t look familiar.

Hubby then looked at it, and figures it was from a raccoon.

Then I went back in the house and a few minutes later, my neighbor who had the lovely experience with the weasels called and said, “Well, guess what I saw now when I just drove past your house?”

A snapping turtle. Walking along the road, just a little beyond our yard. She told me she wasn’t getting out of the vehicle for that one. 🙂

I’m wondering what’s going to be next!

  19. We now have an A-Door-able here with us. Not quite the same as Michelle’s Adorables. My friend’s dog, Charlie, sent Miss Bosley a toy, a “bouncing plush bird w/feather tail, rattle & catnip cat toy.” It hangs atop the door frame and works especially well with our fan blowing on it. It’s truly the easy route to get an Adorable.

  20. We found out yesterday that Art is back in A Fib and will need surgery to correct his valve problem. He will need to see the surgeon to schedule that surgery. Not the news we wanted, but we will do what is needed.
