  1. Last night I heard this little guy crying like crazy. I finally figured out where he was, under the neighbor’s lawn furniture on her porch. The other neighbor said he’d heard it earlier but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. When we carefully moved the couch, there were 2 wee ones underneath. Sadly, his litter mate was already dead. This one was crying and shaking, the poor thing was freezing. Since there was no sign of mom, and the other had already died, I got Cheryl and ‘Liz and we decided to bring him in. It violated my “no male cats” rule, but I couldn’t just let it die. Poor thing was starving so we warmed some milk and he ate it up. He spent the night in a box with a microwave hot pad underneath, eating frequently. And part of the time he spent curled up on Cheryl’s chest. I’ll call the shelter later and see what they can do about him. I estimate he’s only about 3 weeks old, since his eyes aren’t open yet.

My cats are intrigued by him. They hear him crying and they both come over to see what the racket is. But they don’t seem concerned or upset that he’s here, so that’s good news. 🙂

  2. OK Star Wars fans, we have reached an impasse in naming the little guy.

‘Liz wants to name him Ben Solo, because he was the only one.

I want to name him Kylo Runt.

    Which do you prefer? 🙂

  3. Ben Solo, of course. Logic wins out. Although, he has been solo, he is no longer. Animal shelter will just tell you keep him happy!

That’s awesome! So similar to how I found Miss Bosley, with the unbearable cries.

  4. The main reason I put the car in the shop was because for a long time the open door indicator light has been on which meant the interior lights would not go off automatically so I had to turn them off and leave them off. This occurred about a week after that guy side swiped our car back in January (while returning from Hilton Head). As it turned out, the door is out of alignment so it had to go to the body shop and will be realigned for about $450.00. They also found a rack and pinion problem which was unexpected and determined to be under our extended warranty, but a claims person needs to look at it because of the expense. They may not get to it before I am suppose to use the car for the conference trip. Everything gets complicated. Also, Art needs me to help get his shoe on. So now I feel badly leaving with that going on. I may look for a pair of shoes for him today. This is one of those perfectlyl lined up times to say, “It’s always something! “

  6. Kim,

I checked the SPAM folder, but no posts from you. Just the usual “date chinese women” type stuff. Sorry.

I did find one from Mumsee last night, but she had already re-posted so I just deleted it so as not to throw off the number races.

  7. Squee. 😮

Bottle-feeder? I’m so glad he’s inside and safe and warm, and that he will have a name and be loved. 🙂

I had a very involved dream about going to mumsee’s last night, can’t remember all of it, but it was all kind of crazy, there were other people involved, including some former co-workers, and there was a wedding for someone we were trying to plan for outdoors. There was an airplane involved along with sitting through a long slide show over dinner followed by lots of plates to clear (I dropped a few) and wash. And there were chickens. And that’s about all I can remember. Kind of left my head spinning.

  8. In the line od, “It’s always something, I just got a call from the daughter of my conference trip mate and they are at ER with a health issue so she will not be able to make the trip. Now I have to decide whether or not to find another person to go or to not go myself. Last year I had to cancel a conference because of Art’s health issue. Perhaps I am not to plan ahead to go to conferences. I am trying to be content no matter what.

  9. Donna, I had strange dreams last night, too. I think part of one was because I sat all day beside a tv at the dealership which had reporters talking on and on about jury selection for the trial of the negligent dad who is accused of murdering his infant son by leaving him in the hot vehicle. I dreamed about getting an apartment in a high rise near the state capitol where I use to work, and somehow there was a party way up high with people out on a deck and three children, a brother and sister and baby sibling, were at the edge without parents watching and the brother let the baby slip between rails to fall to its death. This may relate to Cloudland Canyon, state park I suggested Michelle visit, since overlooks there can seem dangerous for children if unwatched. I also dreamed about that there was no elevator going up or down so there were massive stone staircases to walk down to get to the street. I thought to myself, “I guess I’ll get in some good exercise from this.” So I think this was really a bit about Cloudland, combined with staying in a high rise hotel from upcoming scheduled trip along with the neglected child all being sorted out into a story in my brain overnight.

  10. On the advice of a friend I just downloaded Girls and Sex by Peggy Orenstein. I haven’t read it yet, but remind me to tell you what I think. I know a few of you have pre-teen and early teen girls. If it is worth it and has good advice I will let you know.

  11. AJ, your kitty in the header photo makes me think of one of those big pretzels dotted with rock salt. Is the kitten an orange or buff color? It’s difficult to tell by the lighting.

  12. Although in reading the first page she has described Fifty Shades of Grey as having a “neurasthenic lip-chewing heroine and creepy stalker billionaire”. So, I am taking it that she didn’t like the book….

  13. Exactly. That’s why I am agreeing with her. 🙂

You know there is a meme going around FB that is Christian Grey had lived in a trailer park instead of being a billionaire it would have been an episode of Criminal Minds instead of a best selling book and movie.

  14. From my “cat lady” friend:

Start weaning off the bottle at 4-5 weeks but substitute kitten milk/formula with a little canned kitten food, making it look like gruel or oatmeal.

  15. OK, so here’s what happened with the young kitty. I took him to the local no-kill shelter. When I walked in he was squealing his little head off. All for employees knew what was in the box. 🙂

They thought he was less than 3 weeks and would need bottle feeding every 3 hours or so for a few more weeks. I left him with the nice lady who was taking him back to be checked by the vet. Later today he will go to one of three foster homes with nursing mamas. 🙂

We didn’t really wanna give the little guy up, but it was the right thing to do. And they said he was one of about only 10 they had in their system right now, so finding him a good home won’t be a problem at all. 🙂

  16. And the ladies were amused at the name selections we had. They decided to go with Kylo Runt. But don’t tell ‘Liz. 🙂

Janice, he was mostly grey with white, but had some tiger stripes in his face.

  17. They have all been too busy missing Cheryl to miss Mumsee! I know, I should not mention that, but in looking back over the blog that is what I determined from reading the posts. “Where is that Cheryl?” Is this when she had scheduled her trip to the Windy City to see her friends from way back?

  18. For those who missed me, first of all I’ve been working on photos on my computer (deleting, deleting, deleting). And now I’m in writing mode, rewriting some books I worked on a decade ago. And writing mode pretty much takes over life for a while when I’m in it. (I’m not one of those people who can write 2,000 words every day, or whatever. I work like a crazy woman for three or four months until a book is finished, and then I do other things until the urge overcomes me again a year or a few years later. Which I suppose may be part of why I only have two books in print. But then, I have written several books that remain unpublished, and at this point it seems like time to look at the self-publishing route for at least some of them. I have a women’s nonfiction title that’s half complete and two children’s fiction and two children’s nonfiction, all of them “complete” but needing further revision. It’s time to go back to them, and I’m starting with the children’s fiction.)

In other words . . . have a lovely April, everyone. I’ll see you around eventually, but probably not daily. (And I also got a new editing project today.)
