  1. Morning all. Don’t be a fool today. 🙂
A doctor, who happened to be leaving today for a conference in Greece, made a long post on our centre website this morning. I am posting it here:

We regret to report that the number of individuals on-center who have contracted flu-like symptoms this flu season has reached epidemic proportions.

To protect those individuals who have yet to develop any symptoms, this morning we will be setting up an emergency quarantine facility within the Teen Center to isolate infected SIL members and their families.
We are asking that those individuals who have been seen at the SIL Medical Clinic over the last 2 weeks with symptoms of the flu report to the Teen Center at noon with a packed bag of essentials. You will be checked in and monitored/treated until such time as we determine you to no longer be contagious at which time you’ll be released back to your home(s).

Furthermore, anyone who feels they may be developing flu-like symptoms are to report to the Teen Center any time after noon today for triage in lieu of the medical clinic. We will be staffing the Teen Center 24/7 until this epidemic has passed.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few… or the one.

One more note, all individuals who are admitted into the Teen Center during this crisis will be charged PGK 100 daily for their medical care, supplies, food, and shelter. We will simply charge your accounts.
Thank you, and have a great new month!!!

  2. Good evening, Jo. I hope PGK 100 isn’t very much. And I hope you don’t have to go.

Chas, enjoy your time at the beach. You closed yesterday’s thread with “CULOM”. Is that a telegrapher’s abbreviation? If so you and I might be the only ones to understand it. If not, then you might be the only one to understand it. 🙂

Good morning and good afternoon to everyone else.

  3. Oh, no, Jo! I thought that was going to be an odd April Fool’s joke.

I hear the morning train using its bellowing whistle. I can’t think too much about that because I begin to wonder if a person is stuck in their car on the tracks. My aunt and uncle’s only son was involved in a terrible accident like that when I was a child, and I heard he was decapitated. He was college age and my brother and I were very young children.

  5. A fool says in heart that there is no God. No thanks, I prefer to be a child of His.

Let’s see, they are supposed to report to triage after noon, and the doc left in the morning? Hmmmm….something fishy in Denmark…..

  6. Last night Mr. P and I watched a movie – Brooklyn. I have to admit that a few times there was something in my eye that made it water. If you are looking for a good story this one will do.
Here is the trailer for the movie.

  7. So Chas has gone surfing. Kicking it up on spring break. 🙂

Can’t believe I made it to Friday. Whew.

Two stories to write today plus following up on the accidental death of a 71-year-old longshoreman who was run over by a truck on the docks Wednesday. 😦 I wrote something up yesterday on it but they weren’t releasing many details yet.

  8. I’ve never heard of that either, Janice. How would you know, DNA tests? All that got me is knowing that my handsome Australian shepherd-border collie is really part pit bull. Sheesh. 🙂

But he’s still gorgeous and sweet and perfect.

The cat was laying on top of me (again) this morning, makes it hard to get out of bed.

I never did get a flu shot this year — I usually miss doing that although after getting the flu for the first time in ages last year I vowed to get the shot this time. Oh well.

    Next year.

Seems like flu season is pretty much winding down here. Stay healthy Jo!

  9. We watched “Brooklyn, along with our grown daughter. We all enjoyed it very much. I was disappointed with the unnecessary bedroom scene. Oh, for the days when directors believed movie goers had some imagination. Also, for the days when pre-marital sex was not a given. I can only hope there will be a return to good family movies again.

  10. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 🙂

Most of our remaining print subscribers (more people read us online by far) are folks who are up in years, are rather hard of hearing and have no computer, of course.

They sometimes call and reach our newsroom clerk.

We know this because she suddenly starts shouting into the phone MA’AM. MA’AM. IF YOU WOULD JUST LET ME TALK …

  11. One of the papers we recently acquired in the county to the south of us has a long reputation of being libertarian in its editorial voice. I’m curious to see if they’ll be allowed to keep that unique perspective — or will be forced to share our editorials (which reflect the standard liberal fare, of course).

  12. The cat just walked over me. Again.

I grew up with cats but had forgotten their strange “ways” through so many years of having dogs only. When I got Annie, it was a revelation and a re-learning process.

  13. Okay, eight year old and I have seeded the old garden spot for grass. If we can keep the chickens out, we should have a nice grassy spot off the deck and it should be easier to mow as well. Now we are off to Moscow so husband and son don’t have to be in the smoke when they burn the fields next to us.

  14. Probably apropos to many here:

    http://www.paultripp.com/wednesdays-word/posts/first-responders

    _________________________________

God has ordained family members to be his first responders of mercy when the natural disaster of sin strikes.

If there’s a burning building with people inside, we call the fire department and pray for the first responders to arrive on the scene. Immediately, these first responders rush into the building to save those trapped. Their only goal in that moment is to rescue. …

… Your family members (and you too!) are trapped inside a burning building of personal sin, and God has employed you to be a first responder of mercy in their lives.

Here’s how it works: God will expose the sin, weakness and failure of the people in your family to you because he’s on a mission of mercy in their lives. God makes his invisible mercy visible by ordaining first responders of mercy to give mercy to people who need mercy.

Mercy is why you experience the sin of your spouse, your children, your siblings and your parents. It’s never an accident, an interruption, or a hassle – it’s always God’s rescuing mercy.

Now, don’t misunderstand mercy. Mercy doesn’t turn a blind eye to sin, nor does it accept moral failure and rebellion as okay. Rather, mercy drives first responders to run towards the person who needs rescue, rather than away from them. …

  16. Jo, I kind of assumed it was an April fool’s joke, I just didn’t post.

I had a funny dream last night. I don’t know if he lived with us or was just visiting, but Bugs Bunny was here. 🙂 Well, in the course of the dream I was worried about him, since I hadn’t seen him in about a day. I guess I knew he hadn’t left by one of the doors, so I was afraid he might have gone into some hole, thinking it was a rabbit hole, and gotten stuck, or that he found some way to get out and then got caught by a dog. But I opened the door of a room and found him in bed sleeping, with a female rabbit in bed with him. She had a diamond ring on her finger, and somehow I knew she was his fiancee and not his wife. There was another bed in the room, too, and another rabbit in it, and I knew that was Bugs’s mother. I told my husband I had found him, and about the sleeping arrangements, and he told me that yes, that episode (Bugs in bed with his fiance) wasn’t allowed on the TV station where he grew up, so they substituted a couple minutes from another segment instead, when that one came on. And somehow it made perfect sense that I was seeing, “live,” an animated cartoon that was censored from my husband’s childhood . . .

  17. Re: twin kittens (kind of) – Remember a while back, a cat was cloned? What amazed me was that the cat’s clone had a different coloring & pattern to its coat.

  18. Donna – I’ve read that those dog DNA kits are not reliable. Someone sent her dog’s DNA to different companies, & got different results.

  19. Cheryl – I had a dream once that I was sitting on a sandbar type of thing way out in the ocean, & an animated whale jumped right over me. 🙂

Sometimes I also dream that I am watching a movie on TV, but it is happening around me.

Another interesting dream thing is when I realize (after waking) that two “characters” in my dream were actually the same person, but often at different ages.

    Dreams can be so cool.

  20. Well, Chas, you had me fooled when you said you are at Surfside and on something which I was expecting to see surfboard as the next word instead of laptop. So how do you ride the surf on a laptop? I am a fool today…only today of course.

  21. I knew CULOM from my own ham radio days, but wasn’t sure if that’s what Chas meant.

It’s funny seeing abbreviations used in texting today. There were already perfectly good abbreviations used by telegraphers, but texters had to invent new ones. I guess there’s little overlap between the young people who invented texting and the old telegraphers.

Long day at work…no one tried an April Fools joke on us…I don’t think so anyway…perhaps I just didn’t “get it”!
Have fun in Surfside Chas….I’m certain you will be visiting our favorite place…Brookgreen Gardens….I see the azaleas are blooming there right now…what a joy to walk the grounds of that amazing garden….

  23. Okay, I am mean.

We were driving home from my dad’s house and fourteen year old daughter was explaining to nine year old son that an April Fools joke was something funny you did. She was telling him that she was going to wrap up something in a candy bar and give it to me. When I opened it, it would not be candy and she would yell April Fool!

About that time, husband commented that they had indeed burned the fields around our house. She looked around and all she could see was green and then got a brief glimpse of a burned field (black).

    Oh, I see it !

I said, “No. see the fields around us? Where they are all green? They are doing an experimental burn where all of the burned areas turn green. (She was a bit dubious so I went on…) Notice how you can see the green here in the fields but can’t quite make out the blades of grass? That is because they haven’t quite got it right but close. These green fields are all burned.

Hook. Line. And sinker. Then I turned to nine year old and said, ” Now that is an April Fools joke.” We all laughed and then he piped up, “So these green fields are all burned?”

They can lie but they don’t get when somebody is lying to them. I explained it some more and I think we are fine now. He could smell the burned ground as we neared the house and that helped.

Did I ever mention some of my children are very concrete thinkers?

  24. Yup. and many here believed that post that I posted. I was looking forward and waiting to see some mention of the month.
Looks like the new boy from Holland will be joining my class this week. I’d better head to school and switch things so that there is a place for him. So nice that I have been looking for him and building a relationship so that he has seen the room and feels that I am his friend.

Working on a newsletter. I have gone through all my pictures since the last one deciding what I will include.
