    We had a pretty good visit home for Easter….though my Mom continues to seem angrier at everything each time I go back… She has severe spinal stenosis and is in a great deal of pain most of the day…I believe she’s drinking even more than usual in an effort to dull the pain. .. She’s always been an angry drunk, but now most of her vitriolic comments are aimed at my long-suffering father…It’s sad… She is scheduled to have back surgery in late April. The neurologist said if she doesn’t have the surgery within next six months, the nerves will die and she’ll be confined to a wheelchair..

  4. Good morning! I went to bed early and finally feel like I got enough sleep in the night. I tend to stay up later than I should because of Art’s hours. Also, it’s cooler here now and that always makes for a better night’s sleep. The heat is running this morning with the thermostat sitting on 68.

  7. It’s never the alcoholic’s fault and even regular people tend to hurt the ones closest to them. As I have said before, hurt people; hurt people. I am so sorry you are going through this.
    I woke up earlier in the morning worried about every possible thing there is to worry about in my life. I watched 3 episodes of Law & Order before going back to sleep. I still made myself get up when the alarm sounded…eventually I will get myself back on schedule.
    I have to go help with an Open House today. I will post the video again when I find it so you can feel so sorry for me having to hang out in such a place.

    Guy has that house co-listed with another agent. If I find a buyer for it I maybe would 1% of the commission. So no, I couldn’t retire anywhere. I am going to be the 80 year old check out lady at Wal Mart. 😉

  14. Well, sure, with that you could retire to the Prairie. Of course, we have water. In the form of snow in the mountains so you can see it from lots of places. And we have white sand beaches along the rivers. And we have warm weather every summer. And my husband and a daughter just bought me a hammock, so we have those. And we even have internet, in places. And phone service, in places.

  18. No, but if you get to know the ladies at the library, they will let you place a local call.

    Be sure to check ahead of time, I understand the folks on Joseph Plains never got landlines.

  19. I saw that hawk and thought, “I confess!”

    Off to finish this Bible study on prayer. It’s been a bit awkward and I’ve filled in the silly questions with directed prayer time at the end, which I hope has helped. We’re doing a character study on the life of Paul next. I’ve never done a character study before.

    Skyping with Hillary in Sicily when I get back. A busy morning and then Oswald Chambers dies.

    Perhaps I should have worded that differently?

  22. Outside again? That is nice. I was out this morning, feeding the animals. Even fed the cat. He was waiting, as always. He also likes to help me feed the goats, because he likes to eat the goat grain.

  24. The billing system at our local hospital seems kind of nuts. Each procedure (out-patient types of things – like tests or ER visits) gets its own account number, rather than having one account number per patient. Or is that normal practice these days?

  25. Janice – You mentioned putting yourself on the back burner (re: seeing your doctor) due to Art’s health issues. Same with me. In fact, since Lee has been focusing on the heart issue, taking care of his prostate cancer is temporarily on the back burner, too. (He will see the cardiologist today to find out the results of the tests.)

  28. Actress Patty Duke has died, at age 69, from sepsis due to a ruptured intestine. 😦

    Reading a bit about her, I learned that she & her current husband were married on the same day 30 years ago that Lee & I were.

  30. We don’t do humidity. And last year was about the first year we have ever had mosquitoes and they were very few. We sleep out on the deck with no problem. I don’t like mosquitoes.

  31. Hey Kim- How about retiring to this area? The cost of living is low, and we have a river! Plus, you do well with people, so you could be the 80 year old cashier at Mark Twain Cave (or some other Mark Twain site)!

  32. We have a river. The Lochsa. The Selway, The Clearwater, The Snake, The Columbia. We even have the deepest canyon in the nation, Hell’s Canyon. Oh, wait. Snake river. That may be problematic.

  39. We have humidity (big hair for much of the year), mosquitoes to make you get exercise scratching, and the Mighty Hooch (Chattahoochee River). What’ s not to like besides the yellow pine pollen, hearing y’all one too many times, and not having religious freedom? Oh! And no where else has the famous Miss Boz.

  41. To be fair, I must admit that there is a lot of pine pollen in Grass Valley. I have seen cars and roads covered with it.
    But the west coast has very little humidity.
    I discovered that it is the same in Australia, east coast humid, west coast dry.
