  1. Good Monday morning….beautiful pair of ducks…what is it about ducks gliding across a lake that prompts us to smile….whatever it is….it is soothing to the soul ❤
We have two days of Spring, then two days of winter, then two days of Spring this week….we never put away our winter coats in Colorado…never 🙂

  2. NancyJill I was in Vail, CO on July 18,1992. It was freezing.

Jo, I know that long ago someone told you not to socialize with the younger folks where you are, but you were invited by one of them. Why wouldn’t you have gone?

BG disappointed me again. What else is new? She knew I was making Easter dinner. I even told her what I was making special for her. She didn’t communicate with me all day. She went to her Nana’s which I knew about then she went to her boyfriend’s totally ignoring us. She got home well after 10 last night. It seems she CAN get up and out of the house by 7:30 if it is related to her job….she just can’t do it for school. I told her how disappointed I was and that she needed to sometimes think of other people. I can’t believe I raised this person

  3. Kim, she is very normal in many ways. Sad to say. Most of us did not raise them to be that way, but somehow, it happens. I refuse to make dinner for any of my busy children (those over fifteen) unless they specifically say they will be here. Too often, meals have been made and some work project or dirt biking or whatever comes up. Unless they tell me they plan to be here, they are on their own to make their food and clean up their mess. They are also on their own to get themselves to their places on time. If they are late, that is their problem.

  4. Good Monday morning to all. I get a day off. I guess I’ll get caught up on reading. I’m ready to begin the last chapter of Stonewall Jackson the Black Man’s Friend. What a godly man was that general. I recommend it to any who have an interest in racial relations or the un-Civil War era. If interested, here is the book:

  5. What a handsome duck pair! I love ducks. I have a couple of the authentic carved & painted (realistic) wooden decoys created by someone in Iowa (they were acquired by my mom and I wound up with them).

When I left work on Friday I noticed one of our ducks had returned to the outside fountain at our office building. Waiting for his mate …

So today is Cesar Chavez day and a day off for many — LA schools had spring break last week but get this extra day and other local districts have spring break starting this week.

    I miss spring break. 😦 😦

Not to mention summer vacations. 🙂

  6. Kim @ 10:03

Thanks Kim, I knew most of that. But I didn’t know Hank got a Pulitzer.
Hank wrote several Gospel songs. He understood her Gospel of Christ perfectly. His personal life causes us to question his salvation experience. But there is no doubt that he understood.

  7. Eight year old is busily making chocolate banana pancakes for breakfast for the younger three. Her little feet are scurrying to the table and back to the kitchen. It is so fun to watch them moving upward. They will probably each eat ten good sized pancakes. She was reminding them that she had not eaten yet. I reminded her that it looked like she had plenty of batter left for her. She is only a little tiny thing but she put away three plates of food yesterday at the Easter breakfast, I am told. She was sitting with an ex school superintendent and he was amazed. He usually sits with nine year old and is amazed. so now he is doubly so.

  8. Good afternoon! It’s a fine day here. The rain overnight washed some of the pollen away. The air seems fresher and not quite as yellow tinged. Time for some egg salad for lunch. Wonder how many folks are having eggs in some form today?

  9. I got a text from son yesterday, “Happy Easter.” Then he called late to talk for a little bit. That was very nice since he does not usually think to do that. He was having a break on Friday and Monday for Easter, two of his teaching days, so he had time to remember to call us♡

  10. Kathaleena- Hank Williams had an alternate personality for his Gospel type songs because he had already tarnished his own name so he recorded these under Luke the Drifter

  11. Ours is too wet to do anything. Now that we have taken care of the water problem in our own yard is is leeching over from the property behind us. All I can see back there is little baby water moccasins and Kim ain’t havin’ that.

  12. Chas, I think that was a time in the Bible Belt that you were “born’ a Christian and if you weren’t a Christian or something respectable like a Jew, you certainly didn’t let your mother know and you showed up for all the major church events.

  13. Kim, she “knew” you were making Easter dinner, but she “knew” her nana was, too. It seems to me that both of you should clarify with her where she will be. Maybe even tell her outright that you want to see her “some” of the day and ask her what meal she will be home for. But the reality is, once they get cars and jobs and boyfriends, they may or may not be around on holidays. My girls are older than yours, but one has a job that sometimes requires Sunday work, the other has a fiance who often has to work a couple of hours Sunday (both are in the medical field, so this isn’t luxury work), and so it really wasn’t clear even a few days before who would, or would not, be present. Make her welcome, make the boyfriend welcome if you can, and hopefully she will choose your house for at least some holidays. You might have to do the thing parents with married children do. “I know you want to go to your nana’s at some point, but do you want to be here for Christmas Eve or Christmas?”

As adults, we may go to some family gatherings more because we “have to” than because we “want to,” but that’s a hard one for teens with other options. For Christmas, I had a sick husband, a daughter who had to work, and a daughter whose fiance was coming grudgingly . . . I would have rather “skipped it” under those circumstances, but as an adult I went anyway, had a good time, and left once I had been there long enough that it wasn’t impolite to leave. But being a guest can be every bit as much work as being a hostess!

  14. Well, I did it again. I went out for a minute, got caught up in pulling a few weeds, and noticed an open door as I went around the corner. Miss Bosley was on the brick wall on the far side of the carport. Normally I can crank the car and she is frightened enough to run inside for safety, but she was on the far side and did not want to go past the car to get back inside. When I cut the car off she darted for the door to go back in. I was afraid for her since it is rush hour and many cars use our street as a cut through. Thankfully Boz is afraid of cars. I must train myself to be sure the door clicks when I pull it shut. Strike two for me. At least she did not get her tale pulled this time. I would have but she was not close enough for a catch.

  15. Well, the Georgia governor vetoed the Religious Liberty bill after it had passed the House and Senate. He has caved to celebrities and big business supporting the anything but God ways. Very sad. I voted for him because he is Southern Baptist. Sorry I should have put this on the political thread.

  16. Nana’s was earlier in the day and I moved mine to late in the day to accommodate that. Her Nana is the only living grandparent she has and she is almost 80. I WANT her to spend time with her grandmother. I wanted her to come home afterwards.

  17. Just the thought of water moccasins gives me the heebie-jeebies, thank you. Our snakes are much preferable, IMO.

Kim, my husband sang a lot of Hank Williams and Luke the Drifter songs. (I guess he still does, but is much more into fiddle these days, which is not my preference, but makes him happy.) We have some of these LPs, but I have no idea how well they play. We do have a turn table and should try them out some time.

  18. I called the man who owns the property behind me. He was unaware there was a problem. He was very nice about it and is coming out to look one day this week.
I don’t know for a fact that there are water moccasins back there, I just know the conditions look good for there to be a multitude of snakes back there and “my self ain’t goin’ back there to tempt no snakes”

  19. Boz!

Indoor-outdoor cats are very savvy about all the dangers — in general anyway. But indoor-only cats must be overwhelmed by all the outdoor stimulation

  20. Kim, yeah, if you chose the time to accommodate her, it would have been nice if she had worked with you.

I too prefer rattlesnakes (a snake I “know”) to moccasins. I’m not sure if that would be the case if I hadn’t been reared around rattlers, though!
