Prayer Requests 3-25-16

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Matthew 27:27-60

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

36 And sitting down they watched him there;

37 And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews.

38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

  1. There has been a lot of tension & stress around here this week, due to various situations. It’s the kind of week where it’s one thing after another. Add to that that neither Lee nor I have been getting enough sleep, & it’s not a good combination. 😦

Then yesterday afternoon, Emily had a stressful surprise that instantly brought on a migraine. She received a letter from the IRS that said they had “documentation” that she had made $90,000 last year, & she owes them some of that. After being on hold for a while, she was connected to lady who was condescending, & wouldn’t answer her questions. (The lady just kept repeating the first thing she said.)

Today, my stomach is hurting. At first, I thought it was that “knot in the stomach” feeling I’ve had on & off this week, but it seems to be physical.

  2. Something that has bothered me a bit. Sometime this week on here, I was trying to write an encouraging message to Kim, & I included something about my feelings about the situation with Chrissy. After re-reading it, I thought it sounded kind of like an “all about me” attitude, & that really wasn’t what I was trying to do.

The realization came to me that I often mention something I have gone through or are going through when I try to write an encouraging or comforting comment here on the prayer thread. It’s really not that I’m trying to turn attention to me & my problems, although I can see where it can be taken that way.

Rather, I share those things as a way of expressing that I understand, at least in part, what someone is going through. Often the gist of my message is “You’re not alone.”

In that comment to Kim that I mentioned, I was responding to her saying that she realized she couldn’t help BG anymore. Just the night before, I had surrendered Chrissy & her situation to God, in my own acknowledgement that I couldn’t help or “fix” her, & it seemed germane to Kim’s comment.

Anyway, if anyone takes my mentions of my own situations as trying to turn attention to myself, I apologize for that impression. So, dear friends, do you think I should I refrain from commenting in that way when trying to offer encouragement or comfort, or is it helpful?

  3. Karen, @ 12:52. be careful, this IRS thing may be a scam.
Sounds like it. It may not be from the IRS at all. They need to show the evidence that she made $90k. Do not, under any circumstances, wire them money.

  4. By that, I mean that all correspondence should be by U.S. Postal service. This in case of legal ramifications. If it is a scam, they will be reluctant to tangle with official US agencies.
Take your time, ask for evidence of additional income, through USPS.

  5. You don’t have to rush anything the IRS sends you anyway. They don’t work that way. Did she do her own taxes or have someone else do them. Does she have copies of what was sent into the IRS? I, too, think scam. You can usually resolve things by filling out forms or you can make an appointment to bring in whatever you need to resolve it. Something not right here.

  6. Karen, FWIW, I think it is helpful to know if someone else has gone through or is going through a similar situation. I do not automatically think it is being self-centered in some way.

  7. Karen, I think we all do that. It can be “I had it worse,” but it can just be “I understand, at least partially.” If someone tells me their dad or their mom just died, for example, I might say, “I’ve been there”–not at all to say “Look at me,” but because they might expect someone my age not to have an understanding of the pain, and in fact I do.

Re the scam: It might actually be from the IRS, and might be because someone else used her Social Security number. But I would not call any phone numbers on the letter; I would contact the IRS directly, and that should help you better know whether it was from them. (I don’t think the IRS is very helpful in such cases, unfortunately, but they should at least be able to verify whether the letter was from them.)

  8. If there was a telephone number with the letter, it wasn’t because someone used her SSN, This reeks of scam to me. The advice others have given is good. Especially Kathleena’s advice not to rush anything.

  9. Thank you for the reassurances. 🙂

As for the IRS thing, it did come in the mail. So far, it doesn’t sound like a scam, but I will pass these warnings on to Emily.

  10. Karen, I only saw it as consolation for another in pain. We are given our suffering in part so we can comfort those in similar situations with the comfort from the Lord that He has given us. That is Biblical.

My brother has been going round and round and jumping through hoops for the IRS. I think the whole entity is being ran to be a scam these days billing people who may pay without question or taking time to find needed documentation. The government needs funding so it’s a good way to get money. If the government can keep printing funny money, why not print funny bills, too? I am sorry to say I don’t trust government any more lately than I trust the scammed on the street.
